Honest Sun Mountain Golf Clothing Review 2026 | Three Putt Golf

Updated on: October 1, 2026 • ~11 min read

Author: Graeme

We test golf apparel the way we play. Hard, social, and honest.

The Montana bag maker makes rainwear too. Good rainwear, at a fair price, if you can get hold of it.

How We Review Golf Clothing Brands

Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.

Verdict: 7.4/10

Sun Mountain is the Montana golf bag and trolley maker that also makes some of golf's best-value rainwear. We liked the seam-sealed Monsoon waterproofs (£79.99 jacket, £59.99 trousers in the UK), the two-year waterproof guarantee on rainwear, and a premium Cirque line that Breaking Eighty ranks just below Galvin Green.

The clothing line is bigger than most people realise: more than 80 men's and women's styles in the US, with an autumn 2026 drop that landed in late September.

Where it falls short for UK golfers: very little of it reaches Britain. Sun Mountain's own store ships only to the US and Canada, and most UK golf shops stock its bags rather than its clothing. The independent UK site sells four garments, all in US sizes, and none of the better Stratus or Cirque II waterproofs.

This brand is best for golfers who want a cheap, properly seam-sealed waterproof to keep in the bag, and don't mind a plain American cut.

Sun Mountain not the right brand for you? Check out our comprehensive list of the best Sun Mountain alternatives.

Key Features

  • Signature tech/fabric: Tiered, fully seam-sealed rainwear: packable 15K Monsoon, 2.5-layer Stratus and three-layer 20K/30K Cirque II
  • Design language: Plain, function-first American outdoor style: solid colours, small logos, engineered rather than fashionable
  • Fit profile: A relaxed American cut with room for layers, sold in US sizes, so most British golfers should size down one
  • Range depth: Rainwear, wind jackets, vests, quarter-zips, hoodies, polos and hats in the US; four garments on the UK site

Pros

  • Waterproof bag-making know-how applied to rainwear: every rain piece is fully seam-sealed
  • The UK Monsoon set is cheap for a proper waterproof: £79.99 for the jacket and £59.99 for the trousers
  • A two-year waterproof guarantee on rainwear, plus one year on zips, hems and seams
  • Strong reviews: Breaking Eighty scored the Cirque line 9.2/10, and the Monsoon jacket averages 4.64/5 on-site

Cons

  • The UK range is four garments: Monsoon jacket, pullover and trousers, plus the Silvertip polo
  • sunmountain.com won't ship to the UK, and few UK golf retailers stock the clothing (Pin High Golf lists the Monsoon jacket and trousers)
  • US sizing catches people out: the UK retailer says a UK large usually fits a US medium
  • No women's clothing or hats on the UK site, and no sustainability or country-of-origin information

Sun Mountain Golf Clothing Pricing

Sun Mountain prices its clothing as value technical gear. The independent UK retailer at sunmountaingolf.co.uk sells in pounds with VAT included. Everything else is US-only, in dollars, on a store that doesn't ship here.

Category Entry Typical Premium
Polos £34.99 £65–£69 £73
Midlayers & Vests £38 £92–£108 £154
Waterproof Trousers £59.99 £123 £238
Rain Jackets & Tops £77.99 £138 £254
Hats £31 £31 £35

UK prices from sunmountaingolf.co.uk: Monsoon jacket £79.99, Monsoon short-sleeve pullover £77.99, Monsoon trousers £59.99, Silvertip polo £34.99. US-only prices, shown above as approximate GBP equivalents at about $1.30 to the pound: polos $84.99–$94.99, Gallatin hoodie $49.99, Tech quarter-zip $119.99, All Day vest $139.99, Knockdown vest $199.99, Stratus trousers $159.99, Cirque II trousers $309.99, Stratus jacket $179.99, Cirque II jacket $329.99, hats $40–$45.

Comparison:

  • Sun Mountain vs Three Putt: Different jobs. Sun Mountain makes the waterproof that lives in your bag; Three Putt makes what you wear under it. It's a UK brand with tees from £24.99, heavyweight hoodies at £45.99–£54.99 and free UK delivery.
  • Sun Mountain vs Galvin Green: The benchmark. Galvin Green's GORE-TEX outerwear typically runs £249–£349+, with a lifetime waterproof guarantee and wide UK stockists. Breaking Eighty rated the Cirque just below it at under half the price, but you can't buy a Cirque here.
  • Sun Mountain vs Zero Restriction: Two American rain specialists that are hard to find in UK golf shops. Zero Restriction aims far higher (£468 for the Z2000 jacket, guaranteed waterproof for life); Sun Mountain is the budget option, if a Monsoon is all you need.
  • Sun Mountain vs FootJoy: The high-street alternative. FootJoy's HydroLite X jacket is around £110 with a 20,000mm rating and stocked by most big UK golf retailers. The Monsoon is cheaper at £79.99, but only a couple of UK sellers carry it.

Promos/Outlet Notes: The UK site currently takes 10% off the Monsoon waterproofs (the jacket is £71.99 on sale, the trousers £53.99). In the US, older styles such as the Crosswind jacket are marked down (from $159.99 to $99.99), and there's a military discount. UK delivery is free over £20 to the mainland.

Verdict: 7.6/10

The UK Monsoon set is one of the cheapest fully seam-sealed waterproofs from a golf brand, with VAT included and nothing to pay on delivery. The catch: the better Stratus and Cirque II tiers carry US prices you can't pay from here.

Sun Mountain Golf Clothing Fit & Sizing (Usability)

Sun Mountain cuts its clothing in US sizes, and that matters most. The UK retailer labels every size twice (EU Large / USA Medium, for example) and warns that if you usually take a UK large, a US medium is likely to fit better.

The cut itself is relaxed rather than slim. Breaking Eighty found the Cirque jacket fitted well without being overly tailored or boxy, and roomier than Galvin Green's athletic European cut.

Notes:

  • Polos: The Silvertip is a moisture-wicking, quick-drying stretch polo with a three-button placket.
  • Midlayers: Quarter-zips, hoodies and vests are US-only, in men's S–3XL and women's XS–2XL.
  • Trousers: The Monsoon trousers have an elastic waist with a drawstring, deep lower-leg zips for pulling them on over shoes, and can be taken up two inches.
  • Outerwear: The Monsoon jacket has a partly elasticated waist and elastic cuffs; the Cirque II adds a cinch hem and adjustable cuffs.
  • Heat/Humidity: The Cirque II's 30K breathability suits warm, wet rounds; the Aerify polo uses a "cool-touch" weave.
  • Size Charts: Every UK product page links a size chart; the double EU/USA labelling is the most useful guide.

Accessibility/Range:

  • UK waterproofs come in US medium to 2XL only (EU Large to XXXL), with no small. UK polos run US small to 3XL.
  • In the US, men's styles run S–3XL and women's XS–2XL.
  • No women's clothing on the UK site. The US has a full women's line, including Tour Series+ rainwear, now sold only in women's cuts.

Verdict: 7.0/10

A comfortable, layer-friendly American cut, but US sizing will catch out British buyers who skip the warning. Size down one and check the chart.

Sun Mountain Golf Clothing Core Product Categories

Rainwear (Jackets & Trousers)

This is why you'd buy Sun Mountain clothing. The ladder starts with the packable Monsoon (15K-rated membrane, fully seam-sealed, $99.99 in the US or £79.99 in the UK). Above it sit the 2.5-layer Stratus ($179.99) and the three-layer Cirque II ($329.99), rated 20K waterproof and 30K breathable. A new Monsoon Hooded Jacket ($109.99) arrived in late September. The men's Tour Series+ has gone; it survives in women's sizes.

Verdict: 8.2/10

Waterproof Pullovers

The cleverest category: short-sleeve rain tops for showery rounds. The UK gets the Monsoon short-sleeve pullover at £77.99, fully seam-sealed with a zip-through collar and packable into its own pocket. Two of its three colours were sold out on 1 October. The US adds Stratus ($159.99) and Cirque ($279.99) versions.

Verdict: 7.6/10

Midlayers & Vests

A deep, US-only range of wind and warmth layers: the Weatherflex, Headwind and Crosswind II jackets and vests, and the down-insulated Knockdown, from $129.99 to $219.99. Men's quarter-zips run $79.99–$149.99 and hoodies $49.99–$149.99. The autumn 2026 drop added a DWR-treated Peak jacket ($175) and vest ($155) for wind and light rain. None of it is sold in the UK.

Verdict: 7.3/10

Polos

The weakest link, though spring 2026 brought three new US polos: the Aerify ($84.99, an 83% nylon, 17% elastane weave), the Elevate Stretch ($89.99) and the Lux Heather ($94.99). UK buyers get only the older Silvertip at £34.99, a stretch polo in six colours. Fine for the money, but not why you'd buy Sun Mountain.

Verdict: 6.8/10

Hats & Accessories

Nine hats at $40–$45 on the US store, including a Sun Mountain x Marucci cap. The UK site's hats page is currently empty, so British buyers get umbrellas instead, such as the 62-inch Dual Canopy at £34.50.

Verdict: 6.5/10

Sun Mountain Golf Clothing Materials & Tech (Construction, Sustainability)

Sun Mountain's rainwear borrows from decades of waterproof H2NO bag-making, and the specs are clearly tiered. What's missing is any transparency about where or how the clothes are made.

Backend (manufacturing & standards):

  • Founded in 1981 by Rick Reimers and headquartered in Missoula, Montana. Solace Capital Partners has owned the company since March 2022.
  • Golf bags are assembled in Missoula, but the clothing's country of manufacture isn't stated on any product page.
  • No sustainability, recycled-content or water-repellent chemistry claims on any apparel page. The US Monsoon jacket page carries a California Prop 65 warning.

Application (on-garment features):

  • Monsoon: 15K-rated waterproof membrane, mechanical stretch, fully seam-sealed with a DWR finish, and packs into its own pocket.
  • Stratus: 2.5-layer membrane, fully seam-sealed, waterproof zips and a shock-cord hem.
  • Cirque II: Three-layer fabric rated 20K/30K, fully seam-sealed, waterproof zips, rain channels at the hand pockets and reflective logos.
  • Women's Tour Series+: 20,000mm+ waterproofing, 30,000 breathability, four-way stretch and 37.5 Technology.
  • Peak: DWR-treated woven polyester for wind and light rain. Useful, but not a waterproof.

Verdict: 7.8/10

Genuinely good, well-labelled waterproofing. Silence on manufacturing and sustainability holds the score back, where rivals like Galvin Green point to bluesign-approved fabrics.

Sun Mountain Golf Clothing Customer Support

Support depends on where you buy: a solid US operation, or an independent UK retailer with standard rather than generous policies.

Channels & Hours

  • US: phone 1-800-227-9224, Monday to Friday, 7am–4pm Mountain Time, plus live chat and customercare@sunmountain.com.
  • UK: sunmountaingolf.co.uk is run by RSMG Limited, which calls itself a fully independent retailer. Phone 01753 293294 or email sales@rsmg.uk; no hours are published.
  • Sun Mountain's official UK distributor, Brand Fusion International in Leatherhead, supplies golf shops.

Policies

  • UK: 30 days from receipt to return unused goods with packaging and labels, for a refund or an exchange. You pay the return postage, and faulty goods reported within 30 days are collected.
  • Sun Mountain's warranty gives rainwear a two-year waterproof guarantee and covers outerwear zips, hems and seams for one year. The UK retailer quotes a 12-month manufacturer's warranty, so keep your receipt and ask which applies.
  • US: returns within 35 days of shipping with a prepaid label, then store credit only up to 60 days.

Self-Serve

  • UK delivery is free over £20 to the mainland and takes up to seven working days; express is usually next working day.
  • UK prices include VAT and orders come from a UK retailer, so there are no import charges.
  • sunmountain.com ships only to the US and Canada.

Verdict: 6.8/10

The two-year waterproof guarantee is a real strength. But UK buyers pay their own return postage, get differently worded warranties on each side of the Atlantic, and can't buy direct.

What Are Sun Mountain's Review Ratings from Review Sites?

(As of October 2026)

  • Trustpilot: The UK site's claimed profile scores 3.0/5 from 52 reviews, with only five in the last 12 months (48% five-star, 27% one-star). Most recent reviews are about bags and trolley parts, several from US buyers, so it says little about the clothing.
  • Editorial: Breaking Eighty headlined its review "Sun Mountain May Have the Best Golf Rain Gear" and scored the Cirque line 9.2/10 after three years of use. It put the set one step below top-end Galvin Green at under half the price, though it tested the original Cirque, not the Cirque II.
  • On-Site: The Monsoon jacket averages 4.64/5 from 25 reviews on sunmountain.com. The Cirque II jacket has no reviews yet.
  • Credibility & Reach: Ryggs Johnston, from Libby, Montana, and winner of the 2024 ISPS Handa Australian Open, signed as an ambassador in June 2026 to use its travel bags and apparel. Joel Dahmen fronted the brand's "Golf State of Mind" film series this autumn. Instagram sits at around 45K followers.

Synthesis:

The people who test Sun Mountain's rainwear rate it highly, especially for the price. The weak Trustpilot score is mostly about bag and trolley parts. For British golfers, the problem is access, not quality.

Is Sun Mountain a Good Golf Brand?

Yes, for rainwear, if the piece you want is sold here. The Monsoon jacket and trousers are honest, fully seam-sealed waterproofs at £79.99 and £59.99, and the Cirque line reviews brilliantly. But the UK gets four garments in US sizes, while the best of the range stays in America. If you want everyday golf clothing from a UK brand with free UK delivery, Three Putt's golf tees and heavyweight hoodies cover the dry days. For more wet-weather options, see our guide to the best waterproof golf clothing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sun Mountain

Who owns Sun Mountain?

Sun Mountain Sports was founded in 1981 by Rick Reimers and is based in Missoula, Montana. Private equity firm Solace Capital Partners bought the company from Reimers in March 2022, and long-time president Ed Kowachek became chief executive. The company kept its management team and its Missoula headquarters after the sale.

Does Sun Mountain make golf clothing, or just bags?

Both. Bags, trolleys and travel covers are the core business, but the US store lists more than 80 men's and women's clothing styles: rainwear, wind jackets, vests, quarter-zips, hoodies, polos and hats. Rainwear is the standout. The UK range is far smaller: just the Monsoon waterproofs and the Silvertip polo.

Where is Sun Mountain clothing made?

Sun Mountain doesn't say. Its golf bags are assembled at its headquarters in Missoula, Montana, but its clothing product pages don't state a country of manufacture, and the brand makes no "made in USA" claim for apparel. The US Monsoon jacket page also carries a California Prop 65 chemicals warning.

Can you buy Sun Mountain clothing in the UK?

Yes, but only a little of it. Sun Mountain's own store ships to the US and Canada only. American Golf, Scottsdale Golf, Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline stock its bags and trolleys, but we couldn't find its clothing at any of them. Independent golf shop Pin High Golf lists the Monsoon jacket and trousers, and the independent sunmountaingolf.co.uk sells the Monsoon waterproofs and Silvertip polo in pounds, with free mainland delivery over £20.

How does Sun Mountain sizing run?

In US sizes, which run larger than UK sizes. The UK retailer labels each size as EU and USA (EU Large is USA Medium) and advises that a UK large will usually fit a US medium. The cut is relaxed rather than slim, with room for layers. UK waterproofs come in US medium to 2XL, and polos in US small to 3XL.

Is Sun Mountain rain gear any good?

Generally, yes, especially the upper tiers. Breaking Eighty scored the Cirque line 9.2/10 after three years of wet rounds, one step below top-end Galvin Green at under half the price. The UK-available Monsoon is fully seam-sealed with a 15K membrane and averages 4.64/5 from 25 reviews on Sun Mountain's site. It's a light, packable tier rather than a GORE-TEX rival.

What is Sun Mountain's UK returns policy and guarantee?

Through sunmountaingolf.co.uk you have 30 days from receipt to return unused goods, with original packaging and labels, for a refund or an exchange. You pay the return postage, and the parcel is your responsibility until it's signed for, so use a tracked service. Faulty goods reported within 30 days are collected. Sun Mountain's own warranty adds a two-year waterproof guarantee on rainwear, though the UK retailer quotes 12 months.

Do any tour players wear Sun Mountain?

DP World Tour player Ryggs Johnston, who grew up in Libby, Montana, won the 2024 ISPS Handa Australian Open in only his second DP World Tour start. He signed as a Sun Mountain ambassador in June 2026 to use its travel bags and apparel. PGA Tour winner Joel Dahmen also works with the brand, but his partnership centres on tournament and travel bags.
