Honest Sounder Golf Clothing Review 2026 | Three Putt Golf

We test golf apparel the way we play. Hard, social, and honest.

Folk's founder and Urban Golf's creator make organic cotton golf clothes, named after the clubs a young Seve played.
How We Review Golf Clothing Brands
Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.
Verdict: 8.0/10
Sounder is a London golf clothing brand founded by Cathal McAteer, who founded the fashion label Folk, and Urban Golf founder James Day. We liked the organic cotton polos made in Portugal from £75, the open-necked Capri Collar and a 4.7 Trustpilot score from 573 reviews.
It's a fuller wardrobe than the polos suggest: pleated Good Walk chinos, cotton-cashmere knits, Italian fleeces and, since September 2025, a fully waterproof jacket made with British specialist Protected Species. The name comes from the clubs Seve Ballesteros used in the late 1970s.
Where it falls short for UK golfers: sizes stop at XXL (a 46-inch chest), there's no women's line and returns run just 14 days at your cost. Outside seven golf clubs and resorts, you can't try it on.
This brand is best for golfers who want natural-fibre clothes with almost no logos, and want them to look as right in the pub as on the first tee.
Key Features
- Signature tech/fabric: 100% organic cotton polos made by a family-owned factory in Portugal, GOTS organic cotton chinos, Italian polar fleece and Japanese recycled ripstop
- Design language: Quiet heritage golf: engineered stripes, an open-collar polo, a small Sounder star and almost no logos
- Fit profile: Relaxed but tidy, cut for a full swing; ribbed hems let polos be worn untucked
- Range depth: Polos, knits, sweats, chinos, shorts, gilets, fleeces, a waterproof, caps, socks and belts; menswear and unisex only
Pros
- Organic cotton polos made in Portugal at £75–£85, with no performance gimmicks to pay for
- A strong customer record: 4.7/5 on Trustpilot from 573 reviews
- A full outfit, from chinos and shorts to a genuinely waterproof jacket
- Shipped from London: £5.95 delivery, free over £100, dispatch aimed within two working days, VAT included
Cons
- Sizes stop at XXL, and many newer styles start at S rather than XS
- No women's line at all
- Only 14 days to return, refunds exclude shipping, and you post items back yourself
- Almost impossible to try on: no shop, no big UK retailer, and Trendy Golf lists nothing today
Sounder Golf Pricing
Sounder prices like a London menswear label rather than a golf brand: £75–£85 for short-sleeve polos, £90–£140 for knits and sweats, £135–£145 for chinos and £275 for the waterproof. The UK site shows pounds with VAT included, and UK delivery is £5.95, free over £100.
| Category | Entry | Typical | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Polos/Tees | £40 | £80–£85 | £95 |
| Midlayers | £90 | £115–£125 | £140 |
| Trousers/Shorts | £105 | £135–£145 | £145 |
| Outerwear | £110 | £145–£185 | £275 |
| Caps | £40 | £40–£45 | £45 |
Full prices on the UK site: Classic Star T-shirt £40, Clean Lie Polo £75, Play Well Polo £80–£85, Fuzzy Polo £80, Capri Collar Polo £85, long-sleeve polos £85–£95, Good Look Crew £90, Raglan Star Sweat £115, Eden Knit £125, Chunky Knit £140, Drawcord Good Walk Short £105, Good Walk Chino £135–£145, Pac Mach Gilet £110, Pac Mach Jacket £145, Himalayas Fleece Jacket £170–£185, Sounder x Protected Species Waterproof Jacket £275, caps and beanies £40–£45, socks £18–£20, leather belt £50.
Comparison:
- Sounder vs Three Putt: Two UK brands doing different jobs. Sounder makes the organic polo, the chino and the waterproof. Three Putt sells only tees, long-sleeve tees, sweatshirts and hoodies: tees from £23.99, sweatshirts £37.99–£47.99, heavyweight hoodies £45.99–£54.99 and free UK delivery. Sounder's Raglan Star Sweat is £115.
- Sounder vs Manors Golf: London's two fashion-literate golf labels, both with 14-day returns. Manors, founded in 2019, blends British heritage with modern golfwear; Sounder leans harder into natural fibres, with every polo in organic cotton.
- Sounder vs Random Golf Club: Friends more than rivals: the two made a Sounder x Random Golf Club capsule of polos, caps and a holiday shirt, now sold out. RGC, founded by filmmaker Erik Anders Lang, sells community; Sounder sells the clothes.
- Sounder vs Galvin Green: Waterproof against waterproof. Sounder's jacket is £275 with a two-year waterproof guarantee. Galvin Green's Arlo is £359, and Galvin Green guarantees the waterproof fabric of its GORE-TEX and Pertex jackets with no time limit.
Promos/Outlet Notes: Discounting is anything but rare. Its autumn 2026 end-of-season sale promised up to 70% off, with more than half of in-stock listings marked down. On-sale examples: Play Well polos at £40 (were £80), Monterey Stripe polos at £40–£45 (were £85) and an Oat Himalayas Fleece at £95 (was £185). A trouser clearance puts most chinos at £75. Newsletter sign-ups get 15% off a first order, and Klarna is offered at checkout.
Verdict: 7.6/10
Full prices are fair for organic cotton made in Portugal, and the sale section is generous. The £5.95 delivery under £100 and short return window take a little shine off.
Sounder Golf Fit & Sizing (Usability)
Sounder's sizing guide says every piece is cut with "enough room for a full swing of the golf club". In practice that means relaxed tops with structured hems, and trousers with a deliberately cropped, tapered leg.
Notes:
- Polos/Tees: The Play Well is a slightly looser cut with a ribbed jersey waist, so it sits neatly untucked. The Capri is soft and relaxed; the Fuzzy polos are loose enough to layer over a tee.
- Midlayers: The cotton-cashmere Eden Knit is cut snug for layering, and both the Eden and the Chunky Knit have extended sleeves with thumbholes.
- Trousers/Shorts: The Good Walk Chino is pleated, looser and lower, tapering from the knee, with a 28–29-inch inside leg. The Slim version adds about an inch. Shorts sit just above the knee.
- Outerwear: The waterproof has "just enough stretch" for a driver swing, plus adjustable cuffs and hem. Himalayas fleeces use raglan sleeves for movement.
- Heat/Humidity: All-cotton polos breathe well but hold sweat longer than polyester, so a hot August round will feel it. The knits are for spring, autumn and links wind.
- Size Charts: One chest chart for tops (XS 34–36 in to XXL 44–46 in) and separate waist and leg charts for each trouser cut. The FAQ offers advice, measurements or photos by email.
Accessibility/Range:
- Tops are listed XS–XXL, but the Capri, Clean Lie and most Play Well polos come in S–XXL only.
- No 3XL, and trousers stop at a 38-inch waist.
- No women's line or women's sizing; socks are one size (UK 7–12) and the belt comes in M–XL.
Verdict: 7.4/10
Thoughtful cuts with clear measurements, and Trustpilot reviewers often praise the fit. But the range is narrow at both ends, and tall golfers should check that cropped inside leg first.
Sounder Golf Core Product Categories
Polos
The heart of the brand. The Play Well (£80–£85) is the bestseller, in organic jersey or piqué with an engineered rib collar. The Capri Collar (£85) drops the buttons for an open neck. The Clean Lie (£75) is new for 2026 and deliberately plain. The slub-cotton Fuzzy Polo (£80) has stripes that echo Fuzzy Zoeller's 1979 Masters outfit. Long-sleeve versions run £85–£95.
Verdict: 8.5/10

Knitwear & Sweats
Natural fibres again. The Good Look Crew (£90) and Chunky Knit (£140) are Pima cotton, the Eden Knit (£125) is a 90/10 cotton-cashmere blend, and the Raglan Star Sweat (£115) is organic cotton made in Portugal. The Big Mach long-sleeve polo sweat (£100) bridges polo and jumper.
Verdict: 8.2/10

Trousers & Shorts
The Good Walk Chino (£135–£145) was in the first Sounder collection: pleated, garment-dyed and made in Portugal in GOTS organic cotton ripstop, linen-cotton or moleskin. Drawcord, Slim and five-pocket cord versions follow. The Drawcord Good Walk Short (£105) is made in England by a small London studio. In the autumn 2026 sale, most chinos were cleared at £75.
Verdict: 7.8/10

Outerwear
Broader than it looks. The Sounder x Protected Species Waterproof Jacket (£275) is tested to 15,000mm, with laser-cut, heat-welded seams and YKK waterproof zips. Pac Mach pieces (£110–£145) are shower-resistant Japanese recycled ripstop that packs into its own bag. Himalayas fleeces (£170–£185) use Italian polar fleece.
Verdict: 8.1/10
Caps, Socks & Accessories
Cotton caps (£40), wool-cashmere beanies (£45), an English leather belt (£50) and Ivy Ellis crew socks (£20) knitted in the Scottish Highlands. The bigger statement pieces are gone: the £495 Grenson golf shoe, the £395 golf bag and the vintage club collection are all sold out. The Sounder golf ball is no longer listed.
Verdict: 7.4/10
Sounder Golf Materials & Tech (Construction, Sustainability)
Sounder's material position is simple: natural fibres by default, synthetics only where weather demands them. The product copy calls the Play Well "the antithesis of today's shiny synthetic fabrics", and the range backs that up.
Backend (manufacturing & standards):
- Polos come from a family-owned factory in Portugal that Sounder says it has used "since day one".
- Polos, sweats, chinos, cords, fleeces and socks are labelled made in Portugal; some shorts, the belt and the golf bag are made in England.
- The sustainability page says suppliers pay living wages, and its shipping partner offsets carbon emissions.
- The only certification named is GOTS organic cotton, on the ripstop chinos and shorts.
Application (on-garment features):
- Polos: 100% organic jersey, piqué or slub cotton, with engineered rib collars and ribbed hems.
- Knits: 12-gauge Pima cotton and 14-gauge cotton-cashmere, machine washable at cool temperatures.
- Chinos: 97% GOTS organic cotton with 3% spandex in the ripstop versions; garment-dyed.
- Outerwear: recycled polyester ripstop (Pac Mach), Italian polar fleece (Himalayas) and a 15,000mm waterproof with a two-year waterproof guarantee.
Verdict: 8.3/10
A clear, consistent materials philosophy, executed with real menswear craft. It loses a little for limited certification and for cotton's limits in serious heat.
Sounder Golf Customer Support
Sounder's service promise is refreshingly human: email and get "a personal response from a real person (and a real golfer)". Trustpilot reviewers back that up, often mentioning quick exchanges. The policies are tighter than the tone.
Channels & Hours
- Email help@soundergolf.com, with replies aimed at within one working day.
- On-site chat and a contact form; no phone number is listed.
- Orders ship Monday to Friday from the brand's London warehouse.
Policies
- Exchange or full refund within 14 days of receipt, unworn with tags; later returns are at Sounder's discretion.
- Refunds exclude all shipping costs, and you send items back yourself, ideally by insured, signed-for courier.
- Exchanges for a pricier item need a refund and a new order; replacement stock isn't guaranteed.
- Refunds are processed within 48 hours of the return arriving. The footer also promises a "no questions asked money back guarantee", so check the 14-day terms first.
Self-Serve
- A returns portal, tracking emails, a measured sizing guide and a short FAQ.
- UK delivery is £5.95, free over £100, by Royal Mail, DHL or Parcelforce, with dispatch aimed within 48 hours.
- No showroom: Sounder calls itself a digital business. Its stockists list covers Carnoustie, Gleneagles, Nairn, Skibo Castle, Cleeve Hill and Perranporth, plus Aloha in Marbella.
Verdict: 7.6/10
Human, fast and well reviewed. But a 14-day window, buyer-paid return postage and no phone line are tighter than a £275 waterproof deserves.
What Are Sounder Golf's Review Ratings from Review Sites?
(As of October 2026)
- Trustpilot: 4.7/5 from 573 reviews on a profile claimed since February 2021. Sounder invites its customers to review, though it hasn't replied to negative ones. Reviewers praise fabric, fit and fast exchanges; one calls it "My favorite UK golf clothing brand".
- On-site: No product-level reviews; the store relies on its Trustpilot widget instead.
- Media: Golf Monthly covered the March 2021 launch, including the Seve backstory. TheIndustry.fashion reported the launch and, in 2022, plans for a first store in Seoul with distributor Modern Works.
- Reach and content: About 7,400 Instagram followers, a long-running Players' Journal, and the This Golfing Life podcast, whose latest episode went out on 30 September 2026.
Synthesis:
The independent signal is strong and unusually deep for a small brand: hundreds of buyers rate it highly, mostly for quality and fit. Its media profile is modest, and that suits a brand built on word of mouth rather than ambassadors.
Is Sounder Golf a Good Golf Brand?
Yes. Sounder is one of the most credible independent labels in British golf: real fashion pedigree, organic cotton made in Portugal, a genuine signature in the Capri Collar and a customer record most rivals would envy. The trade-offs are narrow sizing, no women's line, a 14-day return window and almost nowhere to try it on. If you want golf-culture clothing from a UK brand with free UK delivery, Three Putt's golf tees (from £23.99) and heavyweight hoodies do the identity without the price tag. For more home-grown labels, see our guide to UK golf brands.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sounder Golf
Who owns Sounder Golf?
Sounder is an independent London brand created by Cathal McAteer and James Day. McAteer, a Scot, founded the fashion label Folk; Day founded Urban Golf, which Sounder describes as the UK's first indoor golf venue, and is a teacher and clubmaker. The brand launched its first full range in March 2021, and no outside owner is named.
Why is it called Sounder?
Sounder was the brand of golf clubs Seve Ballesteros used when he first emerged onto the world stage in the late 1970s. McAteer and Day revived the name for their clothing label as a nod to the style and creativity Seve brought to golf. The Sounder star logo appears, small, on most pieces.
Where is Sounder clothing made?
Mostly in Portugal. Sounder's polos are 100% organic cotton, made by a family-owned Portuguese factory it has worked with since launch, and its sweats, chinos, cords and fleeces are also labelled made in Portugal. Some shorts, the leather belt and the golf bag are made in England, and the Ivy Ellis socks come from the Scottish Highlands.
How much is Sounder delivery to the UK?
UK delivery is £5.95 by courier, and free on orders of £100 or more. Orders ship from London, Monday to Friday, and Sounder aims to dispatch within 48 hours. Because it's a UK business, VAT is included in the price and there are no import duties. International orders are £25, or free over £250.
How does Sounder sizing run?
Relaxed but tidy, cut to leave room for a full swing. Tops are listed XS–XXL (a 34–46-inch chest), though several current polos start at S. Good Walk chinos run from a 30 to a 38-inch waist with a cropped 28–29-inch inside leg. There's no women's sizing, and the FAQ offers measurements by email.
What is Sounder's returns policy?
You get 14 days from receipt to return unworn items with tags for an exchange or full refund, using Sounder's online returns portal. Refunds exclude all shipping costs, and you post items back to London yourself. Swapping to a pricier item means a refund and a new order. Refunds are processed within 48 hours of arrival.
Where can I buy Sounder in the UK?
Mainly at soundergolf.com. There's no Sounder shop, and the brand isn't sold at American Golf, Scottsdale Golf, Function18, Clubhouse Golf or GolfOnline. Trendy Golf is named as a stockist but lists nothing today. In person, its listed stockists are golf clubs and resorts, including Carnoustie, Gleneagles, Nairn, Skibo Castle, Cleeve Hill and Perranporth.
Does Sounder make waterproof golf clothing?
Yes, since September 2025. The Sounder x Protected Species Waterproof Jacket costs £275, is tested to 15,000mm and has laser-cut, heat-welded seams, YKK waterproof zips and a two-year waterproof guarantee. The lighter Pac Mach and Haar pieces are only shower-resistant, so they're for blustery days rather than proper rain.
Is Sounder Golf good quality?
The evidence says yes. Sounder holds 4.7/5 on Trustpilot from 573 reviews, and buyers repeatedly praise the fabrics, finish and fit. The materials back that up: organic cotton polos, Pima and cotton-cashmere knits, and chinos made in Portugal. The main limit is cotton itself, which holds sweat longer than polyester in real heat.
