Honest Backtee Golf Clothing Review 2026 | Three Putt Golf
Updated on: October 1, 2026 • ~11 min read
Author: Graeme
We test golf apparel the way we play. Hard, social, and honest.

Danish all-weather golf kit since 1994, a 4.9 Trustpilot score, and deep seasonal sales (most of the range was about 60% off in its autumn 2026 sale).
How We Review Golf Clothing Brands
Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.
Verdict: 7.3/10
Backtee is a Danish golf clothing brand from Silkeborg, founded in 1994 and built around four weather categories: sun, wind, cold and rain. We liked the stretchy, sensibly cut kit, men's sizes to 4XL with two trouser leg lengths, 15,000mm rain trousers and a 4.9/5 Trustpilot score from 491 reviews.
It's also a bigger women's brand than you'd guess. More of the in-stock range is women's than men's, from polos to dresses and skorts.
Where it falls short for UK golfers: there's no UK stockist, the webshop charges in euros, orders under €150 pay a €25 non-EU delivery fee, and import charges are yours on arrival. Returns are 14 days at your cost, and the men's rainwear is down to one pair of trousers.
This brand is best for golfers who want function-first Scandinavian layers at sale prices and don't mind ordering from Denmark.

Key Features
- Signature tech/fabric: 3-layer 4Way Stretch Pro rainwear (15,000mm waterproof, 15,000 breathability), OSM Shield midlayers, hollow-yarn First Skin base layers and 88/12 poly-spandex polos with UPF 50
- Design language: Quiet Scandinavian function: navy, black, white and muted colours, small logos, and a shop you can browse by weather
- Fit profile: Regular, true-to-size cuts according to the product-page fit guides, with centimetre size charts
- Range depth: Polos, sleeveless tops, base layers, midlayers, windbreakers, hybrid jackets, gilets, trousers, shorts, skorts, dresses, rainwear and winter accessories
Pros
- A 4.9/5 Trustpilot score from 491 reviews, 92% of them five-star
- Inclusive sizing: men's tops to 4XL, men's trousers in EU 46–62 with 31" and 34" legs
- A women's range at least as deep as the men's, including dresses, skorts and capris
- Real spec sheets on product pages, from fabric blends to waterproof ratings
Cons
- No UK stockist, euro-only pricing and import charges paid on delivery
- 14-day returns at your own cost unless you join Club BACKTEE
- Men's rainwear is one pair of trousers: there's no men's rain jacket
- Deep markdowns on almost everything make the list prices feel theoretical, and the styling is very safe
Backtee Pricing
Backtee's list prices sit in the upper mid-market: €68.95 for a typical polo and €164.95 for its rain trousers. A UK visitor is shown euros. The shipping policy charges €25 (about £21) on non-EU orders under €150 (about £128), with free delivery above that.
| Category | Entry | Typical | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Polos/Tops | £41 | £59 | £71 |
| Midlayers & Base Layers | £53 | £71–£94 | £118 |
| Trousers/Shorts | £71 | £77–£94 | £118 |
| Outerwear & Rain | £71 | £94–£141 | £176 |
| Hats & Accessories | £18 | £24–£30 | £59 |
Approximate GBP equivalents at about €1.17 to the pound, at full list price and before delivery or import charges: men's polos €54.95–€82.95 (£47–£71), women's polos €54.95–€75.95 (£47–£65), women's sleeveless polo tops €47.95–€68.95 (£41–£59), First Skin base layers €61.95 (£53), other base layers €82.95–€95.95 (£71–£82), Shield midlayers €89.95–€109.95 (£77–£94), knitted windbreaker sweaters €137.95 (£118), Riise merino knits €123.95–€137.95 (£106–£118), Light Weight Performance shorts €82.95 (£71) and trousers €110 (£94), Hybrid shorts and skorts €89.95 (£77), Hybrid trousers €109.95 (£94), Thermal Hybrid trousers €137.95 (£118), Packable Shield windshirts €82.95–€95.95 (£71–£82), Stretch Windbreaker jacket €109.95 (£94), Hybrid jackets and 4Way Stretch Pro Rain Trousers €164.95 (£141), women's 4Way Stretch Pro Rain Jacket €205.95 (£176), hats €20.95–€27.95 (£18–£24), elastic belts €34.95 (£30), practice ball bag €68.95 (£59) and ECCO golf shoes €164.95–€260.95 (£141–£223).
Comparison:
- Backtee vs Three Putt: Different jobs. Backtee layers you for a cold, wet crosswind and ships from Denmark in euros. Three Putt is a UK brand with tees from £24.99, heavyweight hoodies £45.99–£54.99 and free UK delivery. Backtee for the weather, Three Putt for the identity.
- Backtee vs Galvin Green: Scandinavia's two all-weather specialists at very different money. Galvin Green's GORE-TEX Arlo jacket is £359, and its waterproof fabric is guaranteed with no time limit. Backtee's 15,000mm rain trousers list at about £141, but it has no men's rain jacket at all.
- Backtee vs Oscar Jacobson: Nordic club golf, two ways. Oscar Jacobson brings Swedish tailoring and a smarter clubhouse look. Backtee is plainer and more technical, sorted by weather rather than by occasion.
- Backtee vs KJUS: Ski-bred luxury tech against Danish mid-market practicality. KJUS is the premium technical layer; Backtee is the sensible everyday kit, often heavily discounted in its sales.
Promos/Outlet Notes: Its 2026 Summer Sale, billed as 30–70% off everything, ran until 4 October 2026, and big seasonal sales are a regular feature. More than nine in ten in-stock products were marked down, most by about 60%. That puts the Focus Polo on sale at €27.95 (about £24) and the rain trousers at €65.95 (about £56). Only the new Hybrid lines, some trousers and the socks stay at full price. There's also a permanent outlet section, and free Club BACKTEE membership adds early sale access and member offers.
Verdict: 7.5/10
At list price, Backtee is fair rather than cheap, and the €25 delivery fee and import charges make small UK orders poor value. At sale prices, it's one of the cheapest ways into proper Scandinavian performance kit.
Backtee Fit & Sizing (Usability)
Backtee cuts for comfort and layering rather than for a slim, tour-style look. The fit indicator on its polos, trousers, hybrid jackets and windbreakers sits on "true to size", and product pages link to centimetre size guides.
Notes:
- Polos/Tops: Regular fit with stretch. The size guide measures chest armpit to armpit, doubled, so check it against a polo you own.
- Midlayers: Windbreaker sweaters are marked true to size and are built to go over a polo. The Riise merino knits are cut "relatively slim", so size up if you layer underneath.
- Trousers/Shorts: Men's trousers and shorts run EU 46–62, and the Light Weight Performance trousers come in 31" and 34" legs. Backtee says its size 50 equals a 32" jeans waist.
- Outerwear: Rain trousers come in 31" and 34" legs and can be shortened by 5cm without touching the waterproof zips.
- Heat/Humidity: The 88/12 poly-spandex polos and quick-dry, non-iron trousers handle summer. The DNA is still wind, cold and rain.
- Size Charts: Separate centimetre guides for men's tops, men's bottoms and women's tops.
Accessibility/Range:
- Men's tops run S–4XL; women's tops XS–3XL.
- Women's trousers, shorts and capris run EU 36–48 in one leg length.
- Hats and mittens are one size; belts come in M/L.
Verdict: 7.7/10
Wide size runs, two leg lengths and honest fit guidance are genuinely useful. EU trouser sizing takes a minute to convert, and with 14-day paid returns from Denmark, you'll want to get it right first time.
Backtee Core Product Categories
Polos
The biggest category by far: around 50 men's polo colourways and 60 women's polos and sleeveless tops were in stock. The men's Focus Polo is typical: 88% polyester / 12% spandex, UPF 50, recycled fibres and a regular fit at €68.95 (about £59). Designs are solids, contrast panels and quiet stripes. Nothing here will start a conversation on the first tee, which is rather the point.
Verdict: 7.5/10

Midlayers, Knits & Base Layers
The cold-weather layers are where Backtee feels most at home. Shield midlayers (€89.95–€109.95) use an OSM Shield finish that's lightly water-repellent and resists odour and stains. Knitted windbreaker sweaters (€137.95) hide a windproof lining. First Skin base layers (€61.95) use hollow yarn for warmth, and Riise merino knits in Italian extra fine merino round off the smart end.
Verdict: 7.6/10

Trousers, Shorts & Skorts
The everyday heroes. Light Weight Performance trousers (€110) are 88/12 poly-spandex, quick-drying and non-iron, with an elastic back waist. The new Hybrid trousers (€109.95), shorts and skorts (€89.95) are among the few full-price lines in the shop. For winter, the Thermal Hybrid trousers (€137.95) add a brushed inside, 4-way stretch and wind- and water-repellent fabric.
Verdict: 7.9/10

Windwear, Rain & Outerwear
Wind is the deepest part of the range: packable 80g Shield windshirts, Stretch Windbreaker jackets and vests, padded Hybrid jackets and gilets. Rain is thinner. The 4Way Stretch Pro Rain Trousers are excellent on paper: 3-layer, 15,000mm waterproof, long leg zips and waterproof pockets. But the men's rainwear section holds just those trousers, and the only rain jacket is the women's (€205.95). The men's 4way Stretch Performance Jacket is rated 5,000mm, which is shower-proof territory.
Verdict: 7.2/10
Ladies' Collection
Backtee's women's range is more complete than most men-first brands manage. Beyond 60-odd polos and sleeveless tops, it has sports dresses (€95.95), skorts (€89.95), capri trousers (€95.95), Organic Casual and Organic Windbreaker sweaters, hybrid gilets and the brand's only rain jacket. Sizes run XS–3XL, and the trousers are cut on their own EU 36–48 scale.
Verdict: 8.0/10
Shoes & Accessories
Backtee doesn't make shoes: it resells ECCO golf shoes (Street 720, LT1, Street Vibe and C4) at €164.95–€260.95 list, and only one of eight styles was in stock. Accessories lean wintry: thermal hoods, beanies, neck warmers, mittens, elastic belts, a towel and a practice ball bag. The one summer cap, the rain hat and the umbrella were sold out.
Verdict: 6.8/10
Backtee Materials & Tech (Construction, Sustainability)
Backtee publishes useful spec detail: fabric blends, waterproof ratings and care instructions on its product pages. What it doesn't publish is where things are made.
Backend (manufacturing & standards):
- Designed in Silkeborg, Denmark; product pages don't state a country of manufacture.
- Backtee says its products are made only in amfori BSCI-certified factories, and its CSR policy rules out partners that aren't BSCI-certified.
- Some polos, including the Focus and women's Zip Golf Polo, use recycled fibres. There are no OEKO-TEX or bluesign claims.
- The Riise merino knits are described as Danish design, produced in Europe.
Application (on-garment features):
- Rain: 4Way Stretch Pro trousers and women's jacket: 3-layer construction, 15,000mm waterproof, 15,000 breathability, waterproof zips.
- Wind: Stretch Windbreakers are windproof and water-repellent; knitted windbreaker sweaters (50/50 acrylic/cotton) have a polyester/Lycra windproof lining.
- Midlayers: OSM Shield finish, lightly water-repellent, odour- and stain-repellent.
- Base layers: First Skin hollow-yarn fabric that traps air for insulation.
- Polos/Trousers: 88/12 poly-spandex, UPF 50 on the Focus Polo, Flexfit elasticated waists on trousers.
Verdict: 7.4/10
Honest, useful spec sheets and a stated factory standard. No country of origin and no third-party fabric certifications keep it short of the top tier.
Backtee Customer Support
Danish customers rate Backtee's service highly, praising fast delivery and quick replies. UK customers get the same team, but on Danish working hours and EU-style terms.
Channels & Hours
- Phone +45 87 68 28 28 and email webshop@backtee.com, Monday to Friday 8:00–14:00 Danish time (7:00–13:00 UK time).
- A contact form, plus a store and showroom in Silkeborg with click-and-collect.
Policies
- A 14-day right to withdraw. You pay return postage, and returns can't go to parcel shops or lockers.
- Size exchanges within 14 days via the returns portal: you post the item back, and the replacement ships free.
- Faulty goods can be claimed for up to two years under Danish law.
- Site banners promise a "30 day return policy" the written terms don't match. Free Club BACKTEE membership adds free returns and an extended return window.
Self-Serve
- Orders ship by GLS within 1–3 working days (3–5 during sales). UK delivery times aren't stated; EU delivery takes 2–7 business days.
- Non-EU orders under €150 pay €25. Import duties and taxes are charged when the parcel arrives, and you pay them.
- Product pages advertise free shipping over €100, which doesn't match the €150 threshold in the shipping policy.
Verdict: 7.2/10
The service record is excellent, but it's built for Denmark. Short weekday hours, paid returns and duties on the doorstep add friction for UK buyers.
What Are Backtee's Review Ratings from Review Sites?
(As of October 2026)
- Trustpilot: 4.9/5 from 491 reviews on Backtee's claimed profile, with 92% five-star and 280 reviews in the last 12 months. The profile covers the Danish webshop, and reviewers mostly praise fast delivery.
- On-site: Product pages carry the same Trustpilot badge ("Rated 4.9/5") rather than item-level reviews, so there's little product-specific feedback to read.
- Tour and Sponsorship: Backtee's ambassador page lists DP World Tour winners Joachim B. Hansen and Morten Ørum Madsen. Backtee has sponsored Made in Denmark (now Made in HimmerLand) and the ECCO Tour, and dressed Danish national teams under a 2018 deal with the Danish Golf Union.
- Reach: Around 900 Instagram followers, and we couldn't find a review in the UK golf press. Backtee is well known in Denmark and barely known here.
Synthesis:
Backtee's buyers love the service and come back. But that evidence comes almost entirely from Danish customers, so it says more about the Silkeborg operation than the UK experience.
Is Backtee a Good Golf Brand?
Yes, for the right golfer. Backtee is a well-run Danish all-weather brand with sensible fits, wide sizes, a strong women's range and a superb service record at home. But UK buyers face euros, a €25 fee on smaller orders, import charges on arrival and paid 14-day returns. The men's rain range is also thinner than its reputation. If you'd rather keep it simple with a UK brand and free UK delivery, Three Putt's golf tees and heavyweight hoodies cover the off-course half of the wardrobe. Frequently Asked Questions About Backtee
Who owns Backtee?
Backtee was founded in Silkeborg in 1994 by Bent Krebs, with JYSK founder Lars Larsen a co-owner from the start. Lars Larsen Group later held more than 95% of the company. In autumn 2020 it handed ownership to managing director Thomas Knudsen, and Backtee ApS is now owned by his holding company, Riise Holding ApS.
Where is Backtee clothing made?
Backtee designs its clothing in Silkeborg, Denmark, but its product pages don't name a country of manufacture. The brand says it only uses amfori BSCI-certified factories, an audit scheme for working conditions. The Riise merino knits it sells are described as Danish design, produced in Europe.
Does Backtee ship to the UK?
Yes. The webshop shows UK visitors euro prices and ships by GLS. Non-EU orders under €150 (about £128) pay a €25 delivery fee, and larger orders ship free. Import duties and taxes are charged when the parcel arrives and are yours to pay. Orders leave within 1–3 working days, or 3–5 during sales.
How does Backtee sizing run?
True to size, according to the fit indicator on its product pages, with regular, comfortable cuts. Men's tops run S–4XL and women's XS–3XL. Trousers use EU sizing (men's 46–62, women's 36–48), with 31" and 34" legs on the men's performance trousers. Backtee says its size 50 equals a 32" jeans waist.
Is Backtee good quality?
The evidence is good: detailed fabric specs on every product, 15,000mm rain trousers, and a 4.9/5 Trustpilot score from 491 reviews. The catch is that the reviews are mostly about service and delivery from Danish buyers. There's very little independent, product-level testing in the UK press.
What is Backtee's returns policy?
The written terms give a 14-day right to withdraw, with return postage paid by you, despite site banners mentioning 30 days. Size exchanges also run for 14 days, and the replacement ships free. Free Club BACKTEE membership promises free returns and an extended return window. Faulty goods can be claimed for up to two years.
Does Backtee make waterproof golf clothing?
Yes, but the rain range is small right now. The 4Way Stretch Pro Rain Trousers (men's and women's) and women's rain jacket are 3-layer, 15,000mm waterproof pieces. There's no men's rain jacket; the men's 4way Stretch Performance Jacket is rated 5,000mm, so treat it as a shower-proof layer.
Can I buy Backtee in a UK golf shop?
We couldn't find a UK stockist: American Golf, Scottsdale Golf, Function18, Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline don't list it. In Europe, Golf House in Germany carries a Backtee range. For UK buyers, the backtee.com webshop is the realistic route, with euro pricing and import charges on delivery.
