Honest Abacus Golf Clothing Review 2026 | Three Putt Golf

We test golf apparel the way we play. Hard, social, and honest.

Award-winning Swedish waterproofs for less than the Gore-Tex big names. You just have to buy them from a UK shop.
How We Review Golf Clothing Brands
Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.
Verdict: 8.1/10
Abacus is a family-owned Swedish golf apparel brand, founded in 1991 and best known for rainwear. We liked the Pitch 37.5 jacket, joint Best Overall in MyGolfSpy's 2026 rain gear test. We also liked the hoodie-shaped Bounce waterproof, PFC-free rain fabrics and UK prices that undercut Galvin Green and KJUS.
The awards hold up: MyGolfSpy scored the Pitch 9.8, level with KJUS and ahead of Galvin Green's Arlo. Abacus is also an Official Licensee of the 2027 Ryder Cup.
Where it falls short for UK golfers: you can't buy direct, because the brand's store only delivers to Sweden and Denmark. UK stock leans heavily to rainwear, there's no stated long-term waterproof guarantee, and independent customer reviews barely exist.
This brand is best for golfers who play through British weather and want top-rated rain protection without paying Gore-Tex prices.

Key Features
- Signature tech/fabric: A three-step rainwear ladder: Links (10,000mm), Bounce (15,000mm, four-way stretch) and Pitch 37.5 (20,000mm, 50,000g breathability, 260g)
- Design language: Clean Scandinavian performance wear in navy, black and muted seasonal colours, many pieces named after famous courses (Muirfield, Portrush, Dornoch, Lahinch)
- Fit profile: Fit is stated per product: regular for most pieces, "regular/tight" on the Pitch, "generous" on the Links
- Range depth: Men's, women's and junior polos, base layers, midlayers, knitwear, trousers, skorts and a deep rainwear line; UK shops mainly carry the rainwear
Pros
- The Pitch 37.5 was joint Best Overall in MyGolfSpy's rain gear tests in both 2025 and 2026
- A tiered rain range, from a £129 Links jacket to the £269.99 Pitch, so you buy only the protection you need
- The Bounce waterproof hoodie is a genuinely different shape: MyGolfSpy's 2026 Staff Pick
- UK prices sit well below Galvin Green's £359 Arlo, and UK stockists discount often
Cons
- No direct UK sales: the brand's own store ships only to Sweden and Denmark
- UK availability is mostly rainwear, wind layers and base layers; polos are thin on the ground
- No stated long-term waterproof guarantee, just a standard repair-or-replace complaints process
- Almost no consumer reviews: two on Trustpilot, one of them a complaint about a leaking jacket
Abacus Golf Pricing
Abacus prices its rainwear as a ladder, and UK golfers pay in pounds through stockists. UK RRPs run from about £129 for the Links rain jacket to £219.99 for the Bounce and £269.99 for the flagship Pitch 37.5. A UK visitor to abacussportswear.com sees euro prices (the Pitch is €349.90) but can't check out, so the stockist price is the one that counts.
| Category | Entry | Typical | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Polos/Tops | £40 | £45–£50 | £60 |
| Midlayers | £65 | £80–£100 | £130 |
| Trousers/Shorts | £90 | £100–£150 | £230+ |
| Outerwear (rain) | £129 | £150–£220 | £270 |
| Caps/Accessories | £30 | £30–£34 | £40 |
UK stockist RRPs at Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline: Links rain jacket £129–£130, Bounce waterproof hoodie £149.99, Bounce full-zip jacket £219.99, Pitch 37.5 jacket £269.90–£269.99, Bounce rain trousers £129–£149.99, Pitch rain trousers £229.99–£249.90, polos £44.90–£50, Aloha base layer £39.99, Loop hoodie £64.95, Foxhills full-zip £99.95, Portrush hybrid jacket £129.99, Muirfield softshell trousers £99.95, Huntingdale shorts £90, Links rain cap £29.90–£33.99. The euro list prices are approximate GBP equivalents of £299 (Pitch) and £248 (Bounce) at about €1.17 to the pound, so UK RRPs are the better deal.
Comparison:
- Abacus vs Three Putt: Different jobs entirely. Abacus is £129–£270 rain protection from a Swedish specialist. Three Putt is a UK brand with golf tees from £24.99, sweatshirts from £37.99, heavyweight hoodies from £45.99 and free UK delivery. Wear ours underneath and theirs over the top.
- Abacus vs Galvin Green: Sweden's two rainwear names, from separate companies. Galvin Green builds in Gore-Tex with a lifetime waterproof guarantee; its Arlo jacket is £359. The £269.99 Pitch outscored the Arlo 9.8 to 9.4 in MyGolfSpy's 2026 test, but has no long-term guarantee.
- Abacus vs KJUS: MyGolfSpy's 2026 joint winners, both scoring 9.8. The KJUS Pro 3L 3.0 was listed at $579 in that test, the Pitch at $460. KJUS is the luxury pick; Abacus gets the same score for less.
- Abacus vs Oscar Jacobson: Two Swedish golf brands, different specialities. Oscar Jacobson leads on tailored polos, trousers and knitwear; Abacus leads on weatherproofing. Plenty of golfers would wear one under the other.
Promos/Outlet Notes: UK stockists such as Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline discount Abacus regularly, so it's worth checking both before paying full price. Abacus's own sales apply only in Sweden and Denmark.
Verdict: 8.0/10
Strong value for proven rainwear: the Pitch costs about £90 less than Galvin Green's Arlo and outscored it, and stockist sales often take more off. It's not cheap, though, and the RRP has crept up to £269.99.
Abacus Golf Fit & Sizing (Usability)
Abacus states the fit on every product page, which beats a vague "true to size" claim. Most pieces are regular. The Pitch is "regular/tight" to keep fabric out of the swing, while the Links jacket is "generous" for layering.
Notes:
- Polos/Tops: The Cray DryCool polo and the Aloha base layers are regular fits in stretch fabrics.
- Midlayers: Portrush hybrids, Foxhills layers and the new Liffin knitted windstopper are regular fits built to go under a rain jacket.
- Trousers/Shorts: Men's Muirfield softshell and Bounce waterproof trousers come in 28–42 inch waists with 30–36 inch leg lengths. Women's trousers run EU 34–48.
- Outerwear: The Pitch is the trimmest jacket, so try it over your usual midlayer before committing. Golf Monthly's 6ft 1in, slim-build tester found a medium Bounce "a perfect fit".
- Heat/Humidity: The Pitch's 50,000g breathability and 37.5 Technology help on muggy wet days, and the Aloha base layer adds UPF 50 sun protection.
- Size Charts: The brand's size guide has separate men's and women's charts for tops, legwear and rainwear.
Accessibility/Range:
- Men's sizes run S–3XL as standard, with XS and 4XL–5XL on selected styles, including the Pitch jacket and some polos and midlayers.
- Women's run XS–2XL, with 3XL on some pieces. The Swedish store carries more women's lines than men's, so this is no afterthought.
- A junior range runs 130–170cm, including Links rain jackets and trousers.
Verdict: 7.8/10
Clear fit labels, trouser leg lengths and sizes up to 5XL on key styles are genuine positives. The catch: UK shops carry only part of the size run.
Abacus Golf Core Product Categories
Outerwear / Rainwear
The heart of the brand, and its best category by a distance. Links (from £129) is a classic woven waterproof with a mesh lining. Bounce (£219.99 for the full-zip) adds four-way stretch and comes as a jacket, rain shirt or the hoodie, new in course green for autumn 2026. The Pitch 37.5 (£269.99) is the flagship: 20,000mm waterproof, sealed seams and only 260g. MyGolfSpy rated it joint Best Overall for the second year running and made the Bounce hoodie its 2026 Staff Pick.
Verdict: 8.8/10
Midlayers (hybrids/fleeces/knitwear)
A solid supporting cast built to sit under the shells. The Portrush hybrid jacket (£129.99) pairs padded, windproof body panels with stretch fleece sleeves. The Foxhills layers (£89.95–£99.95) and Loop and Banff hoodies (£64.95–£79.99) cover milder days. New for autumn 2026 is the Liffin knitted windstopper, a merino-blend quarter-zip with a windproof lining (€179.90, about £154). The Hoylake thermo midlayer is no longer sold.
Verdict: 7.8/10

Polos & Tops
A competent range that rounds out the all-weather offer. The Cray DryCool polo, which Abacus calls its most popular, comes in 14 colours in 100% recycled polyester, and UK polo RRPs sit around £44.90–£50. The Aloha base layers and UV turtlenecks (£39.99–£59.90) are the more interesting pieces. UK stock is thin, though, and much of it is end-of-line.
Verdict: 7.4/10

Trousers/Shorts
The waterproof trousers are the standout, available in all three rain tiers so you can build a matching suit: Bounce at £129–£149.99 and Pitch at £229.99–£249.90. The Muirfield softshell trousers (£99.95) are windproof with a brushed fleece lining, and the new Jigger warm trousers suit cold rounds. Huntingdale shorts (£90) and women's skorts complete the line.
Verdict: 7.6/10

Caps & Accessories
Function first. The Links rain cap (£29.90–£33.99), Links rain hat and Lahinch rain bucket hat (£39.95) keep water off your face, and beanies, gloves, umbrellas and belts fill out the range. Abacus also sells wash-in and spray-on re-proofing products, a thoughtful touch for a rainwear brand.
Verdict: 7.2/10
Abacus Golf Materials & Tech (Construction, Sustainability)
Abacus's spec sheets are refreshingly specific: every rain piece lists its waterproof rating, breathability, stretch and fit. The tech is its own fabrics plus licensed 37.5 Technology, not Gore-Tex.
Backend (manufacturing & standards):
- Abacus Sportswear AB is a family-owned company founded in 1991 by Sven-Olof Karlsson and Ingrid Lindgren Wachtmeister, based near Lund in southern Sweden.
- It is not related to Galvin Green; the two are separate Swedish companies. Both feature in our guide to European golf brands.
- Country of manufacture isn't stated on product pages.
- The rainwear is PFC-free and many pieces use recycled polyester, but we found no third-party certification such as bluesign.
Application (on-garment features):
- Pitch 37.5: 20,000mm waterproof, 50,000g/m²/24h breathability, 102% four-way stretch, sealed seams, a rubber waist grip and a 260g weight. Golfalot explains that 37.5 Technology embeds volcanic sand and coconut shell in the fibre.
- Bounce: 15,000mm and 15,000g, 100% four-way stretch, unlined, with waterproof-zip pockets. Golf Monthly describes its StretchDry fabric as three bonded layers around a breathable membrane.
- Links: 10,000mm and 10,000g in a woven fabric with two-way stretch, a mesh lining and adjustable cuffs, waist and neck.
- Polos and base layers: DryCool wicking fabrics, many in 100% recycled polyester; the Aloha pieces add UPF 50.
Verdict: 8.3/10
Strong, clearly specified and award-validated rain tech, PFC-free across the rain range. Undisclosed manufacturing origins and no formal certification keep it short of the top marks.
Abacus Golf Customer Support
Abacus runs a tidy Scandinavian operation, but its own store won't sell to UK golfers. Your delivery and returns come from whichever UK stockist you buy from.
Channels & Hours
- Email webshop@abacussportswear.com; Abacus says it usually replies within 24 hours.
- Phone +46 (0)46 288 72 72, Monday to Thursday 09:00–16:00 and Friday 09:00–15:00 Swedish time, an hour ahead of the UK.
- The Swedish and Danish store takes Klarna payments by card, invoice or MobilePay.
Policies
- Direct orders can be returned within 30 days of the order date, unused with hangtags, for a 69 SEK or 49 DKK return fee.
- Faults go through a complaints process: email a photo, and Abacus will replace the product or repair it.
- There's no stated multi-year or lifetime waterproof guarantee, unlike Galvin Green's Gore-Tex pieces.
Self-Serve
- The store delivers only to Sweden and Denmark. A UK visitor sees euro prices, every size marked unavailable and a "Find a retailer" button.
- Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline carry current Abacus lines in pounds, with no import charges; Golfsupport has a smaller selection. American Golf, Scottsdale Golf and Function18 don't currently list the brand.
- Delivery and returns follow the stockist's terms. Clubhouse Golf, for example, delivers free to the UK mainland over £30.
Verdict: 7.0/10
Responsive support for Scandinavia, but UK buyers depend entirely on retailers and get no long-term waterproof promise. At least stockists mean pounds and familiar UK returns.
What Are Abacus's Review Ratings from Review Sites?
(As of October 2026)
- Trustpilot: 3.5/5 from just two reviews on an unclaimed profile, one of them a one-star complaint from Denmark that a rain jacket let water in. Too small a sample to weigh either way.
- Editorial: The real signal. MyGolfSpy's 2026 rain gear test scored the Pitch 9.8, joint Best Overall with KJUS for the second year running, and made the Bounce hoodie its Staff Pick. Golfalot said its performance against Galvin Green is "more than a match". Golf Monthly called the Bounce jacket "very impressive in all departments".
- Brand-cited awards: Abacus also says the Pitch won Today's Golfer Editor's Choice two years running and a Golf Digest packability award, though it isn't in Today's Golfer's current rain jacket guide.
- Credibility and Reach: National Tournament Partner to the PGA in Great Britain and Ireland since 2025, and official apparel supplier to Golf Ireland's teams through 2027. It was an Official Licensee for the 2026 Solheim Cup and is one for the 2027 Ryder Cup. Instagram is modest at around 8,400 followers.
Synthesis:
The consumer-review footprint is almost non-existent, so you're trusting the testers. They are emphatic: two years at the top of MyGolfSpy's rain gear test is hard to argue with.
Is Abacus a Good Golf Brand?
Yes. Abacus is one of the best-value rain gear brands in golf. The Pitch 37.5 matches KJUS in independent testing for less money, and the tiered range means nobody overpays. The trade-offs are no direct UK sales, UK stock skewed to rainwear, no long-term waterproof guarantee and almost no customer reviews. Abacus keeps you dry; it doesn't dress you for the dry days. For those, Three Putt's golf tees and heavyweight hoodies come from a UK brand with free UK delivery. For more ways to stay dry, see our guide to the best waterproof golf clothing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Abacus
Who owns Abacus?
Abacus Sportswear AB is a family-owned Swedish company founded in 1991 by Sven-Olof Karlsson and Ingrid Lindgren Wachtmeister. Karlsson, who once played 153 holes of golf in a day in jeans and a cotton polo, was still described as CEO and founder in 2025. The company is based near Lund in southern Sweden.
Is Abacus related to Galvin Green?
No. Both are Swedish golf rainwear specialists, but they are entirely separate companies. Galvin Green builds its waterproofs in Gore-Tex and offers a lifetime waterproof guarantee. Abacus doesn't use Gore-Tex: it uses its own fabrics and 37.5 Technology, costs less, and outscored Galvin Green's Arlo in MyGolfSpy's 2026 test.
Is Abacus good rain gear?
Yes, among the best you can buy. The Pitch 37.5 jacket was joint Best Overall with KJUS in MyGolfSpy's rain gear tests in both 2025 and 2026, scoring 9.8 in 2026. It is rated 20,000mm waterproof with 50,000g breathability and weighs 260g. The Bounce waterproof hoodie was MyGolfSpy's 2026 Staff Pick.
Does Abacus ship to the UK?
Not directly. The brand's own store delivers only to Sweden and Denmark, and UK visitors see euro prices with every size marked unavailable. UK golfers buy through stockists such as Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline instead. That means pounds, no import charges, and the stockist's own delivery and returns terms.
Where can I buy Abacus in the UK?
Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline carry the widest current ranges, mostly rainwear, wind layers, base layers and headwear, plus some polos and midlayers. Golfsupport has a smaller selection. American Golf, Scottsdale Golf and Function18 don't currently list Abacus. Stockists often discount, so compare prices before you buy.
How does Abacus sizing run?
Abacus states the fit on each product. Most pieces are regular, the Pitch jacket is "regular/tight" and the Links jacket "generous". Men's sizes run S–3XL with XS and up to 5XL on selected styles, women's XS–2XL, and men's trousers come in 28–42 inch waists with leg lengths. Measure against the brand's size guide.
Where is Abacus clothing made?
Abacus designs its clothing in Sweden, but product pages don't state where garments are manufactured. The brand does publish detailed fabric specifications, lists its rainwear as PFC-free and uses recycled polyester across many polos and wind layers. We found no third-party sustainability certification such as bluesign on its product pages.
What is Abacus's return policy and warranty?
Direct orders in Sweden and Denmark can be returned within 30 days of ordering, unused with hangtags, for a small return fee. Faults are handled by a complaints process that replaces or repairs the product. There's no stated lifetime waterproof guarantee. UK buyers return to their stockist under that retailer's terms.
