Honest Stromberg Golf Clothing Review 2026 | Three Putt Golf

We test golf apparel the way we play. Hard, social, and honest.

The UK's biggest golf retailer has its own clothing label. The trousers are the reason to care.
How We Review Golf Clothing Brands
Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.
Verdict: 7.6/10
Stromberg is American Golf's in-house golf clothing brand, a British label sold almost entirely through the retailer's 80 or so stores and website. We liked the Weather Tech trousers (£59.99, often two for £90), the 20,000mm Bandit waterproof at £99.99, sizes up to 5XL and free returns at any American Golf store.
It also has more backing than its low profile suggests. DP World Tour winner Andy Sullivan signed a two-year deal to wear it in January 2026, and Stromberg is the official apparel partner of the Clutch Pro Tour.
Where it falls short for UK golfers: it's effectively a one-retailer brand, and the list prices exist mainly to be discounted. The polos and midlayers are forgettable, and returns by post are at your own cost.
This brand is best for club golfers who want weatherproof trousers and a proper waterproof on a budget, and who live near an American Golf store.
Key Features
- Signature tech/fabric: Three-ply Weather Tech trousers with a 5,000mm waterproof membrane, 20,000mm Bandit and HydroPro waterproofs, and a Teflon Zelan R3 stain finish on the Hampton trousers
- Design language: Classic British clubhouse kit: plain stretch trousers, stripes, small prints and The Open-branded capsules
- Fit profile: Regular, forgiving fits; tapered trousers in 30–46 waists with short, regular and long legs
- Range depth: Over 300 listings across men's, ladies' and junior clothing, waterproofs, gilets, shoes, bags and accessories
Pros
- Weather Tech trousers average 4.6/5 from more than 500 verified buyer reviews, at £59.99 or two for £90
- Real waterproof specs for the money: the Bandit jacket is rated 20,000mm with fully taped seams at £99.99
- Inclusive sizing: many men's lines run S–5XL, ladies' 8–20 and juniors 7–14 years
- Try on, collect and return for free at around 80 American Golf stores
Cons
- Effectively sold by one retailer, so you can't shop around for it
- List prices are reference points: the same polo can be £34.99 one week and £14.99 the next
- Polos and midlayers are competent but anonymous
- Postal returns are at your own cost, and in-store purchases get just 14 days
Stromberg Pricing
Stromberg is priced to undercut the big sportswear labels on American Golf's own rails. Prices are in pounds, standard UK delivery is £2.99 (free over £50), and the multi-buys are where the value really sits.
| Category | Entry | Typical | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Polos/Tees | £29.99 | £34.99 | £49.99 |
| Midlayers | £39.99 | £44.99–£59.99 | £64.99 |
| Trousers/Shorts | £34.99 | £49.99–£59.99 | £69.99 |
| Outerwear | £59.99 | £64.99–£79.99 | £99.99 |
| Caps & Hats | £17.99 | £19.99 | £33 |
List prices at American Golf: men's polos £29.99–£49.99 (Knebworth £34.99), ladies' polos £24.99–£34.99, junior polos £19.99–£24.99, midlayers £39.99–£64.99, gilets £39.99–£69.99, Hampton trousers £49.99, Weather Tech trousers £59.99, Bandit waterproof trousers £69.99, shorts £34.99–£44.99, quilted jackets £59.99–£79.99, Weather Tech waterproof jacket £79.99, Bandit jacket £99.99, ladies' HydroPro jacket £69.99, caps £17.99–£19.99, golf shoes £89.99–£129.99.
Comparison:
- Stromberg vs Three Putt: Similar spend, different job. Stromberg is plain, weatherproof club kit sold through a superstore. Three Putt is a UK brand with tees from £24.99, heavyweight hoodies under £52 and free UK delivery. Wear the trousers from one and the identity from the other.
- Stromberg vs Galvin Green: Both hang on American Golf's rails, at very different prices. Galvin Green's GORE-TEX jackets list at £249–£359; Stromberg's 20,000mm Bandit is £99.99. If you play through every winter, Galvin Green earns its premium. If you just get caught out now and then, Stromberg is the sensible buy.
- Stromberg vs adidas: The trouser fight. adidas's Ultimate365 Tapered trousers are £60 at American Golf. Stromberg's Hampton is £49.99, and its Weather Tech, with a waterproof membrane and thermal lining, is £59.99 and often two for £90.
- Stromberg vs Glenmuir: Two British clubhouse brands with very different price tags. Glenmuir, founded in Lanark in 1891, prices its men's golf shirts at £55–£95; Stromberg's polos list at £29.99–£49.99. Glenmuir is the heritage buy, Stromberg the budget one.
Promos/Outlet Notes: Something is always on offer. On 1 October 2026 the Deals of the Week included Hampton trousers at £29.99 (from £49.99) and the Knebworth polo at £14.99 (from £34.99). Multi-buys included Weather Tech trousers two for £90, Delta trousers two for £70, shorts two for £50, a ladies' HydroPro jacket and trousers for £99, and junior Bandit waterproofs for £89.
Verdict: 8.2/10
Hard to beat pound for pound, especially on trousers and waterproofs. Treat the list price as a ceiling rather than a guide: one verified buyer says "I wouldn't pay the full price of £60 each", and you rarely have to.
Stromberg Fit & Sizing (Usability)
Stromberg cuts for the club golfer rather than the tour physique, and its size run is wider than most budget brands manage.
Notes:
- Polos/Tees: Regular fit with stretch. The Knebworth (90% recycled polyester, 10% elastane) runs S–5XL.
- Midlayers: Regular fits. The Dartford midlayer runs S–5XL, and the newer quilted jackets and gilets reach 5XL too.
- Trousers/Shorts: The Hampton and Weather Tech trousers are tapered, in 30–46 waists with short, regular and long legs. One Hampton buyer found even the short leg "still really long".
- Outerwear: The Weather Tech and Bandit jackets run S–5XL. One reviewer found the Weather Tech sleeves an inch long, and a ladies' HydroPro buyer went up a size.
- Heat/Humidity: Polos are moisture-wicking with UPF 50+. The Weather Tech trousers have a thermal inner layer, so they're autumn-to-spring kit, not July wear.
- Size Charts: Per-product size guides on American Golf, with in-store try-on as the real safety net.
Accessibility/Range:
- Men's S–5XL on many lines, though some stop at 3XL or 4XL.
- Ladies' sizes 8–20 across polos, trousers, skorts, gilets and waterproofs (a few lines stop at 18).
- Juniors 7–14 years, including polos, midlayers and Bandit waterproofs.
Verdict: 7.9/10
A genuinely wide size run, three leg lengths and around 80 stores to try things on. Reviews suggest legs and sleeves run a touch long, so check the guide before ordering online.
Stromberg Core Product Categories
Trousers & Shorts
The reason Stromberg matters. The Weather Tech Stretch trouser (£59.99) uses a three-ply fabric: a water-resistant outer, a breathable 5,000mm waterproof membrane and a thermal inner layer. It averages 4.6/5 from more than 500 verified reviews, and Today's Golfer calls it "A great value alternative to waterproof over-trouser." The Hampton (£49.99, 98% polyester, 2% elastane) adds a stain-resistant Teflon Zelan R3 finish and a rubber-lined waistband to keep your shirt tucked. It scores 4.4/5 from more than 190 reviews. Shorts run £34.99–£44.99, including the Lee Sharpe Banter shorts.
Verdict: 8.4/10

Polos
Around 30 men's styles at £29.99–£49.99, from plain Knebworth stretch polos to stripes, florals and a digital camo print. The Knebworth is typical: 90% recycled polyester, 10% elastane, moisture-wicking and UPF 50+, at £34.99 list and often half that. Buyers rate it 4.8/5, though from just 16 reviews. Perfectly good, rarely memorable.
Verdict: 7.3/10

Midlayers & Gilets
Half-zips and midlayers at £39.99–£64.99 (the textured Kibworth, the Falmouth and the Patron WX hybrid) and quilted gilets at £39.99–£69.99. Most carry a DWR finish for light rain, and the Kibworth scores 4.9/5 from 15 buyers. Sensible layering at fair prices, but nothing that turns heads.
Verdict: 7.5/10

Waterproofs & Jackets
The pleasant surprise. The Bandit jacket (£99.99) and ladies' HydroPro (£69.99) are rated 20,000mm waterproof and 10,000g/m² breathable, with fully taped seams. Those are numbers you'd usually pay more for. The cheaper Weather Tech jacket (£79.99) is rated 5,000mm, better for showers than all-day rain. Buyers still rate it 4.7/5 from 245 reviews, one summing it up as "It rained, I played golf, I stayed dry." Quilted jackets run £59.99–£79.99.
Verdict: 7.8/10
The Open & Accessories
Stromberg designs the apparel for American Golf's officially licensed The Open range, a five-year R&A partnership that launched in 2022. Today that means "Open" versions of the Knebworth, Alston and Drift polos (£29.99–£34.99), plus a May 2026 drop of The Open headcovers (£34.99–£39.99), towels and flasks. Elsewhere: caps at £17.99–£19.99, a £33 rain bucket hat, sock packs from £7.99 and golf shoes at £89.99–£129.99.
Verdict: 7.2/10
Stromberg Materials & Tech (Construction, Sustainability)
Stromberg publishes more tech detail than its prices suggest: waterproof ratings, fabric blends and finishes sit on every product page. What it doesn't publish is where or how anything is made.
Backend (manufacturing & standards):
- Owned by American Golf Brands since September 2019; American Golf itself was bought by Peter Jones's investment group in February 2026.
- Country of manufacture isn't stated on product pages.
- Recycled content is limited to specific lines, such as the Knebworth polo's polyester made from recycled plastic bottles.
- We couldn't find any third-party sustainability certifications listed.
Application (on-garment features):
- Waterproofs: Bandit and HydroPro rated 20,000mm/10,000g/m², with fully taped seams, a DWR finish and water-resistant zips.
- Weather Tech: 5,000mm/5,000g/m² jackets with taped seams; trousers in a three-ply 96% polyester, 4% spandex fabric with a thermal inner layer.
- Hampton trousers: 98% polyester, 2% elastane, quick dry, non-iron, with a Teflon Zelan R3 water- and stain-repellent finish.
- Polos: Stretch, moisture-wicking fabric with UPF 50+ on lines such as the Knebworth.
- Midlayers and quilted jackets: DWR finishes; the Marsden mixes insulated quilting with 88% polyester, 12% elastane stretch panels.
Verdict: 7.2/10
Honest, specific specs at budget prices, and a genuinely capable 20,000mm waterproof. The silence on manufacturing and sustainability keeps it out of the eights.
Stromberg Customer Support
Support is American Golf's, and the store network is the brand's quiet advantage. Around 80 shops across the UK and Ireland let you try on, collect and return in person, which no online-only brand can match.
Channels & Hours
- Customer services by phone on 01925 939999, plus an online help centre and contact form.
- An aftersales email (aftersales@americangolf.co.uk) and in-store staff at around 80 stores.
- Free click and collect, with two-hour pick-up where your chosen store has stock.
Policies
- Online orders (including click and collect): 30 days from receipt for a full refund, unused with labels attached.
- Store purchases: 14 days, back to a store with proof of purchase.
- Returns in store are free. Postal returns to Manchester are at your own cost unless the item is faulty, and Klarna orders must go back by post.
- Christmas cover: anything bought from 6 October to 24 December 2026 can be exchanged until 31 January 2027.
Self-Serve
- Standard UK delivery is £2.99 (free over £50) in 3–5 working days; next working day is £4.99 (free over £100); Saturday £6.99; Northern Ireland £7.99.
- Per-product size guides, a store finder and in-store stock collection.
- Free AG Club membership unlocks the price promise and member offers.
Verdict: 7.9/10
Free in-store returns and a £50 free-delivery threshold beat most brands at this price. The 14-day window on store purchases and paid postal returns are the catches.
What Are Stromberg's Review Ratings from Review Sites?
(As of October 2026)
- Trustpilot: Stromberg Golf has its own profile, rated 1.3 ("Bad") from 81 reviews in October 2026. American Golf holds a 4.7 TrustScore from more than 183,000 reviews, but that rates the retailer's service, not the clothing.
- On-site (verified buyers): Weather Tech trousers 4.6/5 (500+ reviews), Weather Tech jacket 4.7/5 (245), Hampton trousers 4.4/5 (190+) and Bandit jacket 4.7/5 (28). The common gripe is legs and sleeves running a little long.
- Media: Today's Golfer named the Weather Tech its best value all-weather trouser in March 2026. Its Stromberg buying guide says the brand "is particularly renowned for its golf trousers and shorts."
- Tour and social: Andy Sullivan joined Team Stromberg on a two-year deal in January 2026. Stromberg has been the Clutch Pro Tour's official apparel partner since 2025, and its Instagram (@stromberg_golf) has about 3,500 followers.
Synthesis:
The people who buy Stromberg rate it highly, and in volume: more than 1,000 reviews across four core products, mostly four and five stars. The wider golf world barely talks about it, which fits a house brand whose own web address, stromberg.co.uk, is a parked page rather than a shop.
Is Stromberg a Good Golf Brand?
Yes, Stromberg is a good value golf brand, and better than its low profile suggests. The Weather Tech trousers and Bandit waterproof deliver real performance for under £100, the size run is generous, and free in-store returns take most of the risk out of buying. The trade-offs are single-retailer dependence, list prices that mean little, and tops with no personality. If you want golf clothing with some identity to wear with those trousers, Three Putt is a UK brand with golf tees from £24.99, heavyweight hoodies and free UK delivery. For more British labels, see our guide to UK golf brands.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stromberg
Who owns Stromberg golf clothing?
American Golf bought Stromberg in September 2019 and runs it through its American Golf Brands business. American Golf itself changed hands in February 2026, when Dragons' Den investor Peter Jones and his investment group bought it from private equity firm Endless. American Golf dates the brand back to 1977.
Where can I buy Stromberg in the UK?
Through American Golf: its website, its personalisation site myamericangolf and around 80 stores across the UK and Ireland. American Golf describes Stromberg as sold exclusively through its own channels. You won't find it at Scottsdale Golf, Function18, Clubhouse Golf or GolfOnline, though a few small independents still carry odd lines. The stromberg.co.uk domain is a parked page, not a shop.
Are Stromberg golf trousers any good?
Yes, they're the brand's best product. The Weather Tech Stretch trousers (£59.99, often two for £90) combine a 5,000mm waterproof membrane with a thermal lining and average 4.6/5 from more than 500 verified reviews. Today's Golfer named them its best value all-weather trouser. The Hampton (£49.99) is the lighter everyday option, with a stain-resistant finish.
Are Stromberg waterproofs actually waterproof?
The better ones are. The Bandit jacket (£99.99) and ladies' HydroPro jacket (£69.99) are rated 20,000mm waterproof with 10,000g/m² breathability and fully taped seams, solid numbers for under £100. The Weather Tech jacket (£79.99) is rated 5,000mm, so it suits showers more than all-day rain. Buyers still rate the Weather Tech 4.7/5 from 245 reviews.
How does Stromberg sizing run?
Regular and forgiving. Many men's lines run S–5XL, trousers come in 30–46 waists with short, regular and long legs, ladies' sizes run 8–20 and juniors 7–14 years. Reviews suggest legs and sleeves run slightly long, so check each product's size guide or try on in store.
What is Stromberg's returns policy?
It follows American Golf's policy. Online orders get 30 days from receipt for a full refund, if unused with labels attached; store purchases get 14 days. Returning in store is free, while posting back to Manchester is at your own cost unless the item is faulty. Christmas purchases from 6 October 2026 can be exchanged until 31 January 2027.
Does American Golf charge for UK delivery?
Standard delivery costs £2.99 and is free on orders over £50, arriving in 3–5 working days. Next working day delivery is £4.99, free over £100, if you order by 5pm on a weekday. Click and collect is free, with two-hour pick-up where your store has stock.
Who wears Stromberg on tour?
Andy Sullivan, a multiple DP World Tour winner, signed a two-year deal in January 2026 to wear Stromberg exclusively at tournaments. Stromberg's marketing manager said Sullivan represents "performance, commitment and personality on the course." The brand is also the official apparel partner of the Clutch Pro Tour, the UK development tour, and backed an event named The Stromberg Masters.
Is Stromberg made in the UK?
Stromberg is a British brand, but American Golf doesn't state the country of manufacture on its product pages, so don't assume it's UK-made. What the pages do give is detailed fabric information, such as the Knebworth polo's 90% recycled polyester and the Bandit jacket's 20,000mm waterproof rating.
