7 Best Rhoback Alternatives in 2026 | Ranked

Exploring the brands golfers turn to beyond Rhoback's print-led, activity-first performance apparel.

How We Review Golf Clothing Brands

Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.

Top Picks

  1. Lululemon: Best overall alternative with a proper UK operation
  2. Holderness & Bourne: Best for understated premium golf shirts
  3. Turtleson: Best for forgiving fits and green-grass quality
  4. Johnnie-O: Best for West Coast prep with tour credibility
  5. Three Putt Golf: Best for golf streetwear off the course
  6. Criquet: Best for vintage-inspired cotton golf shirts
  7. Birddogs: Best for built-in liner comfort

Why People Look Beyond Rhoback

UK golfers tend to look beyond Rhoback for three reasons. It is premium American performance wear, with men's polos mostly £73–£82 on its UK storefront in October 2026. Its prints and college lines are built for American buyers. And sending a UK order back means posting it to the US at your own cost.

Rhoback was founded in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2016 by Kevin Hubbard and Kristina and Matthew Loftus. It is named after the Rhodesian Ridgeback, a dog its story page says "perpetually craves activity". The brand sells itself as activewear for every activity, and golf is where its polos and Q-Zips built a following.

It is now a big business. Rhoback passed $150 million in revenue in 2025 and expects more than $200 million in 2026. In June 2026 it took a minority investment of nearly $50 million from CHAMP, the athlete-backed fund from L Catterton and Patricof Co. Its first shop opened in Charlottesville in November 2025.

The product is strong. The Solid Performance Polo is 92% polyester and 8% spandex, with four-way stretch, UPF 40–50+ and a self-collar that holds its shape. In October 2026 it carried a 4.8 rating from 847 reviews on Rhoback's own site.

The friction is in getting it here. International orders pay a flat $24 shipping rate plus customs and VAT. Free returns and exchanges are for US orders only, because Rhoback can't create return labels for carriers outside the US. The Gameday range covers 78 American colleges, which means little to a British golfer.

Here are seven alternatives, ranked with UK buyers in mind, covering who each one suits and where each one falls down.

Best Pick For…

Play Style / Need Best Brand
Technical performance bought and returned in the UK Lululemon
Understated premium shirts with tour pedigree Holderness & Bourne
Forgiving fits and bigger sizes Turtleson
West Coast prep with duties settled at checkout Johnnie-O
Golf streetwear for the clubhouse and off the course Three Putt Golf
Vintage-inspired cotton golf shirts Criquet
Built-in liner comfort in shorts and trousers Birddogs

Detailed Breakdown by Brand

Lululemon: Best overall alternative with a proper UK operation

Available on: lululemon.co.uk · Read our full Lululemon review

Key Features:

  • A dedicated golf line since 2022, with full men's and women's golf edits on the UK site
  • ABC golf trousers in Warpstreme fabric, plus ShowZero sweat-concealing and Evolution polos at £78 in July 2026
  • Min Woo Lee (signed January 2024) and Max Homa (January 2025) lead the golf roster
  • More than 20 UK stores, including a Regent Street flagship in London

Pros:

  • Priced in pounds and sold from UK stores, with free UK delivery over £50
  • Free 30-day returns, against Rhoback's self-funded post back to the US
  • Free trouser hemming for life, in store
  • ShowZero and Silverescent odour control are real technical features, not just labels

Cons:

  • Golf accessories amount to a cap and a pouch, and headwear is excluded from returns
  • The UK Trustpilot page for lululemon.co.uk stood at 1.9 from 377 reviews in July 2026, mostly about refunds
  • In 2025 it dropped its single-use plastic target and cut a 2030 preferred-materials goal from 100% to 90% of products

Verdict:

For a UK golfer, Lululemon fixes the exact problem Rhoback creates. You get comparable technical performance at similar money, with UK stores, sterling prices and free returns. The accessories range is thin and the service record is patchy, but on the buying experience alone it isn't close.

Holderness & Bourne: Best for understated premium golf shirts

Available on: holdernessandbourne.com · Read our full Holderness & Bourne review

Key Features:

  • Started by Yale MBA classmates Alex Holderness and John Bourne, who launched their first collection in 2015
  • Built around a structured collar and a tailored, trim body, with quiet branding
  • US polos run $115–$150 (about £88–£115) before shipping, based on July 2026 prices
  • PGA Tour winners Ben Griffin and Bud Cauley, plus US Amateur champion Mason Howell, wear the brand

Pros:

  • Real tour credibility, with Cauley winning the 2026 RBC Canadian Open as an H&B ambassador
  • Sold in sterling at Scottish pro shops such as Prestwick Golf Club, so you can buy and return in the UK
  • Its sustainability page cites bluesign-certified dyes and WRAP, SAC and BSCI supplier standards
  • 60-day returns on unembroidered items, with free return shipping on US orders

Cons:

  • It doesn't ship outside the US at all, according to its own FAQ
  • No women's apparel; the brand points women towards other labels
  • UK pro shop pricing is steep, with shirts at £140 at Prestwick in October 2026

Verdict:

Holderness & Bourne suits golfers who find Rhoback's prints too loud. It offers a quieter, sharper shirt with more tour credibility behind it. The catch is access, because a Scottish pro shop is the realistic UK route and that costs well over the US price.

Turtleson: Best for forgiving fits and green-grass quality

Available on: turtleson.com · Read our full Turtleson review

Key Features:

  • Founded in 2011 in Bristol, Tennessee, by Greg Oakley and Chet Sikorski, both founding partners of Peter Millar
  • The bonded Standwell collar holds its shape without stays or buttons
  • Diamond Knit polos with drirelease, which Turtleson says wick four times faster and run up to 7°F cooler
  • Core men's polos run S–5XL, and the women's line includes about 25 polos

Pros:

  • Cut to give room to move rather than a tour-tight fit, and sized up to 5XL
  • A 4.74 average from 997 reviews on its own site in October 2026
  • Panmure Golf Club's pro shop lists Turtleson in sterling, and Crail stocks crested pieces
  • A real women's range, unlike Holderness & Bourne and Birddogs

Cons:

  • No international shipping at all, so UK buyers rely on a few club shops
  • No sustainability page or certifications
  • US polos run $105–$145 (about £81–£112), and Panmure's prices reach £140

Verdict:

Turtleson is the pick for golfers who want a premium performance polo with more room to move. The cut and the 5XL sizing are deliberate, not an accident. UK access is the problem, because a handful of Scottish pro shops are the only route without a trip.

Johnnie-O: Best for West Coast prep with tour credibility

Available on: johnnie-o.com · Read our full Johnnie-O review

Key Features:

  • Launched in 2005 by John O'Donnell, a former UCLA golfer who sold his first shirts out of his car
  • Positions itself as West Coast Prep, blending East Coast prep with West Coast casual
  • Cotton polos alongside performance mesh styles, with polos roughly $85–$135 (about £65–£105)
  • J.T. Poston and Jake Knapp signed multi-year deals in January 2026, and UK YouTube coaches Peter Finch and Danny Maude are ambassadors

Pros:

  • Duties and taxes are shown and guaranteed at checkout through FlavorCloud, so nothing is due on delivery
  • Poston won the 2026 Memorial Tournament in a playoff in June 2026
  • A women's range alongside the menswear
  • Softer cotton options for golfers who don't want all-polyester polos

Cons:

  • No returns on international orders, except where the law requires them
  • A sprawling store of more than 13,000 listings to sift through
  • Cotton polos run warmer than technical polyester on hot days

Verdict:

Johnnie-O gives you the prep look with a stronger tour story and two well-known UK coaches on board. Duties settled at checkout make ordering simpler than with many US brands. The no-returns rule for international orders is the big risk, so treat every order as final.

Three Putt Golf: Best for golf streetwear off the course

Available on: threeputtgolfclothing.co.uk · Read our full Rhoback vs Three Putt comparison

Key Features:

  • A UK golf streetwear brand based in Leeds, selling four garments in six graphic designs: Contours, Happy Place, Tee Time, Reckless Driving, The Scenic Route and Three on the Green
  • Tees in 100% cotton at 305gsm, relaxed fit, S–2XL, £24.99–£30.99, in five colourways per design
  • Hoodies at 430gsm (56% cotton, 44% polyester), oversized drop-shoulder fit, S–2XL, £45.99–£54.99
  • Sweatshirts at 400gsm, £37.99–£47.99, and long-sleeve tees at 305gsm, £28.99–£35.99

Pros:

  • Priced in pounds, with free UK delivery
  • Tees from £24.99 and hoodies from £45.99, against Rhoback polos from about £73 and Q-Zips from about £98
  • Heavyweight hoodies and sweatshirts for the clubhouse and the drive home

Cons:

  • No polos, trousers or outerwear, so clubs with a collared-shirt dress code mean buying a polo elsewhere
  • Cotton streetwear, not technical kit: no wicking, stretch or weather claims
  • Returns within 14 days of delivery, emailing support first, with return postage at the customer's cost

Verdict:

Three Putt is not a like-for-like swap for a performance polo, and it would be wrong to pretend otherwise. It covers the off-course side of what Rhoback sells, in heavyweight cotton graphics priced well below Rhoback's Q-Zips. Wear it for the walk to the first tee and the drink afterwards, not as your on-course layer.

Criquet: Best for vintage-inspired cotton golf shirts

Available on: criquetshirts.com · Read our full Criquet review

Key Features:

  • An Austin, Texas brand built around the Players Shirt, a throwback polo with a long, crisp collar
  • The Classic Players Shirt is 100% Pima cotton at $98 (about £75) in October 2026
  • The Top-Shelf version is 92% Pima cotton and 8% spandex at $104 (about £80)
  • Most product listings say Made in Peru, and a large licensed college and MLS line sits at $128

Pros:

  • UK visitors see prices converted to sterling on its store
  • A 60-day returns and exchange window
  • Removable collar stays and a look that is nothing like a polyester polo

Cons:

  • Criquet won't cover return shipping on international orders
  • The slim cut catches people out, so size up if you're between sizes
  • Cotton runs warmer and holds sweat longer than synthetics on a hot day

Verdict:

Criquet is the alternative for golfers who want a shirt that looks nothing like modern performance wear. Cotton, a proper collar and no shouting logo make it a clubhouse favourite. It costs about the same as a Rhoback polo, but you pay to send anything back.

Birddogs: Best for built-in liner comfort

Available on: birddogs.com · Read our full Birddogs review

Key Features:

  • Built on one idea: a built-in liner across its shorts and trousers
  • NoFlop golf polos at $99 (about £76), with names like The Gimme King and Mulligan's Island
  • Shorts run $78–$94 (about £60–£72) and chinos $128 (about £98) in October 2026
  • Pitched on Shark Tank, walked away without a deal, and grew anyway

Pros:

  • The built-in liner is a genuine comfort idea, not a gimmick
  • Polos come in S–3XL
  • Flat, simple pricing across each product type

Cons:

  • Priced in dollars, with no published UK shipping rate or duty policy
  • A men's-only range, with no women's or kids' lines
  • Some buyers complain about fabric changes and slow service

Verdict:

Birddogs earns its place because the liner is a genuine idea and the polos sit near Rhoback's UK prices. Getting it is the problem, since the store lists only US delivery. Unless you're in the States, this is one to buy on a trip.

Quick Comparison Grid

Brand Best For Price Range Sustainability
Rhoback Activity-first performance polos and Q-Zips £££ Low (no certifications; recycled polyester in one tee)
Lululemon Technical performance bought and returned in the UK £££ Moderate (published targets, some scaled back in 2025)
Holderness & Bourne Understated premium shirts with tour pedigree ££££ Moderate (bluesign-certified dyes; WRAP, SAC and BSCI listed)
Turtleson Forgiving fits and bigger sizes £££ None published (no sustainability page)
Johnnie-O West Coast prep with tour credibility £££ Not a stated focus
Three Putt Golf Golf streetwear off the course ££ No recycled-content or eco claims; tees are 100% cotton
Criquet Vintage-inspired cotton golf shirts £££ Low (cotton-led; no certifications listed on products)
Birddogs Built-in liner comfort £££ None published (no certifications or environmental programme)

Summary

Rhoback built a business turning over more than $150 million a year on polos and Q-Zips that people genuinely rate. The fabric, the collar and the fit all earn their reviews.

The pressure points for UK golfers are cost and returns. Polos land at £73–£82 before $24 shipping and customs, and any return goes back to the US at your expense. Which alternative suits you depends on which of those bothers you most.

Lululemon fixes the buying experience outright. Holderness & Bourne and Turtleson fix the shirt, from tailored and trim to roomy and generous, but both need a Scottish pro shop. Johnnie-O settles duties at checkout but won't take international returns. Criquet swaps polyester for Pima cotton. Birddogs solves a comfort problem nobody else touches, if you are happy to order from the US. Three Putt covers the off-course side, priced in pounds with free UK delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions About Rhoback

What is Rhoback known for?

Rhoback is known for performance polos and its Q-Zip quarter-zips. The polos use a 92% polyester and 8% spandex fabric with four-way stretch, moisture-wicking and UPF 40–50+ sun protection. Every piece carries the dog logo and the Ridge trim on the back. The brand was founded in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2016 and is named after the Rhodesian Ridgeback.

Is Rhoback a golf brand?

Rhoback describes itself as activewear rather than golfwear. Its range takes in swim trunks, skorts, leggings and even dog bandanas. Golf is still where it made its name, thanks to its polos and Q-Zips, and it has run collaborations with the golf media brand No Laying Up. Its best-known products, the polos and Q-Zips, are built with golf in mind.

Does Rhoback ship to the UK?

Yes. In October 2026 Rhoback charged a flat $24 for international shipping, sent by USPS, with customs and VAT on top. UK visitors are shown a UK storefront with prices in pounds. The free shipping offer on orders over $150 applies to US addresses only, so it won't help a UK order.

Can I return Rhoback clothing from the UK?

Yes, but at your own cost. Free returns and exchanges within 30 days apply to US orders. Rhoback says it can't create return labels for carriers outside the US, so UK customers start a return in its portal and post the items back themselves. Final-sale items can't be returned. Its 14-day right of withdrawal is written for EU and EFTA addresses.

How much does Rhoback cost in pounds?

On Rhoback's UK storefront in October 2026, men's polos were mostly £73–£82 and men's Q-Zips £98–£113. Those prices come before the $24 international shipping charge and customs. That puts a Rhoback polo in the same bracket as Lululemon and Criquet, and well above graphic streetwear tees.

How does Rhoback clothing fit?

Rhoback calls its cut a "sharp comfort fit": athletic, but not tight. Verified buyers' fit meters on its product pages average true to size, and the Solid Performance Polo's meter sat at true to size across 847 reviews in October 2026. Some spandex-heavy Q-Zips run small, so check each product's fit meter. Core men's styles run S–3XL.

Where can I buy Rhoback clothing?

Rhoback sells direct through rhoback.com and from its first shop in Charlottesville, Virginia, which opened in November 2025. Collaboration pieces also appear through partners such as No Laying Up's online pro shop. The June 2026 investment from CHAMP is earmarked for new retail locations.
