Turtleson vs Three Putt: US Clubhouse Polos or UK Golf Streetwear

Updated on: October 2, 2026 • ~11 min read

Author: Graeme

We test golf apparel the way we play. Hard, social, and honest.

A Tennessee clubhouse brand from two of Peter Millar's founders, against a Leeds streetwear label that sells four cotton garments. Only one of them ships to a UK address.

How We Review Golf Clothing Brands

Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.

Verdict and Quick Pick

Turtleson is a premium golf brand from Bristol, Tennessee, best known for $120 (about £92) performance polos with a stay-free Standwell collar, but its own store ships only to US addresses. Three Putt is a Leeds golf streetwear brand selling heavyweight cotton tees and hoodies from £23.99. Pick Turtleson for on-course polish and Three Putt for off-course style.

Best for golf style off the course with free UK delivery: Three Putt. Heavyweight cotton tees, long-sleeves, sweatshirts and hoodies with golf graphics, priced from £23.99 to £54.99. It is casual wear, not performance kit, and there are no collared shirts.

Best for on-course polish and collared-shirt dress codes: Turtleson. Stretch performance polos, trousers, waterproofs and a proper women's line, with core polos running to 5XL. The catch for UK golfers is that turtleson.com doesn't offer international shipping.

Brand Overview

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt is a UK golf streetwear brand based in Leeds. The range is deliberately small: tees, long-sleeve tees, sweatshirts and hoodies.

Each garment comes in six graphic designs: Contours, Happy Place, Tee Time, Reckless Driving, The Scenic Route and Three on the Green. The idea is golf culture you can wear anywhere, not a full on-course wardrobe.

That brings honest limits. The range has no polos, trousers, shorts, outerwear, waterproofs or caps, and no women's-specific line. If your club has a collared-shirt dress code, you will need a polo from elsewhere.

Turtleson

Turtleson was founded in 2011 in Bristol, Tennessee, by longtime business partners Greg Oakley and Chet Sikorski. Before that, the pair were two of the founding partners of Peter Millar, alongside Chris Knott, in 2001. Oakley runs Turtleson as CEO, and the brand trades under the line "Style at Your Own Pace".

The polo is the franchise. Turtleson's design team spent nearly a year on prototypes for its Standwell collar, a bonded construction that holds its shape without stays, buttons or snaps. Every polo also carries an "11 stitch" pattern on its buttons, a nod to the founding year.

Turtleson's store locator lists 291 stockists across 37 US states, including Pinehurst. Its ambassador roster includes PGA Tour players Pierceson Coody, Trey Mullinax and Henrik Norlander, plus DP World Tour players such as Marcus Armitage.

For UK golfers, the key line sits in its FAQ: "At this time, we do not offer international shipping." In September 2026 Turtleson hired sales leads for France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and the UAE. The UK wasn't on that list.

Key Features and Fabrics

Three Putt Golf

  • Tees: 100% cotton, 260gsm, relaxed fit, S–3XL, five colourways per design.
  • Long-sleeve tees: 280gsm, 85% cotton / 15% polyester, loose drop-shoulder fit, S–2XL.
  • Sweatshirts: 400gsm cotton crewneck, regular fit, S–2XL.
  • Hoodies: 430gsm, 56% cotton / 44% polyester, oversized drop-shoulder fit, S–2XL, four colourways per design.

These are heavyweight casual garments, not technical performance wear. Don't expect moisture-wicking, stretch fabric or weather protection.

Turtleson

  • Performance polos: the Alex Performance Polo ($120) is 91% polyester and 9% spandex, a lightweight micro-pique with four-way stretch, moisture-wicking and built-in UPF. Its "full dull" yarn is chosen for "a soft, natural appearance". The Grady polo comes in 22 colours.
  • Diamond Knit polos: the Jules Diamond Knit Polo ($125) uses drirelease®, which Turtleson says moves moisture away from the skin four times faster.
  • Layers: the Bellfield Hoodie ($150) blends 46% cotton, 25% modal, 25% polyester and 4% spandex, and Turtleson calls it its all-time best-selling layer. Quarter-zips run $130–$195, topped by merino and cashmere.
  • Trousers and shorts: the Tide to Tee Pant ($150) uses a hybrid performance fabric designed to look right off the course too. Shorts cost $125.
  • Outerwear: the packable, water-resistant Aidan Comfort Shell ($165), the quilted Driver Hybrid Jacket ($250) and the fully waterproof, seam-sealed Waterproof Defender Jacket ($375). No waterproof rating is published.

Turtleson also makes a full women's line, with polos, skorts, layers and outerwear. That covers a golfer the Three Putt range doesn't.

Price Comparison

Category Three Putt Turtleson (US price, about £ at $1.30)
Tees and polos Tees £23.99–£29.99; long-sleeve tees £27.99–£34.99 Short-sleeve polos $105–$145, most $120 (about £92)
Hoodies £45.99–£54.99 Bellfield Hoodie $150 (about £115); Kephart cashmere hoodie $395 (about £304)
Sweatshirts and quarter-zips Sweatshirts £37.99–£47.99 Quarter-zips $130–$195 (about £100–£150)
Trousers and shorts Not in the range Tide to Tee Pant $150 (about £115); shorts $125 (about £96)
Outerwear Not in the range Aidan Comfort Shell $165 (about £127) to Waterproof Defender $375 (about £288)
Delivery to a UK address Free Not offered: US addresses only

Turtleson figures are the full US prices on turtleson.com in October 2026, converted at about $1.30 to the pound. A UK visitor sees dollars. Any workaround, such as a US parcel-forwarding service, adds its own fees. Under UK rules on goods from abroad, VAT applies, and customs duty is due on parcels worth over £135.

Price Verdict

One Turtleson polo, at about £92, costs roughly the same as two Three Putt hoodies at £45.99, before any import costs. The Bellfield Hoodie alone costs more than twice Three Putt's dearest hoodie. Turtleson's prices are fair for engineered performance kit, but for value per pound in the UK, Three Putt wins clearly.

Fit and Sizing

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt tees run S–3XL and everything else S–2XL. Tees have a relaxed fit, long-sleeves a loose drop shoulder and sweatshirts a regular fit. Hoodies are oversized with a drop shoulder, cut for a streetwear look.

Turtleson

Turtleson describes its block as "room to move, never boxy". Product pages say it runs true to size, and suggest sizing down for a more tailored look if you're between sizes. TrueFit recommendations sit on every product page.

Sizing is a real strength. The men's size chart runs S–5XL, from a 36–38in chest up to 58–60in. Core polos such as the Alex and Grady, and some quarter-zips, come in S–5XL. Most other polos and jackets stop at 2XL, and the Bellfield Hoodie at 3XL.

Trousers come in waists 30–42 with a 34in inseam that is ready to be hemmed. Women's sizes run XS–2XL, with XS–3XL on several polos.

Fit Verdict

Turtleson wins for bigger golfers who want a proper golf polo, with core styles to 5XL against Three Putt's 3XL tees. Three Putt is cut for relaxed streetwear shapes rather than a tailored on-course look. Whichever you buy, get the size right first time, because both brands leave return postage to you.

Style and Versatility

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt is golf streetwear: golf-themed graphics on heavyweight cotton, in relaxed and oversized shapes. A Three Putt hoodie suits a casual range session, the pub after a round or a weekend layer. It is not the right top for a members' competition at a traditional club. Our guide to wearing a T-shirt to golf explains where a tee usually passes.

Turtleson

Turtleson dresses the clubhouse. The look is fine stripes, texture and colour stories designed to mix across seasons, with branding kept to small details rather than big chest logos.

A Standwell-collar polo with Tide to Tee trousers meets a typical collared-shirt dress code, then works at dinner. Turtleson also sells officially licensed college apparel, which matters more in Tennessee than in Yorkshire. Check your club's golf dress code before relying on a hoodie from either brand.

Style Verdict

Both brands cross over, in opposite directions. Turtleson takes you from the first tee to a smart dinner in the same outfit. Three Putt takes golf culture into everyday streetwear. Choose Turtleson for polished days at the club and Three Putt for the sofa, the pub and the car park.

Quality, Durability and Sustainability

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt's quality story is weight. Tees are 260gsm cotton, sweatshirts are 400gsm and hoodies are 430gsm. On sustainability, Three Putt makes no recycled-content or eco claims. Its tees are 100% cotton.

Turtleson

Turtleson's buyers rate it highly: 4.7 out of 5 from nearly 1,000 on-site reviews, with 86% of them five-star. Independent evidence is thinner, because its Trustpilot profile had no reviews in October 2026. GOLF.com called the Bex Argyle merino layer "exceptionally soft and super lightweight" in August 2026; the writer was sent the products.

Every product page lists the full fabric composition, and the guarantee covers workmanship, material and production defects, though not general wear, accidents or poor care. Product pages say "Designed in Bristol, Tennessee" but don't state where garments are made, and Turtleson publishes no sustainability claims or certifications.

Quality Verdict

Turtleson wins on technical construction, with an engineered collar, stretch fabrics and buyer ratings few brands can match. Three Putt wins on heavyweight cotton at a low price. Neither makes a real sustainability case, so that part is a draw.

Customer Support and Returns

Three Putt Golf

Delivery is free across the UK. Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery: email support@threeputtgolfclothing.co.uk first, and note that you pay the return postage. Support is by email.

Turtleson

Turtleson has an in-house customer care team in Bristol. Its contact page lists a US toll-free number, 1-877-408-8353, staffed 9am–5pm Eastern, Monday to Friday. That is afternoon and evening in the UK. Phone orders are accepted, and there's email at CustomerCare@turtleson.com.

The terms are built around US customers. Every return needs a pre-approved return authorisation (RA) number, and you pay return postage unless the item is faulty or wrong. Clearance items can't be returned, and gifts can only be exchanged.

The returns window depends on which page you read. The FAQ and product pages say 30 days, while the refund policy still says 60. The same policy says customers outside the US pay all shipping, duty and taxes, including on returns and exchanges.

Support Verdict

For a US customer, Turtleson's phone line and in-house team are a real strength. For a UK golfer, Three Putt is far simpler: free delivery to your door and one clear 14-day returns window. Return postage is on you with either brand, but only one of them will post to Britain in the first place.

Our Pick

Buy Turtleson if you want one brand to dress you for the course and can get past the shipping problem, because turtleson.com delivers only to US addresses. Its polos meet a collared-shirt dress code, the range runs to trousers, waterproofs and a women's line, and core polos come in sizes up to 5XL. Budget about £92 a polo before any import costs. If the Peter Millar connection is what drew you, our Peter Millar review covers the founders' first brand.

Buy Three Putt if you want golf style for everywhere else, delivered free in the UK. Heavyweight tees from £23.99, long-sleeve tees, sweatshirts and hoodies under £52 cover the walk to the first tee and the drink afterwards. You will still need a collared polo from elsewhere if your club requires one.

Plenty of golfers will own both: a Turtleson polo for the Saturday medal and a Three Putt hoodie for the drive home. For more US labels and how they treat UK buyers, see our guide to American golf brands.

Frequently Asked Questions About Three Putt vs Turtleson

Is Three Putt a good alternative to Turtleson?

For off-course style, yes. Three Putt sells heavyweight tees, long-sleeves, sweatshirts and hoodies from £23.99, with free UK delivery. It is not an alternative for on-course kit. The range has no polos, trousers, shorts or waterproofs, and its cotton garments offer no wicking or stretch. To replace a Turtleson polo, you need a performance brand.

Does Turtleson ship to the UK?

No. Turtleson's FAQ says it does not offer international shipping, and its store delivers only to US addresses. Its store locator lists 291 stockists, all in the US. A 2025 deal with the Confederation of Professional Golf offers custom orders to PGA professionals in its member countries, so a club pro may be able to order it.

Which is better on the course?

Turtleson, clearly. Its performance polos stretch, wick and carry built-in UPF, the Standwell collar keeps its shape without stays, and the Waterproof Defender is fully waterproof and seam-sealed. Three Putt's cotton tees and hoodies suit a relaxed round at an easy-going club, but offer no performance fabric or weather protection.

Is Three Putt good quality?

Three Putt's quality case rests on fabric weight. Tees are 260gsm 100% cotton, sweatshirts are 400gsm cotton and hoodies are 430gsm cotton/polyester. That is substantial for casual wear at £23.99–£54.99. Turtleson offers more technical construction and strong buyer ratings, but its Bellfield Hoodie costs $150, about £115, more than twice Three Putt's dearest hoodie.

How do the fits differ?

Turtleson calls its fit "room to move, never boxy" and says it runs true to size, with TrueFit advice on every product. Men's sizes run S–2XL as standard and S–5XL on core polos. Three Putt cuts are streetwear shapes: relaxed tees, loose long-sleeves, regular-fit sweatshirts and oversized hoodies. Its tees run S–3XL and the rest S–2XL.

Which is better off the course?

It depends on the setting. A Turtleson polo with Tide to Tee trousers works for smart-casual days, the office and dinner. Three Putt works as everyday streetwear, with heavyweight cotton and golf graphics. For pubs, cold weekends and gifts, Three Putt is the easier pick; for a tidier look, choose Turtleson.

Are Turtleson and Three Putt sustainable?

Neither makes much of a sustainability case. Turtleson publishes no sustainability claims or certifications, and its product pages say "Designed in Bristol, Tennessee" without stating where garments are made. Three Putt makes no recycled-content or eco claims; its tees are 100% cotton.

Which is better value?

For a UK buyer, Three Putt. Its whole range sits between £23.99 and £54.99, with free UK delivery. Turtleson's short-sleeve polos cost $105–$145, most $120 (about £92), and its technical jackets run to $375, all priced in dollars with no UK delivery option. For a premium polo you will wear every week, Turtleson's price is in line with its American peers.
