Ping vs Three Putt: Club Waterproofs and Polos or Off-Course Streetwear

Updated on: October 2, 2026 • ~10 min read

Author: Graeme

We test golf apparel the way we play. Hard, social, and honest.

The club maker's British clothing range, built for wind, rain and dress codes, against a Leeds streetwear label that makes no rainwear at all. One dresses you for the round, the other for everything around it.

How We Review Golf Clothing Brands

Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.

Verdict and Quick Pick

Ping's UK clothing comes from PING Europe in Gainsborough: polos from £45, AquaDrive waterproofs from £150 and trousers in four cuts, sold direct in pounds. Three Putt is a Leeds golf streetwear brand selling heavyweight tees and hoodies from £23.99. Choose Ping for the round itself and Three Putt for off the course.

Best for off-course golf style under £52: Three Putt. Golf-graphic tees from £23.99 and 430gsm hoodies from £45.99, with free UK delivery. It's casual cotton clothing, so it won't keep the rain off or get you past a collared-shirt rule.

Best for wet rounds and club dress codes: Ping. Seam-sealed AquaDrive waterproofs, £45–£65 polos and trousers in 30–44 waists cover the whole round. AquaDrive Pro and SensorDry 2.5 pieces carry a five-year limited warranty.

Brand Overview

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt is a UK golf streetwear brand based in Leeds. It sells four garments: tees, long-sleeve tees, sweatshirts and hoodies.

Each comes in six graphic designs: Contours, Happy Place, Tee Time, Reckless Driving, The Scenic Route and Three on the Green. The aim is golf culture you can wear anywhere, rather than a full on-course wardrobe.

That focus brings honest limits. The range has no polos, trousers, shorts, outerwear, waterproofs or caps, and no women's-specific line. If your club has a collared-shirt dress code, you will need a polo from elsewhere. And nothing in the range will keep you dry.

Ping

PING is a family-owned company, founded in 1959 by Karsten and Louise Solheim and based in Phoenix, Arizona. John K. Solheim became its third CEO in April 2022.

In the UK, the clothing is run by PING Europe in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, which employs more than 250 people and also assembles and distributes PING clubs. It sells direct on pingeurope.com in pounds, and through UK golf shops including American Golf, Function18, Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline. PING also makes Team Europe's 2026 Solheim Cup kit.

The European range covers polos, base layers, fleeces, knitwear, hybrid jackets, waterproofs, trousers, shorts and caps. There's a full women's line, plus junior versions of the Lindum polo and Ramsey mid-layer for ages 7–12. PING's US store sells a much smaller apparel range, so American reviews of Ping clothing rarely describe what a UK buyer gets.

Key Features and Fabrics

Three Putt Golf

  • Tees: 100% cotton, 260gsm, relaxed fit, S–3XL, five colourways per design.
  • Long-sleeve tees: 280gsm, 85% cotton / 15% polyester, loose drop-shoulder fit, S–2XL.
  • Sweatshirts: 400gsm cotton crewneck, regular fit, S–2XL.
  • Hoodies: 430gsm, 56% cotton / 44% polyester, oversized drop-shoulder fit, S–2XL, four colourways per design.

These are heavyweight casual garments, not technical performance wear. They make no claims to moisture-wicking, stretch fabric or weather protection.

Ping

  • SensorCool polos: moisture-moving, quick-dry stretch polyester. The £45 Lindum is 100% recycled polyester, with UPF 40+ and a rib collar.
  • SensorWarm layers: thermal, wind-resistant mid-layers and knitwear. The £100 Barnaby quarter-zip is 50% merino, with quilted wadding at the collar and shoulders.
  • SensorDry waterproofs: fully seam-sealed. The £150 AquaDrive jacket is a 2.5-layer stretch shell, and the £185 Impervious moves to a quiet 3-layer knit.
  • AquaDrive Pro: the £300 flagship zones 3-layer ripstop with knit stretch panels. PING claims 30,000mm waterproofing and 40,000 g/m² breathability, and it was designed and tested at the PING Performance Research Centre at Loughborough University.
  • Trousers: mechanical-stretch polyester with PING Eye gripper tape inside the waistband. PING's Tekfit waistband tech adds up to two inches of stretch.

The ranges barely overlap. Ping's nearest thing to a Three Putt hoodie is a technical fleece, such as the £60 Ramsey half-zip (100% polyester) or the £75 Saul hooded fleece. Three Putt has nothing built for rain, sweat or a strict dress code.

Ping prices are full list prices on pingeurope.com in October 2026, in pounds with VAT included. Stockists such as American Golf and Function18 often sell below PING's list prices, so it pays to compare before buying direct.

At the cheap end, delivery changes the sums. A single £45 Lindum polo costs £50 delivered from pingeurope.com, because free delivery only starts above £50. A Three Putt tee and hoodie together cost £69.98–£81.98 delivered, against £105 for a Lindum polo and a Ramsey half-zip.

Price Verdict

Three Putt is cheaper for everyday clothes: a tee costs about half a Ping polo. They aren't substitutes, though. Cotton won't keep the rain out, and a graphic tee won't pass a dress code. Ping's polos are fair mid-market money; its waterproofs and knitwear cost specialist money.

Fit and Sizing

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt tees run S–3XL, and the long-sleeves, sweatshirts and hoodies run S–2XL. Tees have a relaxed fit, long-sleeves a loose drop shoulder and sweatshirts a regular fit. Hoodies are oversized with a drop shoulder, so expect them to fit big.

Ping

Ping covers more body shapes than most golf brands. The Lindum polo and Ramsey half-zip run XS–3XL, and most other men's tops run S–3XL, in regular club fits. AquaDrive waterproofs come in S–3XL.

Trousers are the standout. There are four named cuts: Sherwell regular, Locke slim, Hendry tapered and PING Tour tapered. Waists run 30–44, with up to four leg lengths depending on the style.

Women's polos and waterproofs run in sizes 6–20, and the junior Lindum and Ramsey cover ages 7–12. PING's size guide keeps it simple: if you're between sizes, go up for a relaxed fit or down for a slimmer look. Nothing goes beyond 3XL.

Fit Verdict

Ping wins on range: an XS on core styles, four trouser cuts, a choice of leg lengths, and women's and junior sizing. Three Putt is simpler, with tees up to 3XL and a small in every garment. Choose Three Putt if you like a looser streetwear cut.

Style and Versatility

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt is golf streetwear: graphic designs on heavyweight cotton, in relaxed and oversized shapes. A tee or hoodie suits a casual range session, the pub after a round or a weekend away. It isn't the top for a members' competition, and it is no use in a downpour.

Ping

Ping's look is clean club golfwear: jacquards, small prints, colour blocks and the PING Eye logo on the shoulder. It rarely strays from safe territory, which is exactly why it works at a traditional club.

A Ping polo meets a collared-shirt rule where a graphic tee won't, so check your club's golf dress code. Off the course, a Ramsey half-zip or a Barnaby sweater works with chinos.

Style Verdict

Three Putt has far more personality off the course. Ping is the safer, smarter choice for the round, and it gets you through any dress code.

Quality, Durability and Sustainability

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt's quality story is weight: 260gsm cotton tees, 280gsm long-sleeves, 400gsm sweatshirts and 430gsm hoodies. On sustainability, Three Putt makes no recycled-content or eco claims. Its tees are 100% cotton.

Ping

Ping's quality case is named fabric tech with published specs. The AquaDrive Pro claims 30,000mm waterproofing, and the standard AquaDrive has a strong press record. Golf Monthly called it "a premium offering that sits in the very top tier".

AquaDrive Pro and SensorDry 2.5 waterproofs carry a five-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, whether bought direct or from an authorised stockist. It doesn't cover normal wear and tear.

Customer feedback is thin, though. Ping's product pages carry no customer reviews, and the pingeurope.com Trustpilot profile had just three reviews in October 2026.

Sustainability is handled item by item. The Lindum polo is 100% recycled polyester, and PING's technology page names partly plant-based insulation and PrimaLoft fills. There's no wider programme, and the product pages don't state a country of manufacture.

Quality Verdict

Ping wins on technical construction, with seam-sealed waterproofs and a five-year warranty on the best pieces. Three Putt wins on heavyweight cotton at a low price. On sustainability, Ping at least has a recycled-polyester polo to point to.

Customer Support and Returns

Three Putt Golf

Delivery is free across the UK. Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery. Email support@threeputtgolfclothing.co.uk first, and note that you pay the return postage. Support is by email.

Ping

Buying direct, you deal with PING Europe in Gainsborough. Its phone line runs Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, alongside email at customercare@pingeurope.com and a contact form.

UK delivery is £5, or free over £50, and takes 3–5 working days. Deliveries run Monday to Friday only, may need a signature and can't go to PO Box or BFPO addresses. Prices include VAT and orders come from a UK company, so there are no customs charges.

The returns policy gives you 14 days from receipt. Items must be in resalable condition, with tags attached and in the original packaging. You pay the postage back to Gainsborough. Neither the returns page nor the terms mention exchanges. Anything bought from a stockist goes back under that retailer's own policy.

Support Verdict

Returns are close to identical: 14 days at both, with the postage at your cost. Ping offers more ways to get help, including a weekday phone line, and a real warranty on its best waterproofs. Three Putt's edge is free delivery on every order, where a single Ping polo pays £5.

Our Pick

Buy Ping if you want to stay dry and look the part at a traditional club. The £150 AquaDrive jacket and £100 over trousers make a proper rain suit and the £45 Lindum handles a collared-shirt rule. Shop pingeurope.com or a stockist, compare prices first, and be sure of your size, because returns are 14 days at your own cost.

Buy Three Putt if you want golf style for everything else. Heavyweight tees from £23.99, sweatshirts and hoodies under £52 cover a dry round at a relaxed club and the drink afterwards, with free UK delivery. Three Putt makes no rainwear, and you will still need a collared polo from elsewhere if your club requires one.

Plenty of golfers could own both: an AquaDrive in the bag for the showers, and a Three Putt hoodie for the drive home. For more rain-first options, see our guide to the best waterproof golf clothing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Three Putt vs Ping

Is Three Putt a good alternative to Ping?

Only for part of the wardrobe. Ping makes on-course kit: polos, trousers, layers and AquaDrive waterproofs. Three Putt makes heavyweight cotton tees, long-sleeves, sweatshirts and hoodies with golf graphics, and nothing for rain or a strict dress code. It's an alternative for what you wear off the course or on dry, casual rounds, from £23.99 with free UK delivery.

Which is better on the course?

Ping, clearly. Its SensorCool polos are moisture-moving and quick-drying, its trousers come in four cuts, and its SensorDry waterproofs are fully seam-sealed, with the AquaDrive Pro claiming 30,000mm. Three Putt's cotton tees and hoodies suit a dry, relaxed round at an easy-going club. If your club needs a collared shirt, buy a polo from Ping or another golf brand.

Is Three Putt good quality?

For what it is, yes. The quality story is weight: 260gsm 100% cotton tees, 280gsm long-sleeves, 400gsm sweatshirts and 430gsm hoodies. They are casual garments, not technical wear, with no claims to moisture-wicking, stretch or weather protection. Judge them against other streetwear, not Ping's waterproofs.

How do the fits differ?

Ping uses regular club fits, with core styles in XS–3XL and most in S–3XL. Its trousers come in four named cuts with 30–44 waists, and women's sizes run 6–20. Three Putt is cut for streetwear: relaxed tees in S–3XL, loose drop-shoulder long-sleeves, regular-fit sweatshirts and oversized drop-shoulder hoodies, all in S–2XL. Expect the hoodies to fit big.

Which is better off the course?

Three Putt. Its six graphic designs on heavyweight cotton are made for the car park, the bar and the weekend. Ping's clean club look, with jacquards, small prints and the PING Eye logo, works with chinos but rarely turns a head. A Ramsey half-zip is a smart, practical layer; a Three Putt hoodie has far more personality.

Which is better value?

It depends on the job. For everyday clothes, Three Putt is cheaper: tees from £23.99 against £45 for Ping's Lindum polo, with free UK delivery on every order. For staying dry, Ping's £150 AquaDrive jacket is a seam-sealed waterproof, and Three Putt has nothing comparable. Stockists such as American Golf and Function18 often sell Ping below its list prices.

Are Ping and Three Putt sustainable?

Neither runs a sustainability programme. Ping works item by item: the Lindum polo is 100% recycled polyester, and PING names partly plant-based insulation and PrimaLoft fills. It doesn't state a country of manufacture on its product pages. Three Putt makes no recycled-content or eco claims; its tees are 100% cotton.

Which ships and returns better in the UK?

Three Putt delivers free on every UK order. Ping charges £5 on orders up to £50 and takes 3–5 working days, weekdays only. Returns are close: both give 14 days, and at both you pay the return postage. Ping needs tags on and the original packaging, but adds a weekday phone line and a five-year limited warranty on AquaDrive Pro and SensorDry 2.5 waterproofs.
