7 Best Criquet Alternatives in 2026 | Ranked

Exploring the brands golfers turn to beyond Criquet's vintage-inspired, cotton-first golf shirts.

How We Review Golf Clothing Brands

Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.

Top Picks

  1. Sounder Golf: Best overall alternative, with organic cotton polos shipped from London
  2. Three Putt Golf: Best for golf streetwear off the course, priced in pounds
  3. Johnnie-O: Best for prep style across a broader family wardrobe
  4. Cutter & Buck: Best for certified recycled fabrics
  5. Breezy Golf: Best for relaxed golf apparel with an official UK distributor
  6. Foray Golf: Best for a dedicated women's golf range
  7. Zero Restriction: Best for fully waterproof outerwear

Why People Look Beyond Criquet

Golfers usually look beyond Criquet for cost, weather or size. A $104 Players Shirt gets dearer once UK shipping and import duties land, and international buyers pay their own return postage. None of its jackets carries a waterproof rating for a wet British round. And sizes stop at XXL, with no big and tall range.

Criquet was founded in Austin, Texas, in 2010 by lifelong friends Billy Nachman and Hobson Brown. Its about page admits that at the start, "we had no idea what we were doing." What they built was the Players Shirt, a vintage-inspired cotton polo with a structured collar and removable collar stays. The cotton Players Shirts are made in Peru.

The Top-Shelf and Performance Players Shirts cost $104, and the Performance version adds stretch and moisture-wicking for warm rounds. Returns are accepted within 60 days of purchase, which is generous by any standard. Our full Criquet review covers the shirts themselves in more depth.

The gaps show up at the edges. Criquet's jackets and heavier layers are style pieces, and none carries a waterproof rating. Sizes run S–XXL, with no tall, extended or big and tall sizes. There is no sustainability page and no published third-party certification.

Distance adds cost too. International orders pay extra shipping plus taxes and duties, and Criquet doesn't cover return postage on them. Its college and MLS embroidered pieces, a large slice of the catalogue, don't ship abroad at all.

Detailed Breakdown by Brand

Sounder Golf: Best Overall Alternative to Criquet

Available on: soundergolf.com · Read our full Sounder Golf review

Key Features:

  • Launched in London in March 2021 by Cathal McAteer, founder of the label Folk, and James Day, founder of Urban Golf
  • The name comes from the Sounder clubs Seve Ballesteros once played
  • Polos are made in Portugal from 100% organic cotton, priced £75–£85 in October 2026
  • The range runs to chinos, knitwear and a 15,000mm waterproof jacket made with Protected Species (£275)

Pros:

  • Polos come from a family-owned factory in Portugal that has made them since the brand began
  • Ships from London with VAT included and no duties; delivery is £5.95, or free over £100
  • Stocked at Carnoustie Golf Links, Gleneagles, Nairn Golf Club and The Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle
  • Trustpilot score of 4.7 from 573 reviews in October 2026

Cons:

  • Returns within 14 days against Criquet's 60, and shipping costs aren't refunded
  • No women's range, and most polos run S–XXL only
  • Its polos name no certification for the organic cotton, though some chinos use GOTS organic cotton

Verdict:

Sounder is the closest match to the idea Criquet started with: natural-fibre polos with a clear point of view. The difference is that the parcel comes from London, with no import duty to pay. Prices sit in the same premium bracket, but the returns window is far shorter.

Three Putt Golf: Best for Golf Streetwear Off the Course

Available on: threeputtgolfclothing.co.uk · Read our full Criquet vs Three Putt comparison

Key Features:

  • A UK golf streetwear brand based in Leeds, selling tees, long-sleeve tees, sweatshirts and hoodies
  • Each garment comes in six graphic designs: Contours, Happy Place, Tee Time, Reckless Driving, The Scenic Route and Three on the Green
  • Tees are 100% cotton, 305gsm and a relaxed fit, in S–2XL and five colourways per design
  • Hoodies are 430gsm (56% cotton, 44% polyester) in an oversized drop-shoulder fit; sweatshirts are 400gsm cotton crewnecks

Pros:

  • Free UK delivery and pound pricing, with no import duty to think about
  • Tees cost £24.99–£30.99 and hoodies £45.99–£54.99, against $104 for a Criquet Players Shirt before shipping and duty
  • Long-sleeve tees (305gsm, 100% cotton) cost £28.99–£35.99

Cons:

  • No polos, trousers or outerwear, so golfers at clubs with a collared-shirt dress code will need a polo from elsewhere
  • Cotton, not technical kit: no moisture-wicking, stretch or weather protection
  • Returns within 14 days of delivery at the customer's cost, after emailing support first, against Criquet's 60 days

Verdict:

Criquet's motto is about life comfortably off the course, and that is the half of the wardrobe Three Putt covers, for much less money. It won't put a collared polo on your back for the first tee. For the drive home, the bar and the weekend, it's the cheaper and simpler buy.

Johnnie-O: Best for Prep Style Across a Broader Family Wardrobe

Available on: johnnie-o.com · Read our full Johnnie-O review

Key Features:

  • Founded in 2005 by John O'Donnell, a former UCLA golfer who first sold shirts out of his car
  • Calls its style West Coast Prep, sitting between East Coast tradition and West Coast casual
  • The Original 4-Button Polo costs $89 (about £68) in 95% cotton and 5% spandex
  • J.T. Poston, an ambassador since January 2026, won the 2026 Memorial Tournament wearing the brand

Pros:

  • International duties and taxes are shown and guaranteed at checkout, so there's usually nothing to pay on delivery
  • Full men's, women's and boys' ranges, for a wider wardrobe than Criquet's shirt-led line-up
  • British golf creators Peter Finch and Danny Maude are brand ambassadors
  • A cotton-led polo at a lower price than Criquet's Players Shirt

Cons:

  • Doesn't accept returns on international orders, except where the law requires it
  • Prices are set in US dollars, so the pound cost moves with the exchange rate
  • Its own stores and free return points are all in the US

Verdict:

Johnnie-O is the nearest thing to Criquet with a bigger business and a wider family wardrobe behind it. The catch is the returns policy. Criquet takes returns within 60 days, while Johnnie-O generally won't accept an international return at all.

Cutter & Buck: Best for Certified Recycled Fabrics

Available on: cutterbuck.com · Read our full Cutter & Buck review

Key Features:

  • Founded on Seattle's waterfront in 1989; the name pairs a cutter for the sea with a buck for the mountains
  • A subsidiary of Swedish group New Wave Group
  • The Virtue Eco Pique polo is 95% recycled polyester and 5% spandex, using GRS-certified post-consumer polyester
  • Title sponsor of the Swedish men's tour, now the Cutter & Buck Tour, in a four-year deal from 2024

Pros:

  • Names GRS certification on specific products, and works with amfori BSCI and the Fair Labor Association
  • The most checkable environmental claims of any brand on this list
  • Wide sizing, with XS–5XL on the Virtue polo plus a Big & Tall range
  • A women's golf line in Europe, the Annika collection, inspired by Annika Sorenstam

Cons:

  • cutterbuck.com ships only within the US, so UK buyers can't order from it
  • UK supply runs through European licensee PGB Sports and its stockists, so the range differs from the US site
  • Polyester-heavy, corporate-leaning styling, a long way from Criquet's vintage cotton look

Verdict:

If certification matters to you, Cutter & Buck is the corrective to Criquet, which publishes none, because GRS certification can be looked up. You give up cotton and character in return. And you'll be buying from a UK stockist rather than the brand's own site.

Breezy Golf: Best for Relaxed Golf Apparel with an Official UK Distributor

Available on: breezygolf.com · Read our full Breezy Golf review

Key Features:

  • Built by the Bob Does Sports crew around rounds with friends rather than low scores
  • Co-branded collections with THE PLAYERS Championship, the WM Phoenix Open, the U.S. Open and the TOUR Championship
  • Polos, tees, hoodies, quarter-zips and hats, plus a windbreaker and an insulated vest
  • Sizes run to 5XL across much of the range

Pros:

  • Cloud 18 Golf is the official UK distributor, pricing in pounds
  • Free UK delivery over £50 and 30-day returns through Cloud 18
  • UK prices run from £25 for a hat to about £75 for apparel in October 2026
  • The 5XL top end goes well past Criquet's XXL

Cons:

  • No women's collection
  • No trousers, and only two styles of shorts
  • No sustainability page or certifications

Verdict:

Breezy is a long way from Criquet's mid-century restraint, and nobody will confuse the two on looks. What it has is the thing Criquet lacks for British buyers. A UK distributor means pound prices, no customs and a 30-day return by post.

Foray Golf: Best for a Dedicated Women's Golf Range

Available on: foraygolf.com · Read our full Foray Golf review

Key Features:

  • A women's golf brand founded by Megan LaMothe after five years at Victoria's Secret
  • Polos, skirts, skorts, dresses, trousers and layers, all designed for women
  • Every skirt and dress includes shorts, and every skirt has pockets
  • Most of its performance fabrics are UPF 50+

Pros:

  • Cuts and lengths designed for women from the start, not scaled-down menswear
  • Shows UK visitors prices in pounds: polos £76–£124 and dresses £101–£193 in October 2026
  • Sizes XXS–XL, with XXL on many Core styles and a tall skirt length
  • Strong on-site ratings, such as 4.9 out of 5 from 40 reviews for the Core Sleeveless Polo

Cons:

  • Import duties fall on the buyer, and shipping and duties aren't refunded on returns
  • No exchanges at all, and anything marked down by more than 40% is final sale
  • International returns go back to South Carolina at your cost, and there are no waterproofs

Verdict:

Foray isn't a straight Criquet swap. It's a women's-only golf brand, built because women were being sold scaled-down menswear. The UK terms are the weak point. You pay the duty, you can't exchange, and returning is slow and costly.

Zero Restriction: Best for Fully Waterproof Outerwear

Available on: zerorestriction.com · Read our full Zero Restriction review

Key Features:

  • Founded in 1991 in a rural Pennsylvania barn by a golfer tired of rain gear that restricted his swing
  • The Z2000 jacket is a three-layer stretch shell rated 20,000mm waterproof and 15,000 g/m² breathable, with fully taped seams
  • Guaranteed waterproof for the life of the garment
  • Payne Stewart cut the sleeves off his Zero Restriction jacket at the 1999 US Open

Pros:

  • Fills the gap Criquet leaves, since none of Criquet's jackets carries a waterproof rating
  • Shows prices in pounds, with a broad women's range alongside the men's
  • With sister brand B.Draddy, official uniform supplier to the US Solheim Cup team for 2026 and 2028
  • A lifetime waterproof guarantee rather than a seasonal warranty

Cons:

  • Expensive, with the Z2000 jacket at £470 in October 2026
  • The Z2000 listing carries a "Made with PFAS" notice for some US states
  • Sizing runs small by the brand's own note, and its sustainability page names no certifications

Verdict:

This isn't a like-for-like Criquet swap. It's the jacket you put over a Criquet polo when the weather turns, which is a job none of Criquet's own jackets is rated for. Zero Restriction shares an owner, Summit Golf Brands, with B.Draddy and Fairway & Greene.

Quick Comparison Grid

Brand Best For Price Range Sustainability
Criquet Vintage-inspired cotton polos £££ Low (no sustainability page or published certifications)
Sounder Golf Organic cotton polos shipped from London £££ Moderate (100% organic cotton polos, GOTS organic cotton on some chinos, supplier and carbon-offset statement)
Three Putt Golf Golf streetwear off the course ££ No recycled-content or eco claims; tees are 100% cotton
Johnnie-O Prep style across a broader family wardrobe ££–£££ Low (built-to-last message, no certifications published)
Cutter & Buck Certified recycled fabrics ££ Moderate to high (GRS-certified lines, amfori BSCI, Fair Labor Association)
Breezy Golf Relaxed golf apparel with a UK distributor ££ Low: one 91% recycled-polyester pullover; no sustainability page or certifications
Foray Golf A dedicated women's golf range £££ None stated
Zero Restriction Fully waterproof outerwear ££££ Low (general sustainability page, no certifications, PFAS notice on the Z2000)

Summary

Criquet makes a lovely shirt. The Players Shirt still looks like nothing else on a first tee, and a 60-day returns window is more generous than most brands here offer.

The gaps are around the shirt. Nothing in the range carries a waterproof rating, sizes stop at XXL, and no certifications back the materials. For UK buyers, extra shipping, duty and return postage add up.

Each brand here answers one piece. Sounder ships natural-fibre polos from London with no duty to pay. Cutter & Buck brings certification you can check and sizes to 5XL, Foray brings a women's-only range and Zero Restriction brings the waterproof. Johnnie-O brings a wider family wardrobe, while Breezy and Three Putt bring pound pricing and a UK return address.

None of them is a straight swap, and that's the point. If you like Criquet's American lifestyle angle, our guide to American golf brands covers more of them.

Frequently Asked Questions About Criquet

What is Criquet known for?

Criquet is known for the Players Shirt, a vintage-inspired cotton golf polo with a structured collar and removable collar stays. The Top-Shelf and Performance versions both cost $104, and the Performance adds stretch and moisture-wicking for on-course wear. The brand's motto is about pursuing a life comfortably off the course, so its range leans towards lifestyle as much as golf.

When was Criquet founded?

Criquet was founded in 2010 in Austin, Texas, by Billy Nachman and Hobson Brown. The pair are lifelong friends who grew up in New York. They started the brand because they couldn't find the timeless, slightly irreverent golf shirt they wanted, and Austin remains its home today. Its own about page is unusually frank about how little the founders knew about running a business at the start.

How much does Criquet cost for a UK buyer?

Criquet's Top-Shelf and Performance Players Shirts cost $104 each. UK orders then add an international shipping charge plus taxes and import duties. Free shipping and free return labels are US perks, so a UK buyer also pays to send anything back. That makes Criquet a considered purchase from Britain rather than an impulse buy.

Does Criquet publish sustainability certifications?

No. Criquet has no sustainability page and publishes no third-party certifications, such as GOTS or OEKO-TEX, for its fabrics. Its cotton Players Shirts are made in Peru, and the Performance version blends in polyester and spandex for stretch. Golfers who want certified materials should look at Cutter & Buck's GRS-certified recycled polos.

Does Criquet ship to the UK?

Yes. Criquet ships internationally, and UK orders pay an extra shipping charge plus taxes and import duties. Custom-embroidered pieces, such as the college and MLS lines, aren't shipped internationally. Free shipping and free return labels apply to US orders only, so budget for postage both ways before ordering from Britain.

What is Criquet's returns policy for UK orders?

Criquet accepts returns within 60 days of purchase on unworn, unwashed items, and final-sale pieces can be exchanged or returned for store credit. For US orders, return shipping is free with a prepaid label. International customers pay their own return postage, and Criquet says it can't cover the cost of return shipping on international orders.

What sizes does Criquet make?

Criquet's Players Shirts come in S–XXL, with body chest measurements running from 36 to 49 inches. There are no tall, extended or big and tall sizes. Each product page carries its own size guide, and a slim fit version of the Players Shirt is also sold. Golfers who need 3XL or bigger will have to look elsewhere.

Does Criquet make waterproof golf jackets?

No. Criquet's jackets and heavier layers, such as quilted shackets and a moleskin jacket, are style pieces in its vintage look, and none carries a waterproof rating. They suit a dry autumn round or the clubhouse better than a wet links. For proper wet-weather golf, look at a rated waterproof such as Zero Restriction's Z2000.
