Sounder Golf vs Three Putt: Organic Cotton Golfwear or Golf Streetwear
Updated on: October 2, 2026 • ~10 min read

We test golf apparel the way we play. Hard, social, and honest.

Two UK golf brands that barely overlap. Sounder makes organic cotton polos, chinos and a proper waterproof for the round, and Three Putt makes heavyweight graphic streetwear for everything around it.
How We Review Golf Clothing Brands
Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.
Verdict and Quick Pick
Sounder is a London golf clothing brand selling organic cotton polos made in Portugal from £75, pleated chinos, knits and a £275 waterproof. Three Putt is a Leeds golf streetwear brand selling tees, long-sleeves, sweatshirts and hoodies from £23.99, with free UK delivery. Choose Sounder to play in, and Three Putt for off the course.
Best for golf style off the course, for less: Three Putt. Heavyweight cotton tees and hoodies with golf graphics, from £23.99 to £51.99, with free UK delivery. It is casual wear for the clubhouse, the range and the pub, not technical kit.
Best for playing in natural fibres: Sounder. Organic cotton polos that pass a collared dress code, pleated chinos and a 15,000mm waterproof with a two-year guarantee. Expect London menswear prices, and £5.95 delivery on orders under £100.

Brand Overview
Three Putt Golf
Three Putt is a UK golf streetwear brand based in Leeds. The range is deliberately narrow: tees, long-sleeve tees, sweatshirts and hoodies.
Each comes in six graphic designs: Contours, Happy Place, Tee Time, Reckless Driving, The Scenic Route and Three on the Green. The idea is golf culture you can wear anywhere, not a full on-course wardrobe.
That brings honest limits. There are no polos, trousers, shorts, outerwear, waterproofs or caps, and no women's-specific range. If your club has a collared-shirt dress code, you will need a polo from elsewhere.
Sounder Golf
Sounder is a London golf clothing brand, launched in March 2021 by Cathal McAteer and James Day. McAteer founded the fashion label Folk. Day founded Urban Golf, which Sounder calls the UK's first indoor golf venue. The name comes from the clubs a young Seve Ballesteros used in the late 1970s.
The range is a full men's golf wardrobe in a quiet, natural-fibre style: polos, tees, knits, sweats, pleated chinos, shorts, fleeces and light jackets. Since September 2025 it has included a fully waterproof jacket made with the British specialist Protected Species. There is no women's line.
Sounder's FAQ says it is a digital business with no shop or showroom, and its stockists are golf clubs and resorts such as Carnoustie Golf Links, Gleneagles, Nairn and Cleeve Hill. Buyers rate it highly: Trustpilot showed 4.7 from 573 reviews in October 2026, though Sounder hadn't replied to its negative ones.

Key Features and Fabrics
Three Putt Golf
- Tees: 100% cotton, 260gsm, relaxed fit, S–3XL, five colourways per design.
- Long-sleeve tees: 280gsm, 85% cotton / 15% polyester, loose drop-shoulder fit, S–2XL.
- Sweatshirts: 400gsm cotton crewneck, regular fit, S–2XL.
- Hoodies: 430gsm, 56% cotton / 44% polyester, oversized drop-shoulder fit, S–2XL, four colourways per design.
These are heavyweight casual garments, not technical performance wear. Don't expect moisture-wicking, stretch fabric or weather protection.
Sounder Golf
- Polos: 100% organic cotton, made in Portugal by a family-owned factory Sounder has used since launch. The Play Well's ribbed hem sits neatly untucked, and the Capri Collar has an open, buttonless neck.
- Tees and sweats: the Classic Star T-shirt and the Raglan Star Sweat are also 100% organic cotton, made in Portugal.
- Knitwear: Pima cotton in the Good Look Crew and Chunky Knit, and a 90/10 cotton-cashmere blend in the Eden Knit.
- Chinos: the pleated Good Walk Chino comes in garment-dyed GOTS organic cotton ripstop (97%, with 3% spandex), as well as linen-cotton and moleskin. It is made in Portugal.
- Outerwear: shower-resistant Pac Mach pieces in Japanese recycled ripstop, Himalayas fleeces in Italian polar fleece, and the Sounder x Protected Species Waterproof Jacket. That one is tested to 15,000mm, with heat-welded seams and a two-year waterproof guarantee.
Most Sounder product pages say where the garment is made, but none gives a fabric weight.

Sounder prices are full prices on soundergolf.com in October 2026, shown to UK visitors in pounds with VAT included. A Three Putt tee and sweatshirt together cost £58.98–£79.98. Sounder's Classic Star T-shirt and Raglan Star Sweat cost £155, though an order that size ships free.
Price Verdict
Three Putt is much cheaper wherever the ranges overlap: tees at £23.99–£29.99 against £40–£60, and sweatshirts at £34.99–£49.99 against £115–£120. Sounder's premium buys organic cotton made in Portugal, and its polos and chinos have no Three Putt equivalent. A full-price polo and chinos cost £210–£230.
Fit and Sizing
Three Putt Golf
Three Putt sizes run S–3XL on tees and S–2XL on everything else. Tees have a relaxed fit, long-sleeves a loose drop shoulder and sweatshirts a regular fit. Hoodies are oversized with a drop shoulder, so size down if you want a closer look.
Sounder Golf
Sounder's sizing guide says every piece leaves "enough room for a full swing of the golf club". Tops share one chest chart, from XS (34–36in) to XXL (44–46in). Several polos, including the Capri Collar, Clean Lie and most Play Wells, come in S–XXL only.
The Play Well is a slightly looser cut, and the Good Walk Chino is pleated, looser and lower, tapering from the knee. Trousers run from a 30 to a 38-inch waist, with a deliberately cropped inside leg of about 28–29 inches. The Slim Good Walk adds roughly an inch. There is no 3XL, and no women's line or women's sizing.
Fit Verdict
Sounder wins on golf fit, with tops cut for a full swing and a waist and inside-leg chart for each chino. Three Putt's cuts are roomier, made for wearing rather than swinging, but its tees go up to 3XL. Tall golfers should check Sounder's cropped inside leg first, and neither brand has a women's fit.
Style and Versatility
Three Putt Golf
Three Putt is golf streetwear: golf-themed graphics on heavyweight fabric, cut in relaxed and oversized shapes. A hoodie works for a casual range session, the pub after a round or a weekend layer. It is not the right shirt for a members' competition at a traditional club, so check your golf dress code first.
Sounder Golf
Sounder is quiet heritage golf: engineered stripes, muted colours, an open-collar polo and a small Sounder star in place of a chest logo. Its product copy calls the Play Well "the antithesis of today's shiny synthetic fabrics".
Even Sounder is candid about dress codes. Its own copy says it loves wearing its collarless Stripe T-shirt on the course "even at the risk of a dressing down from the committee". Its polos pass a collared-shirt rule; its tees, like Three Putt's, may not.
Style Verdict
Sounder dresses the round and the pub in the same outfit, and it reads as menswear rather than golf kit. Three Putt is louder about the game, with graphics that say "golfer" from across the bar, for a fraction of the price. For one smart outfit at a traditional club, choose Sounder. For golf identity at the weekend, choose Three Putt.

Quality, Durability and Sustainability
Three Putt Golf
Three Putt's quality story is weight. Tees are 260gsm cotton, sweatshirts 400gsm and hoodies 430gsm, built for warmth and structure rather than airflow. They are casual garments, so there is no wicking, stretch or weather protection to judge them on. On sustainability, Three Putt makes no recycled-content or eco claims. Its tees are 100% cotton.
Sounder Golf
Sounder's quality story is materials and making. Its polos come from a family-owned Portuguese factory it has used "since day one", and its chinos are garment-dyed with a triple-seam construction. The waterproof carries a two-year waterproof guarantee, a confident promise at £275.
On sustainability, Sounder has more to show. Its polos, tees and sweats are organic cotton, and its ripstop chinos use GOTS organic cotton, the only certification it names. Its sustainability page says suppliers pay living wages and its shipping partner offsets carbon emissions. Those points are the brand's own statements.
Cotton has limits: all-cotton polos hold sweat longer than polyester on hot days. For rain, Sounder's waterproof is the answer, while Three Putt makes no outerwear. Our guide to the best waterproof golf clothing covers other options.
Quality Verdict
Sounder wins on materials and sustainability: organic cotton made in Portugal, one named certification and a guaranteed waterproof. Three Putt wins on published fabric weights and heavyweight cotton for casual wear, and it makes no green claims to weigh up.
Customer Support and Returns
Three Putt Golf
Delivery is free across the UK. Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery. Email support@threeputtgolfclothing.co.uk first, and note that you pay the return postage. Support is by email.
Sounder Golf
Sounder ships from London with VAT included, so UK buyers have nothing extra to pay on delivery. Its shipping and returns page sets out the rest.
- Delivery: £5.95 per UK order by courier, free on orders over £100. Sounder aims to dispatch within 48 hours, Monday to Friday, from its London warehouse.
- Returns: 14 days from receipt, for an exchange or a full refund. Items must be unworn and in their original condition, with packaging and swing tags. Later returns are at Sounder's discretion.
- Return costs: refunds exclude all shipping costs, and you send the parcel back yourself after logging it on an online returns portal. Sounder recommends an insured, signed-for courier, as it isn't responsible for parcels lost in transit.
- Exchanges: a cheaper swap gets the difference refunded; a pricier one means a refund and a new order.
- Refunds: processed within 48 hours of the return arriving.
- Contact: help@soundergolf.com, with replies aimed within one working day, plus on-site chat and a contact form. There is no phone number.
One wrinkle: Sounder's site footer promises a "no questions asked money back guarantee". The written policy sets 14 days, so treat that as the working limit.
Support Verdict
Three Putt wins on delivery, which is free across the UK, against Sounder's £5.95 on orders under £100. Returns are close to a tie. Both give 14 days, and neither policy promises free returns. Sounder's service is the more developed, with exchanges, a returns portal, on-site chat and a published reply target. Three Putt keeps it simple, by email.
Our Pick
Buy Sounder for golf clothes to play in that also look right in the pub. Start with a £75–£85 organic cotton polo and the £135–£145 Good Walk chinos, and add the £275 waterproof if you play through winter. Order over £100 to skip the delivery charge, and check the cropped inside leg before buying trousers.
Buy Three Putt for golf style off the course and on relaxed dry days, with free UK delivery. Heavyweight tees from £23.99 and hoodies under £52 cover the clubhouse and the drive home. A sweatshirt or long-sleeve tee rounds it out. Golfers at collared-shirt clubs will still need a polo from elsewhere.
The two sit together easily: a Sounder polo and chinos for the round, and a Three Putt hoodie for the walk to the bar. For more home-grown labels, see our guide to UK golf brands.

Frequently Asked Questions About Three Putt vs Sounder Golf
Is Three Putt a good alternative to Sounder Golf?
Only off the course. Three Putt sells heavyweight tees, long-sleeves, sweatshirts and hoodies from £23.99 with free UK delivery. There are no polos, trousers or outerwear, and nothing is built for wicking, stretch or rain. It can't replace Sounder for a round, but it costs far less for clubhouse and weekend wear.
Which is better on the course?
Sounder, clearly. Its organic cotton polos pass a collared dress code, its chinos leave room to swing, and its £275 Protected Species jacket is tested to 15,000mm. Three Putt's cotton tees and hoodies suit a relaxed round on a dry day, but offer no technical performance and no collar.
Which is better value?
Where the ranges overlap, Three Putt is far cheaper: £23.99–£29.99 tees against Sounder's £40–£60, and sweatshirts from £34.99 against £115. Sounder's polos and chinos are fair money for organic cotton made in Portugal, with no Three Putt equivalent.
How do the fits and sizes differ?
Sounder cuts for a full swing, with tops listed XS–XXL (a 34–46-inch chest), though several polos start at S. Its chinos run from a 30 to a 38-inch waist with a cropped leg. Three Putt's cuts are roomier: relaxed tees in S–3XL, and oversized drop-shoulder hoodies, regular-fit sweatshirts and loose long-sleeves in S–2XL.
Which has better UK delivery and returns?
Three Putt has the better delivery, free across the UK, while Sounder charges £5.95 below £100. Returns are close. Both give 14 days, and you cover the trip back: Sounder's refunds exclude shipping costs, and Three Putt customers pay return postage after emailing support. Sounder adds exchanges and a returns portal.
Is Sounder more sustainable than Three Putt?
Yes, on what each brand publishes. Sounder uses organic cotton for its polos, tees and sweats, and names GOTS organic cotton for its ripstop chinos. It also says its suppliers pay living wages and its shipping is carbon-offset, though those are the brand's own statements. Three Putt makes no recycled-content or eco claims. Its tees are 100% cotton.
Do Sounder or Three Putt make women's golf clothing?
Not as a dedicated range. Sounder has no women's line or women's sizing. Three Putt has no women's-specific range either. A golfer who wants clothing cut for women, on or off the course, will be better served by a brand that designs for them.
