The Three Putt Golf Review Methodology

How We Review Golf Clothing Brands

Every brand review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. You can read his full background on his author page.

Our conflict of interest, stated plainly

Three Putt is a golf clothing brand.

That means when we review competitors, there is an inherent conflict of interest you should know about. We don't try to hide it or minimise it. Instead, we think acknowledging it openly is the only honest way to publish reviews on a site in this position.

To manage it, every brand we review is assessed against the same fixed criteria, applied identically regardless of whether that brand competes directly with Three Putt.

We are willing to recommend competitors where they genuinely earn it, and we do. If a brand serves golfers better than we currently do in a given area, we say so. Our credibility as a journal depends on that honesty, and we take it seriously.

If you believe a review is unfair, inaccurate, or shows obvious bias, we want to know. You can contact us and we will revisit it.

What we assess

Every brand review covers the same six areas:

Style and design: How the clothing looks on and off the course, how it sits within the broader golf fashion market, and whether the aesthetic is consistent across the range.

Fit and sizing: How accurately the brand's sizing runs, how it accommodates different body types, and any recurring fit complaints flagged by real customers.

Materials and construction: Fabric quality, performance credentials (moisture management, stretch, breathability), and build durability based on community wear experience.

On-course performance: Whether the clothing functions as golf apparel rather than just lifestyle wear, covering freedom of movement, practicality across 18 holes, and suitability for UK conditions where relevant.

Pricing and value: What you actually get for the money, how the brand sits relative to comparable alternatives, and whether it represents fair value at full RRP and on sale.

Customer experience: Delivery, returns, sizing accuracy in practice, and post-purchase satisfaction based on aggregated review data.

How we research each brand

Our reviews are based on thorough desk research across multiple sources rather than hands-on testing of every individual item, although we do also do that whenever we can!

Where we have worn a brand's clothing personally, we say so in the review. Where we haven't, our assessment is built from the following:

  • Community review platforms including Trustpilot and Google Reviews, noting both overall scores and the specific recurring themes in positive and negative feedback. We never just report a score in isolation, we look at what people are actually saying.
  • Golf-specific forums and communities including Reddit's r/golf and r/streetwear and GolfWRX forum threads, where golfers discuss fit, durability, and real-world performance in detail.
  • Golf and fashion media coverage including Golf Monthly, National Club Golfer, and specialist golf fashion blogs where relevant product reviews exist.
  • Brand-owned content including sizing guides, technical fabric specifications, and product descriptions, which we treat as claims to be assessed against community feedback rather than facts to be reported uncritically.
  • Social media sentiment on Instagram and TikTok, particularly for newer or drop-driven brands where formal review platforms have limited coverage.

How we score

Each brand receives an overall score out of 10.

This is our honest assessment based on the six criteria above, weighted towards the type of golfer Three Putt exists for: someone who wants clothing that works on the course, looks good off it, and doesn't cost a fortune to achieve that.

We do not accept payment for reviews or allow brands to influence ratings. No brand is given sight of a review before publication.

We score each brand on a wide breadth of important areas, beyond just talking about price and style. We know that each brand has it's own unique selling point, and we want to make sure our reviews give them every chance to show themselves.

Updates and corrections

Golf brands change.

Pricing shifts, ownership changes, quality improves or drops.

We review and update articles periodically to keep them accurate. If you spot something that's out of date or factually wrong, contact us and we'll fix it. As soon as we know about it, we will be sure to amend it!
