7 Best Cross Sportswear Alternatives in 2026 | Ranked
Updated on: October 1, 2026

Exploring the brands golfers turn to now that Sweden's rain-suit specialist has new owners and a webshop that won't deliver to the UK.

How We Review Golf Clothing Brands
Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.
Top Picks
- Abacus Sportswear: Best overall for award-winning Swedish rain gear
- ProQuip Golf: Best for a lifetime guarantee sold direct in the UK
- Sunderland of Scotland: Best for a lifetime fabric guarantee with free UK returns
- Ping Apparel: Best for higher-rated waterproofs you can try on in UK shops
- Stromberg Golf: Best for a complete rain suit under £170
- Chervò: Best for premium Italian rain gear from a UK-facing web store
- Three Putt Golf: Best for golf streetwear off the course
Why People Look Beyond Cross Sportswear
UK golfers look beyond Cross Sportswear because buying and backing it has got harder. The old operating company was reported bankrupt in November 2025, the brand's own webshop doesn't deliver to the UK, and its three-year rain gear warranty only covers orders from that webshop. The rain suits themselves are still well regarded.
Cross Sportswear was founded in Gothenburg in 1986 by two golfers who wanted rainwear they could actually swing in. The range is built around its own FTX membrane system. The Pro jacket is a two-layer, four-way stretch shell rated 20,000mm, the newer X-Pro is also rated 20,000mm, and the lighter Hurricane 15,000mm. The Edge suit topped MyGolfSpy's rain gear test three years running to 2019, sharing the title in the last of them.
The business behind it changed in autumn 2025. On 17 October the trademark was sold to a subsidiary of Seagull-Eye Group, a family-owned Swedish sports business that also owns Five Seasons and Snoot. Weeks later, the old operating company, Cross Sportswear International AB, was reported bankrupt after two years of falling sales. Swedish trade press reported that the brand lives on, and it now trades as CRSW Atelier AB from Fjärås.
For UK golfers, the catch is access. The webshop delivers to EU countries and a few others, not the UK, and shows a UK visitor prices in Swedish kronor. American Golf, Scottsdale Golf, Function18 and Clubhouse Golf didn't list the brand in October 2026. Dormy's UK store sells the men's rain gear in pounds with VAT and customs included, and Ladies Online Golf carries women's pieces. Bought either way, the three-year warranty doesn't apply.
The seven alternatives below are ranked for UK golfers, by how well each one replaces Cross's rain gear and how easily you can buy and back it here.

Detailed Breakdown by Brand
Abacus Sportswear: Best overall for award-winning Swedish rain gear

Available on: abacussportswear.com · Read our full Abacus Sportswear review
Key Features:
- A family-owned Swedish brand, founded in 1991 by Sven-Olof Karlsson and Ingrid Lindgren Wachtmeister and based near Lund
- Three rated rain tiers: Links at 10,000mm, Bounce at 15,000mm with four-way stretch, and the Pitch 37.5 at 20,000mm with 50,000g breathability
- The Pitch 37.5 was joint Best Overall in MyGolfSpy's 2026 rain gear test, scoring 9.8 alongside the KJUS Pro 3L 3.0
- An official licensee of the 2026 Solheim Cup and the 2027 Ryder Cup
Pros:
- The same Swedish rain-ladder idea as Cross, with a 2026 test win where Cross's last overall MyGolfSpy title came in 2019
- The Pitch's 50,000g breathability is two and a half times the Cross Pro jacket's 20,000g
- Sold in UK shops, with Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline carrying the widest ranges
- PFC-free rain fabrics
Cons:
- The brand's own store delivers only to Sweden and Denmark, so UK buyers go through a retailer, just as with Cross
- The Pitch was £269.99 RRP in October 2026, against £179 for a Cross X-Pro jacket at Dormy
- No stated long-term waterproof guarantee, just a repair-or-replace complaints process
Verdict:
Abacus is the closest like-for-like swap: another Swedish rain specialist, with a newer test win and far higher breathability. It costs about £90 more than a Cross X-Pro through Dormy, and neither brand gives UK buyers a long waterproof guarantee. If you want Swedish rain gear with a recent result behind it, start here.
ProQuip Golf: Best for a lifetime guarantee sold direct in the UK

Available on: proquipgolf.net · Read our full ProQuip Golf review
Key Features:
- Founded in North Berwick in 1981, with its head office now in Carlisle
- Says it has supplied weatherwear to 20 Ryder Cup teams since 1983, more than any other clothing maker
- Hot-melt sealed seams, four-way stretch on the stormFORCE PX series and "Swing Silent Tech" to cut rustle
- Rain jackets, trousers, windproofs and mid-layers, plus women's (XS–XXL) and juniors' ranges
Pros:
- A lifetime waterproof guarantee on stormFORCE PX jackets and trousers, and three years on every other waterproof
- Sold direct in pounds from a UK company, with £5 delivery or free over £50, where Cross's webshop won't deliver here
- A juniors' range, which Cross's webshop doesn't offer
- Rated 4.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 326 reviews in October 2026, against a single review for Cross
Cons:
- The PX9's product page gives no waterproof or breathability rating, where Cross prints 20,000mm on the Pro and X-Pro
- Returns go back at your own cost, and an exchange means buying again
- American Golf, Scottsdale Golf and Function18 didn't list it in October 2026, though GolfOnline does
Verdict:
ProQuip fixes the two things that make Cross awkward for UK golfers: you can buy it direct in pounds, and its top waterproofs are guaranteed for life. The stormFORCE PX9 was £180 at full price in October 2026, about the same as an X-Pro from Dormy. The trade is transparency, because the PX9 publishes no rating to set against Cross's 20,000mm.
Sunderland of Scotland: Best for a lifetime fabric guarantee with free UK returns

Available on: glenmuir.com/sunderland · Read our full Sunderland of Scotland review
Key Features:
- The Sunderland family began tailoring in Glasgow in 1911, and Toby and Ida Sunderland founded the sportswear business in 1966
- Owned by Glenmuir of Lanark since 2020, and sold through Glenmuir's webshop
- Whisperdry, launched in 1998, is a quiet, stretchy waterproof in 100% recycled polyester
- Its history page lists Greg Norman, Nick Faldo and Sandy Lyle among past wearers
Pros:
- A lifetime waterproof guarantee for the fabric, where Cross's three years only cover direct orders UK golfers can't place
- Free UK delivery and free UK returns within 28 days
- Function18, GolfOnline and Clubhouse Golf all stock it
- The Whisperdry Stealth jacket was £180 RRP in October 2026
Cons:
- Rated 8,000mm waterproof and 5,000g/m² breathable, well below the Cross Pro jacket's 20,000mm and 20,000g
- No exchanges, so a wrong size means a refund and a new order
- Outerwear and warm layers only, with polos and shirts left to sister brand Glenmuir
Verdict:
Sunderland is the guarantee purchase. The fabric is covered for life, delivery and returns are free, and the jacket hangs in British shops. Its published ratings are well below Cross's, so it suits ordinary British rain better than all-day storms.
Ping Apparel: Best for higher-rated waterproofs you can try on in UK shops

Available on: pingeurope.com · Read our full Ping Apparel review
Key Features:
- PING is family-owned, founded in 1959 by Karsten and Louise Solheim, and its UK clothing is run by PING Europe in Gainsborough
- The AquaDrive Pro jacket claims 30,000mm waterproofing and 40,000g/m² breathability, and was designed and tested at PING's research centre at Loughborough University
- Full men's, women's (sizes 6–20) and junior ranges, from polos and knitwear to trousers and waterproofs
- Sells Team Europe's 2026 Solheim Cup kit
Pros:
- The AquaDrive Pro's 30,000mm claim beats the Cross Pro jacket's 20,000mm
- Cheaper shells too: the standard AquaDrive jacket is £150 and the Impervious £185
- Easy to try on, with American Golf, Function18, Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline all stocking it
- A five-year limited warranty on AquaDrive Pro and SensorDry 2.5 waterproofs
Cons:
- The AquaDrive Pro was £300 in October 2026, well above a Cross X-Pro at Dormy
- Only 14 days to return a direct order, posted back at your own cost
- Delivery from pingeurope.com costs £5 unless you spend over £50
Verdict:
Ping is the safe, available answer: higher-rated waterproofs on the rails of shops you already use, with a family range around them. The 14-day return window is short, but if you want to try before you buy, it is the easiest switch here.
Stromberg Golf: Best for a complete rain suit under £170

Available on: americangolf.co.uk · Read our full Stromberg Golf review
Key Features:
- A British golf clothing brand that American Golf dates back to 1977, owned by American Golf since September 2019
- Sold exclusively through American Golf's website and around 80 stores
- The Bandit waterproof jacket is rated 20,000mm waterproof and 10,000g breathable, with fully taped seams, at £99.99
- DP World Tour winner Andy Sullivan signed a two-year deal with the brand in January 2026
Pros:
- Matches the Cross Pro jacket's 20,000mm rating for £99.99, in shops you can walk into
- A Bandit jacket and the £69.99 Bandit trousers make a full rain suit for under £170
- Wide sizing: many men's lines run S–5XL, with ladies' sizes 8–20 and juniors 7–14 years
- Try on, collect and return for free at around 80 American Golf stores
Cons:
- The Bandit's 10,000g breathability is half the Cross Pro jacket's 20,000g, which shows on warm, wet rounds
- One retailer only, so range, stock and prices all depend on American Golf
- Postal returns of online orders are at your own cost
Verdict:
Stromberg puts Cross's headline 20,000mm rating on the British high street for under £100 a jacket. Lower breathability is the trade. It suits golfers who play through cold, wet winters more than muggy summer showers.
Chervò: Best for premium Italian rain gear from a UK-facing web store

Available on: chervo.com · Read our full Chervò review
Key Features:
- An Italian brand that began as a Dolomites ski label in 1982 and moved into golf in the 1990s
- Its own fabric suite, including Aqua-Block waterproofing, Wind-Lock windproofing and Pro-Therm insulation
- Men's, women's and junior lines, with a UK web store priced in pounds
- An official Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup licensee, with a 2027 Ryder Cup capsule launched in August 2026
Pros:
- A UK web store with the whole catalogue in pounds, where Cross's webshop won't take UK orders
- The Masterpiece Aqua-Block jacket is rated over 20,000mm, at £281 in October 2026
- Deep knitwear and women's ranges, with women's waterproof trousers in UK 6–20
- Team Chervò's Jenny Shin won the 2026 Women's Scottish Open
Cons:
- UK orders ship with duties unpaid, so the courier can bill you for customs, unlike Dormy's duty-inclusive Cross prices
- Returns carry a €65 fee, and an exchange means returning and reordering
- The priciest brand here, with jackets at £281–£341 in October 2026, and no 3XL
Verdict:
Chervò is the premium answer: a full Italian wardrobe from a store that ships it all to the UK, with a jacket rated over 20,000mm at the top. Unpaid duties and a €65 return fee make a wrong size expensive. Order a size you know, and expect to pay well above Cross money.
Three Putt Golf: Best for golf streetwear off the course

Available on: threeputtgolfclothing.co.uk · Read our full Cross Sportswear vs Three Putt comparison
Key Features:
- A UK golf streetwear brand based in Leeds, selling six graphic designs across its streetwear: Contours, Happy Place, Tee Time, Reckless Driving, The Scenic Route and Three on the Green
- Tees in 100% cotton at 305gsm, relaxed fit, S–2XL, £24.99–£30.99, in five colourways per design
- Hoodies at 430gsm (56% cotton, 44% polyester), oversized drop-shoulder fit, S–2XL, £45.99–£54.99, in four colourways per design
- Sweatshirts at 400gsm, £37.99–£47.99, and long-sleeve tees at 305gsm, £28.99–£35.99
Pros:
- Sold direct to UK golfers in pounds, with free UK delivery, which Cross's own webshop can't offer
- A hoodie and a tee together cost less than one Cross X-Pro jacket at Dormy
- Heavyweight 400gsm sweatshirts and 430gsm hoodies for the clubhouse and the drive home
Cons:
- No performance polos, trousers or outerwear, so the rest of your golf kit comes from elsewhere
- Cotton streetwear, not technical kit: no wicking, stretch or weather claims
- Returns within 14 days of delivery, emailing support first, with return postage at the customer's cost
Verdict:
Three Putt doesn't replace a Cross rain suit, and it doesn't try to. It covers what you wear on dry days and change into after a wet one, priced in pounds with free UK delivery. Keep a proper waterproof from higher up this list in the bag.

Summary
Cross Sportswear built its name on stretch rain suits with published numbers: 20,000mm on the Pro jacket, a three-year warranty on direct orders and three straight MyGolfSpy wins to 2019. The rain gear still has a good reputation.
What changed is the business around it. The trademark has new Swedish owners, the old operating company was reported bankrupt in November 2025, and the webshop won't deliver to the UK. Dormy's UK store sells the men's rain gear in pounds with duties included, but the warranty doesn't follow it there.
Abacus is the closest swap, with a newer test win and higher breathability at a higher price. ProQuip and Sunderland put lifetime guarantees behind their waterproofs and sell them in pounds. Ping claims a higher rating and hangs in the shops you already use. Stromberg gets you a taped 20,000mm suit for under £170, Chervò sells the premium Italian version, and Three Putt covers the dry days.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cross Sportswear
What happened to Cross Sportswear?
On 17 October 2025 the Cross Sportswear trademark was sold to a subsidiary of Seagull-Eye Group, a family-owned Swedish sports business that also owns Five Seasons and Snoot. Weeks later, in November 2025, the old operating company, Cross Sportswear International AB, was reported bankrupt after two years of falling sales. The brand carried on under its new owner and now trades as CRSW Atelier AB.
Is Cross Sportswear still trading?
Yes. The webshop at cross-sportswear.com is live, run by CRSW Atelier AB from Fjärås in western Sweden, and Swedish trade press reported in November 2025 that the brand lives on. It sells men's and women's rain gear, windwear, polos and chinos, though much of the webshop was out of stock in early October 2026.
Does Cross Sportswear ship to the UK?
No. The brand's webshop delivers to EU countries and a few others, but the UK isn't on its list, and a UK visitor sees prices in Swedish kronor. For the men's range, Dormy's UK store prices Cross in pounds with VAT and customs included, and delivers free over £50. Dormy doesn't deliver to Northern Ireland.
Where can I buy Cross Sportswear in the UK?
Dormy's UK store listed men's Cross rain gear in October 2026, including the X-Pro jacket at £179, X-Pro trousers at £149 and Cloud 2.0 trousers at £92.99. Ladies Online Golf carries women's Cross rain jackets, trousers and gilets. American Golf, Scottsdale Golf, Function18 and Clubhouse Golf didn't list the brand, though Cross names a UK and Ireland agent among its distributors.
How waterproof is Cross Sportswear rain gear?
Cross publishes ratings for its FTX rain gear. The Pro jacket is a two-layer, four-way stretch shell rated 20,000mm with 20,000g/m² breathability and taped seams. The X-Pro is also rated 20,000mm, while the Hurricane jacket and the three-layer Cabot trousers are rated 15,000mm. Owners say the suits run warm in summer.
Is the Cross Sportswear warranty valid in the UK?
Not for most UK buyers. Cross gives a three-year waterproof and windproof warranty on its rain gear, but only to the original purchaser and only for items bought from cross-sportswear.com, which doesn't deliver to the UK. Anything bought from a retailer, including Dormy, goes back to that retailer under its own terms.
Is Cross Sportswear still worth buying?
Yes, if you want stretch rain gear with published ratings and can find your size. Through Dormy, the X-Pro jacket was £179 in October 2026, below the €269 (about £230) the brand's own store charges in the EU. The catch is aftercare: the warranty doesn't cover UK retail purchases, and the new owner has only run the brand since late 2025.
How does Cross Sportswear compare with Galvin Green and KJUS?
All three are known for golf rain gear. Cross topped MyGolfSpy's rain gear test from 2017 to 2019, and KJUS has won or shared the title in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Galvin Green builds on GORE-TEX, is easy to find at UK golf retailers and guarantees the waterproof fabric of its GORE-TEX and Pertex jackets with no time limit.
