ProQuip Golf vs Three Putt: Guaranteed Rainwear or Golf Streetwear

Updated on: October 2, 2026 • ~10 min read

Author: Graeme

We test golf apparel the way we play. Hard, social, and honest.

A Scottish-born rainwear specialist with a Ryder Cup record, against a Leeds streetwear label that makes no rainwear at all. Here's which job each one does best.

How We Review Golf Clothing Brands

Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.

Verdict and Quick Pick

ProQuip Golf is a golf rainwear specialist, founded in North Berwick in 1981, selling guaranteed rain jackets from £90 to £180 plus windproofs and basic polos. Three Putt is a Leeds golf streetwear brand selling tees, sweatshirts and hoodies from £23.99, and it makes no rainwear. Buy ProQuip for wet rounds and Three Putt for off-course style.

Best for wet rounds and winter golf: ProQuip Golf. Rain jackets and trousers with a three-year waterproof guarantee, lifetime cover on the stormFORCE PX range, and proper women's and junior rainwear. It also sells the collared polos your club may insist on.

Best for golf style off the course: Three Putt. Heavyweight tees and hoodies with golf graphics, from £23.99 to £51.99, with free UK delivery. It is casual cotton-rich wear for the clubhouse and the drive home, not weatherproof kit.

Brand Overview

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt is a UK golf streetwear brand based in Leeds. It keeps the range tight on purpose: tees, long-sleeve tees, sweatshirts and hoodies, and nothing else.

Every garment comes in six graphic designs: Contours, Happy Place, Tee Time, Reckless Driving, The Scenic Route and Three on the Green. The aim is golf culture you can wear anywhere, rather than a full on-course wardrobe.

That has honest limits. There are no polos, trousers, shorts, outerwear, waterproofs or caps, and no women's-specific line. If your club has a collared-shirt dress code, you'll need a polo from somewhere else.

ProQuip Golf

ProQuip was founded in North Berwick in 1981 and still calls itself a Scottish golf clothing company, though its head office is in Carlisle. It says it develops fabrics for the golf swing rather than adapting hiking or ski clothing.

Its Ryder Cup record is the headline. ProQuip first outfitted Jack Nicklaus's American team in 1983, and says it has supplied weatherwear to 20 Ryder Cup teams since, more than any other clothing maker. Paul McGinley chose it for Europe's 2014 side at Gleneagles.

The range is rain first. Jackets, half-sleeve tops and trousers come in several tiers, from Tempest at £90 to the 2026 stormFORCE PX9 at £180. Around them sit windproofs, mid-layers, Pro-Tech polos, golf trousers, knitwear, and real women's and junior ranges.

Buy it direct or from GolfOnline, which listed 64 ProQuip products in October 2026. American Golf, Scottsdale Golf and Function18 didn't list the brand.

Key Features and Fabrics

Three Putt Golf

  • Tees: 100% cotton, 260gsm, relaxed fit, S–3XL, five colourways per design.
  • Long-sleeve tees: 280gsm, 85% cotton / 15% polyester, loose drop-shoulder fit, S–2XL.
  • Sweatshirts: 400gsm cotton crewneck, regular fit, S–2XL.
  • Hoodies: 430gsm, 56% cotton / 44% polyester, oversized drop-shoulder fit, S–2XL, four colourways per design.

These are heavyweight casual garments, not technical performance wear. Don't expect moisture-wicking, stretch fabric or weather protection.

ProQuip Golf

  • stormFORCE PX: the flagship. The PX9 jacket (£180) uses a four-way stretch fabric exclusive to ProQuip, with "Swing Silent Tech" to cut rustle and side adjustor tabs for a closer fit. PX jackets and trousers carry a lifetime waterproof guarantee.
  • Tempest: the value tier, with a £90 jacket and £70 trousers, both under the three-year waterproof guarantee.
  • Aqualite and ProPac-Lite: soft-feel stretch shells at £100–£120. The packable ProPac-Lite (£120) combines recycled materials, fluorocarbon-free finishes and plant-based waterproof technology.
  • Construction: Hot-Melt seam sealing and precision lamination on every waterproof, says its technology page.
  • Beyond rain: Vortex windproofs (£90–£110), zip-neck mid-layers such as the moisture-wicking Jasper (£59), and Pro-Tech polos (£30–£39).

What ProQuip doesn't give you is a number. In October 2026 its product and technology pages published no millimetre waterproof or breathability ratings. It leans on its guarantees instead.

ProQuip prices are full prices on proquipgolf.net in October 2026. More than half of its own products were reduced in early October 2026, so full price isn't always what you pay.

Price Verdict

The two barely overlap on price because they barely overlap on product. A Three Putt hoodie, sweatshirt and tee together cost less than one PX9 jacket. The nearest crossover is the warm layer: ProQuip's zip-neck mid-layers cost £55–£70, while Three Putt's heavyweight sweatshirts are £34.99–£49.99. For guaranteed rainwear, ProQuip is fair money: the lifetime-backed PX9 costs about half as much as Galvin Green's £359 Arlo. For casual wear, Three Putt is cheaper and delivers free on every order.

Fit and Sizing

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt sizes run S–3XL on tees and S–2XL on everything else. Tees have a relaxed fit, long-sleeves a loose drop shoulder and sweatshirts a regular fit. Hoodies are oversized with a drop shoulder, so size down if you want a closer look.

ProQuip Golf

ProQuip cuts its rainwear to go over golf clothes, so buy your usual size. One size guide covers men, women and juniors, with chest, waist and leg measurements.

  • Men: S–3XL, from a 36–38in chest to 50–52in. Aqualite and Aqualite Pro jackets go up to 4XL, and ProPac-Lite starts at XS.
  • Rain trousers: S–3XL against 30–44in waists. The stormFORCE PX trousers come in five leg lengths, from 27in to 35in, and most other styles offer three or four.
  • Golf trousers and shorts: waist sizes from 30in to 44in. ProQuip says its Pro-Tech Links trousers and Dunes shorts are small at the waist and advises one size up.
  • Women: XS–XXL, mapped to UK 8–20, with 27–31in leg lengths.
  • Juniors: three sizes covering ages 9–14.

Fit Verdict

ProQuip wins on golf-specific sizing: leg lengths, a real women's range, junior sizes and 4XL in some rainwear. Three Putt's cuts are roomier and simpler. On a cold, dry day, a regular-fit Three Putt sweatshirt sits under a ProQuip shell more easily than the oversized hoodie does.

Style and Versatility

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt is golf streetwear: golf graphics on heavyweight fabric, cut in relaxed and oversized shapes. A hoodie works for a casual range session, the pub after a round or a weekend layer. It is not the right shirt for a members' competition at a traditional club, so check your golf dress code first.

ProQuip Golf

ProQuip looks like tour weatherwear: black, navy and grey, tonal panels and small logos. The Pro-Tech polos and Eagle trousers are standard club wear, and the cotton Mistral zip-neck is the piece most likely to leave the golf bag.

Style Verdict

ProQuip is the brand you reach for when the forecast turns, and its polos cover the dress code. Three Putt is what you wear before and after, from the car park to the bar. Few golfers will choose one instead of the other, because they fill different drawers.

Quality, Durability and Sustainability

Three Putt Golf

Three Putt's quality story is weight. Tees are 260gsm cotton, sweatshirts 400gsm and hoodies 430gsm. They are casual garments, so there is no waterproofing, wicking or stretch to judge them on. On sustainability, Three Putt makes no recycled-content or eco claims. Its tees are 100% cotton.

ProQuip Golf

Outside opinion is good. ProQuip held 4.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 326 reviews in October 2026. Today's Golfer rated the stormFORCE PX8 jacket 4.5 out of 5.

The guarantees do the reassuring. Every ProQuip waterproof carries a three-year waterproof guarantee, and stormFORCE PX jackets and trousers carry a lifetime one. That's a strength, not a rarity: Galvin Green also guarantees its waterproof fabric with no time limit, at a higher price.

On sustainability, the ProPac-Lite jacket combines recycled materials, fluorocarbon-free finishes and plant-based waterproof technology. No certifications are named. ProQuip calls itself a British company and says some products are made worldwide, including in Southeast and Eastern Asia.

Quality Verdict

ProQuip wins on weather protection and aftercare, with guarantees from three years to life. Its weak spot is transparency, with no published waterproof ratings. Three Putt wins on heavyweight cotton at a low price, but nothing in its range is built for rain.

Customer Support and Returns

Three Putt Golf

Delivery is free across the UK. Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery. Email support@threeputtgolfclothing.co.uk first, and note that you pay the return postage. Support is by email.

ProQuip Golf

ProQuip's delivery and returns terms are clear, if a little old-fashioned:

  • Delivery: £5 on UK orders up to £50 and free above that, in 1–3 working days. ProQuip doesn't ship to the EU or the US.
  • Returns: a full refund within 30 days for items that are unworn, unwashed, labelled and in their original packaging, with a copy of your invoice. Return postage is at your cost.
  • Exchanges: none as such. You buy the right size, then return the original for a refund.
  • Contact: +44 (0)1228 210551 or info@proquipgolf.net, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.

Support Verdict

ProQuip wins on time and channels: 30 days to return against 14, and a phone line as well as email. Three Putt wins on delivery, which is free on every UK order, where ProQuip charges £5 below £50. Both leave the return postage to you, and ProQuip's buy-again exchanges feel dated.

Our Pick

Buy ProQuip Golf if you play through British autumns and winters and want guaranteed rainwear without paying £300-plus for it. The £180 stormFORCE PX9 is the jacket for the lifetime guarantee, and the £150 stormFORCE PX trousers complete the suit. On a tighter budget, the £90 Tempest jacket still carries three years of cover. Its £30–£39 Pro-Tech polos also solve the dress-code problem.

Buy Three Putt for golf style off the course and on relaxed dry days, with free UK delivery. Heavyweight tees from £23.99 and hoodies under £52 cover the clubhouse and the drive home. A sweatshirt or long-sleeve tee rounds it out, but you'll still need a collared polo from elsewhere if your club requires one.

The two work as a pair more than as rivals: a ProQuip shell when the weather turns, and a Three Putt hoodie once you're back at the car. For more rain options, see our guide to the best waterproof golf clothing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Three Putt vs ProQuip Golf

Is Three Putt a good alternative to ProQuip Golf?

Not for rain. Three Putt sells heavyweight tees, long-sleeves, sweatshirts and hoodies from £23.99 with free UK delivery, and none of them is waterproof or windproof. There are no polos, trousers or outerwear either. It can't replace a ProQuip rain jacket, but it partners one well for the clubhouse and the drive home.

Which is better on the course?

ProQuip, clearly, whenever the weather turns. Its rain jackets and trousers carry at least a three-year waterproof guarantee, and its Pro-Tech polos and Eagle trousers suit clubs with a dress code. Three Putt's cotton tees and hoodies are fine for a relaxed round on a dry day, but they offer no weather protection and no collared option.

Is ProQuip's lifetime guarantee unique?

No, though it's a real strength. Every ProQuip waterproof carries a three-year waterproof guarantee, and stormFORCE PX jackets and trousers, including the £180 PX9, carry a lifetime one. You register garments on ProQuip's guarantee page. Galvin Green also guarantees its waterproof fabric with no time limit, though its Arlo jacket costs £359.

How waterproof is ProQuip clothing?

ProQuip didn't publish millimetre waterproof or breathability ratings on its product or technology pages in October 2026. It describes Hot-Melt sealed seams and precision lamination instead, and backs the result with its guarantees. Today's Golfer gave the stormFORCE PX8 jacket 4.5 out of 5. Three Putt makes no waterproof claims at all.

How do the fits differ?

ProQuip cuts its rainwear to go over golf clothes, so buy your usual size. Men's sizes run S–3XL, with Aqualite jackets to 4XL, and women's run XS–XXL (UK 8–20). Three Putt's cuts are roomier, from relaxed tees to oversized hoodies, in S–3XL for tees and S–2XL for everything else.

Which is better value?

It depends on the job. For rainwear, ProQuip: a £90 Tempest jacket with three years of cover, or the lifetime-backed £180 PX9. For everyday golf style, Three Putt: the whole range sits between £23.99 and £51.99, with free UK delivery. A Three Putt hoodie, sweatshirt and tee together cost less than one PX9.

Are ProQuip and Three Putt sustainable?

ProQuip has more to show. Its ProPac-Lite jacket combines recycled materials, fluorocarbon-free finishes and plant-based waterproof technology, though no third-party certification is named. Its care advice, a 30-degree wash in non-biological powder, also protects water repellency. Three Putt makes no recycled-content or eco claims. Its tees are 100% cotton.

Which is easier to buy and return in the UK?

Three Putt delivers free across the UK on every order. ProQuip charges £5 on orders up to £50 and nothing above that, in 1–3 working days. ProQuip gives you longer to change your mind, 30 days against 14, but both leave return postage to the customer. For a different ProQuip size, you order again and return the original.
