Abacus vs Three Putt: Award-Winning Rain Gear or UK Golf Streetwear

Updated on: October 2, 2026 • ~10 min read

Author: Graeme

We test golf apparel the way we play. Hard, social, and honest.

A Swedish rainwear specialist with a joint-winning jacket in MyGolfSpy's 2026 rain test, against a Leeds streetwear label that sells four cotton garments. They do different jobs, and plenty of golfers will want both.

How We Review Golf Clothing Brands

Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.

Verdict and Quick Pick

Abacus is a family-owned Swedish golf brand best known for rainwear. Its £269.99 Pitch 37.5 jacket was joint Best Overall in MyGolfSpy's 2026 rain gear test. Three Putt is a Leeds golf streetwear brand selling tees, long-sleeves, sweatshirts and hoodies from £23.99. Abacus keeps you dry on the course; Three Putt dresses everything around it.

Best for wet rounds and British winters: Abacus. Waterproofs with published ratings, from £129 to £269.99 at UK golf shops, plus wind layers, base layers and polos. You buy it from a UK stockist, because the brand's own store doesn't ship here.

Best for golf style off the course: Three Putt. Heavyweight tees and hoodies with golf graphics, from £23.99 to £54.99 with free UK delivery. It is casual cotton wear, not weatherproof kit.

Brand Overview

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt is a UK golf streetwear brand based in Leeds. The range is deliberately narrow: tees, long-sleeve tees, sweatshirts and hoodies.

Each comes in six graphic designs: Contours, Happy Place, Tee Time, Reckless Driving, The Scenic Route and Three on the Green. The idea is golf culture you can wear anywhere, not a full on-course wardrobe.

That brings honest limits. There are no polos, trousers, shorts, outerwear, waterproofs or caps, and no women's-specific line. If your club has a collared-shirt dress code, you will need a polo from elsewhere.

Abacus

Abacus is a family-owned Swedish company, founded in 1991 by Sven-Olof Karlsson and Ingrid Lindgren Wachtmeister and based near Lund. The idea goes back to 1977, when Karlsson played 153 holes of golf in a day wearing jeans and a cotton polo.

Rainwear is the heart of the brand. The range climbs in three steps: Links, Bounce and the flagship Pitch 37.5. MyGolfSpy's 2026 rain gear test scored the Pitch 9.8, joint Best Overall with KJUS, and made the Bounce waterproof hoodie its Staff Pick.

It was also an official licensee of the 2026 Solheim Cup, and is one for the 2027 Ryder Cup.

For British golfers, the catch is access. The brand's own store ships only within Sweden and Denmark, and a UK visitor sees euro prices with every size unavailable. UK golf shops fill the gap. Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline carry the widest ranges, in pounds and with no import charges, though both lean heavily to rainwear. American Golf, Scottsdale Golf and Function18 didn't list the brand in early October 2026.

Key Features and Fabrics

Three Putt Golf

  • Tees: 100% cotton, 260gsm, relaxed fit, S–3XL, five colourways per design.
  • Long-sleeve tees: 280gsm, 85% cotton / 15% polyester, loose drop-shoulder fit, S–2XL.
  • Sweatshirts: 400gsm cotton crewneck, regular fit, S–2XL.
  • Hoodies: 430gsm, 56% cotton / 44% polyester, oversized drop-shoulder fit, S–2XL, four colourways per design.

These are heavyweight casual garments, not technical performance wear. Do not expect moisture-wicking, stretch fabric or weather protection.

Abacus

  • Pitch 37.5: the flagship jacket is rated 20,000mm waterproof and 50,000g/m²/24h breathable. It has four-way stretch, a rubber grip at the waist and weighs only 260g. Abacus says its licensed 37.5 Technology helps regulate your body temperature.
  • Bounce: rated 15,000mm and 15,000g, with four-way stretch. It comes as a full-zip jacket, a half-zip and the hooded waterproof that MyGolfSpy picked out.
  • Links: the entry tier, rated 10,000mm and 10,000g. It uses a woven fabric with two-way stretch, a mesh lining and a "generous" fit for layering.
  • Layers and polos: Portrush and Dornoch hybrid wind jackets, Aloha base layers with UPF 50, and DryCool wicking polos, many in recycled polyester.

Price Comparison

Abacus prices are full UK stockist prices at Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline in October 2026. The two shops can differ by a few pounds, and both discount Abacus regularly. The brand's own site shows a UK visitor €349.90 for the Pitch (about £299 at €1.17 to the pound), but won't deliver here.

Price Verdict

These brands barely overlap on price because they barely overlap on product. A Three Putt hoodie, sweatshirt and tee together cost less than half of one Pitch jacket. Among serious rain gear, though, Abacus is good value. The Pitch costs about £90 less than Galvin Green's £359 Arlo, and outscored it 9.8 to 9.4 in MyGolfSpy's 2026 test. For casual wear, Three Putt is far cheaper; for rain protection, Abacus is the better buy.

Fit and Sizing

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt sizes run S–3XL on tees and S–2XL on everything else. Tees have a relaxed fit, long-sleeves a loose drop shoulder, and sweatshirts a regular fit. Hoodies are oversized with a drop shoulder, so size down if you want a closer look.

Abacus

Abacus states the fit on every product, which takes some guesswork out of buying. Most pieces are regular. The Pitch is "regular/tight" to keep fabric out of the swing, the Bounce hoodie "regular/sporty" and the Links "generous" for layering.

Men's sizes run S–3XL as standard, with XS and 4XL–5XL on selected styles, including the Pitch and Links jackets. Women's run XS–2XL, with 3XL on some pieces, and the junior range runs 130–170cm. Men's trousers come in 28–42 inch waists with 30–36 inch legs. The brand's size guide has separate men's and women's charts for tops, legwear and rainwear.

The catch is UK availability. Stockists carry only part of that size run, and GolfOnline listed several Abacus lines in just two or three sizes in October 2026. For a reference point, Golf Monthly's 6ft 1in, slim-build tester found a medium Bounce "a perfect fit".

Fit Verdict

Abacus wins on golf-specific cut and stretch, women's and junior ranges, and sizes up to 5XL on key styles. Three Putt's cuts are roomier and simpler, from relaxed tees to oversized hoodies. If you are between sizes on the trim Pitch, try it on over your usual midlayer before you buy.

Style and Versatility

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt is golf streetwear: golf-themed graphics on heavyweight fabric, cut in relaxed and oversized shapes. A hoodie works on a casual range session, at the pub after a round or as a weekend layer. It is not the right shirt for a members' competition at a traditional club, so check your golf dress code first.

Abacus

Abacus looks like clean Scandinavian performance wear: navy, black and muted seasonal colours. Many pieces are named after famous courses, such as Muirfield, Portrush, Dornoch and Lahinch. The autumn 2026 range added a course-green Bounce waterproof hoodie.

Off the course, that Bounce hoodie is the most casual piece. Most of the range is built for the round, though, and looks like golf kit.

Style Verdict

Abacus dresses the round, especially when the weather turns. Three Putt dresses everything around it, from the car park to the bar. The two don't compete for the same hanger: wear ours underneath and theirs over the top.

Quality, Durability and Sustainability

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt's quality story is weight. Tees are 260gsm cotton, sweatshirts are 400gsm and hoodies are 430gsm. On sustainability, Three Putt makes no recycled-content or eco claims. Its tees are 100% cotton.

Abacus

The independent record is strong. The Pitch was joint Best Overall in MyGolfSpy's rain gear tests in both 2025 and 2026. Golf Monthly called the Bounce jacket "very impressive in all departments".

Customer reviews are scarce, though. Trustpilot holds just two, and one of them is a complaint about a jacket letting water in.

The long-term promise is thinner than the test scores. Abacus states no long-term waterproof guarantee. Faults go through a complaints process: email a photo, and Abacus will repair or replace the product. Galvin Green, by contrast, guarantees its waterproof fabric with no time limit.

On sustainability, the rain range is PFC-free, and many polos and wind layers use recycled polyester. We found no third-party certification such as bluesign, and product pages don't say where garments are made.

Quality Verdict

Abacus wins on technical construction and tested rain performance, and nothing in the Three Putt range is built for weather. Three Putt wins on heavyweight cotton at a low price. If a lifetime waterproof promise matters more to you than test scores, look beyond Abacus.

Customer Support and Returns

Three Putt Golf

Delivery is free across the UK. Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery. Email support@threeputtgolfclothing.co.uk first, and note that you pay the return postage. Support is by email.

Abacus

UK buyers deal with the shop they bought from, so delivery and returns follow that retailer's terms. In October 2026, they looked like this:

  • Clubhouse Golf: free delivery to the UK mainland over £30. Returns within 30 days of receipt for a refund, with a £2.99 drop-off service. It offers no exchanges, so a new size means a new order.
  • GolfOnline: delivery rates are worked out at checkout, and click and collect is free. Returns are accepted within 60 days of the first delivery attempt, or 30 days on clearance items, at your own cost.

Abacus itself answers email at webshop@abacussportswear.com and says it usually replies within 24 hours. Its phone line keeps Swedish office hours on weekdays, an hour ahead of the UK. Because both stockists sell in pounds, there are no import charges to pay on delivery.

Support Verdict

Buying Abacus from a UK stockist gets you a longer return window than Three Putt: 30 days at Clubhouse Golf or 60 at GolfOnline, against 14. Three Putt is simpler, with one brand, free UK delivery and email support. With Abacus, aftercare runs through a retailer.

Our Pick

Buy Abacus if you play through British autumns and winters and want proven rain protection without paying Gore-Tex prices. The £269.99 Pitch 37.5 tied with KJUS at the top of MyGolfSpy's 2026 test, and the Bounce and Links tiers cost less. Buy it from a UK stockist and try the fit first, and remember there is no long-term waterproof guarantee.

Buy Three Putt for golf style off the course and on relaxed dry days, priced in pounds with free UK delivery. Heavyweight tees from £23.99 and hoodies under £52 cover the walk to the first tee and the pub after. A sweatshirt or long-sleeve tee rounds it out. You will still need a collared polo from elsewhere if your club requires one.

Plenty of golfers will own both. For more ways to stay dry, see our guide to the best waterproof golf clothing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Three Putt vs Abacus

Is Three Putt a good alternative to Abacus?

For off-course style, yes, but not for rain. Three Putt sells heavyweight tees, long-sleeves, sweatshirts and hoodies from £23.99 with free UK delivery. The range has no waterproofs, outerwear, polos or trousers, so it can't replace an Abacus rain jacket. Wear it under an Abacus shell, not instead of one.

Does Abacus ship to the UK?

Not directly. The brand's own store ships only within Sweden and Denmark, and a UK visitor sees euro prices with every size unavailable. UK golfers buy from stockists such as Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline instead. That means paying in pounds, with no import charges, under the shop's own delivery and returns terms.

Which is better on the course?

Abacus, clearly, and above all in the rain. The Pitch 37.5 is rated 20,000mm waterproof with 50,000g breathability and four-way stretch, and it tied for Best Overall in MyGolfSpy's 2026 test. Abacus also sells polos, wind layers and trousers. Three Putt's cotton tees and hoodies suit a relaxed round on a dry day, but offer no weather protection.

Which is better value?

It depends on the job. For rain gear, Abacus: the £269.99 Pitch costs about £90 less than Galvin Green's £359 Arlo and outscored it in MyGolfSpy's 2026 test, and the Links starts at £129. For everyday golf style, Three Putt: its whole range sits between £23.99 and £54.99, with free UK delivery.

Is Three Putt good quality?

Three Putt's quality case rests on fabric weight. Tees are 260gsm 100% cotton, sweatshirts are 400gsm cotton and hoodies are 430gsm cotton/polyester. That is substantial for casual wear at £23.99–£54.99. It is not technical kit, though: there is no wicking, stretch or weather protection, which is where Abacus earns its price.

How do the fits differ?

Abacus labels the fit on every product: mostly regular, with the Pitch "regular/tight" and the Links "generous". Men's sizes run S–3XL, with XS and up to 5XL on selected styles, plus women's and junior ranges. Three Putt's cuts are roomier, from relaxed tees to oversized hoodies, in S–3XL for tees and S–2XL for the rest.

Are Abacus and Three Putt sustainable?

Abacus has more to show. Its rain range is PFC-free, and many polos and wind layers use recycled polyester. It names no third-party certification such as bluesign, and its product pages don't say where garments are made. Three Putt makes no recycled-content or eco claims. Its tees are 100% cotton.

Does Abacus have a waterproof guarantee?

Abacus states no long-term waterproof guarantee. Faults go through a complaints process: email a photo, and Abacus will repair or replace the product. UK buyers start with the stockist they bought from. If a long guarantee matters most, Galvin Green guarantees its waterproof fabric with no time limit, at a higher price.
