7 Best Stromberg Golf Alternatives in 2026 | Ranked

Exploring the brands golfers turn to when they want value golfwear without being tied to one retailer.

How We Review Golf Clothing Brands

Every review on the Three Putt journal is written by Graeme Whiles, the founder of Three Putt Golf Clothing. As a competing brand, we have an obvious conflict of interest. We take this seriously and address it directly in our review methodology, which explains how we assess brands consistently regardless of whether they compete with us.

Top Picks

  1. Ping: Best overall for rated waterproofs and a full family range
  2. Island Green Golf: Best for budget British kit with its own shop
  3. Three Putt Golf: Best for golf streetwear off the course
  4. Stuburt: Best for men's club kit with Major-winning heritage
  5. ProQuip Golf: Best for guaranteed waterproofs
  6. Reflo: Best for recycled performance fabrics
  7. Slazenger Golf: Best for the lowest price per garment

Why People Look Beyond Stromberg Golf

Golfers look beyond Stromberg mainly because it is effectively a one-retailer brand, sold through American Golf and almost nowhere else. The trousers and Bandit waterproof are strong value, but the polos and midlayers are plain, the cheaper Weather Tech jacket is rated only 5,000mm, and postal returns are at your own cost.

Stromberg is American Golf's in-house golf clothing label. Despite the Scandinavian-sounding name, it is a British brand from Brighouse, West Yorkshire, which American Golf bought in September 2019. American Golf was itself bought by Peter Jones's investment group in February 2026. There is no Stromberg shop: stromberg.co.uk is a parked page, so the brand lives on americangolf.co.uk and in around 80 stores.

The product deserves credit. The Weather Tech trousers (£59.99) pair a 5,000mm waterproof membrane with a thermal lining, and average 4.6 out of 5 from more than 500 verified buyer reviews. Today's Golfer named them its best value all-weather trouser in March 2026. The Bandit jacket (£99.99) is rated 20,000mm with fully taped seams, and many men's lines run to 5XL. DP World Tour winner Andy Sullivan signed a two-year deal to wear the brand in January 2026.

The gaps are about choice more than quality. With one retailer, you can't shop around for a better price or a different service. List prices work as a ceiling rather than a guide, and the tops rarely have much personality. The £79.99 Weather Tech jacket suits showers more than all-day rain. Postal returns cost you, and store purchases get only 14 days. American Golf lists no third-party sustainability certifications for the range, and product pages don't say where anything is made.

Detailed Breakdown by Brand

Ping: Best Overall for Rated Waterproofs and a Full Family Range

Available on: pingeurope.com · Read our full Ping review

Key Features:

  • The European clothing range of PING, the family-owned club maker founded in 1959 by Karsten and Louise Solheim, run by PING Europe in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire
  • Built on its Sensor fabric platform (SensorCool, SensorWarm and SensorDry); the £300 AquaDrive Pro jacket claims 30,000mm waterproofing and 40,000 g/m² breathability
  • Men's, women's (sizes 6–20) and junior ranges, with junior Lindum polos and Ramsey mid-layers for ages 7–12
  • PING Europe makes Team Europe's 2026 Solheim Cup kit

Pros:

  • A five-year limited warranty on AquaDrive Pro and SensorDry 2.5 waterproofs, whether bought direct or from an authorised stockist
  • Trousers in four named cuts, 30–44 waists and four leg lengths, one more length than Stromberg offers
  • Sold direct in pounds (£5 delivery, free over £50) and through American Golf, Function18, Clubhouse Golf and GolfOnline, so you can shop around
  • The £45 Lindum polo is 100% recycled polyester with UPF 40+

Cons:

  • Dearer: polos run £45–£65 and waterproof jackets £150–£300, against Stromberg's £29.99–£49.99 men's polos and £99.99 Bandit
  • Only 14 days to return a direct order, posted back at your own cost
  • Sizes stop at 3XL, where many Stromberg lines reach 5XL, and its own product pages carry no customer reviews

Verdict:

Ping fixes Stromberg's biggest structural problem: you can buy it direct or from several retailers, and its waterproofs come with published ratings and a warranty. You pay noticeably more per piece, lose the biggest sizes and get a shorter returns window. For golfers who play through winter and want one brand for the whole family, it's the strongest swap.

Island Green Golf: Best for Budget British Kit with Its Own Shop

Available on: islandgreengolf.co.uk · Read our full Island Green Golf review

Key Features:

  • Budget golf brand established in 2014, designed in-house in Whitefield, Manchester, and owned by distributor Pan World Brands
  • The Performance Polo costs £24.99 in XS–4XL, and Tour Stretch Tapered Trousers £44.99 in three leg lengths
  • A £69.99 Waterproof Stretch Jacket with fully taped seams and a two-year waterproof guarantee
  • Men's and ladies' ranges, with ladies' sizes 8–20 and a 12-piece autumn/winter 2026 collection at £49.95–£69.95

Pros:

  • Its own webshop, with free 30-day returns booked online and dropped at a Post Office
  • Undercuts Stromberg's list prices: £24.99 polos against £29.99 and up, and £44.99 trousers against the £49.99 Hampton
  • Same-day dispatch on weekday orders placed before noon, and GolfOnline stocks around 60 lines

Cons:

  • Delivery is £3.99 unless you spend £70, against American Golf's £50 free-delivery threshold
  • No exchanges, no published phone number, no international shipping and no stores to try things on
  • No waterproof rating published, patchy fabric details, and juniors down to two boys' items on its own site

Verdict:

Island Green offers the same kind of value as Stromberg from a brand that sells to you directly and takes returns for free. You give up a store network, published waterproof ratings and most of a junior range. It's a change of route more than a change of tier.

Three Putt Golf: Best for Golf Streetwear Off the Course

Available on: threeputtgolfclothing.co.uk · Read our full Stromberg vs Three Putt comparison

Key Features:

  • Leeds-based UK golf streetwear brand selling tees, long-sleeve tees, sweatshirts and hoodies
  • Six graphic designs across all four streetwear garments: Contours, Happy Place, Tee Time, Reckless Driving, The Scenic Route and Three on the Green
  • Tees in 305gsm, 100% cotton with a relaxed fit, S–2XL, in five colourways per design
  • Oversized drop-shoulder hoodies at 430gsm (56% cotton, 44% polyester), S–2XL, in four colourways per design

Pros:

  • Tees at £24.99–£30.99 and 400gsm cotton crewneck sweatshirts at £37.99–£47.99, a similar spend to a Stromberg midlayer
  • Free UK delivery, where American Golf charges £2.99 on orders under £50
  • Oversized drop-shoulder 305gsm long-sleeve tees (£28.99–£35.99) and £45.99–£54.99 hoodies for the clubhouse and the drive home

Cons:

  • No performance polos, trousers or outerwear, so it replaces only part of the Stromberg kit you play in
  • Cotton streetwear rather than technical kit, with no moisture-wicking, stretch fabric or weather protection
  • Returns within 14 days of delivery: email support@threeputtgolfclothing.co.uk first, and you pay the return postage

Verdict:

Stromberg dresses you for the round, and a streetwear brand doesn't do that job. Three Putt earns its place off the course, with a golf graphic tee, sweatshirt or hoodie and free UK delivery. Golfers at clubs with a collared-shirt dress code will want a polo rather than a tee, and none of this replaces a rain jacket.

Stuburt: Best for Men's Club Kit with Major-Winning Heritage

Available on: stuburt.com · Read our full Stuburt review

Key Features:

  • Manchester golf brand that traces its name to the shoemakers Stubbs and Burt in 1860, now owned by World Wide Golf Brands Ltd of Whitefield
  • Graeme McDowell won the 2010 US Open and Darren Clarke the 2011 Open in Stuburt shoes, and it dresses Sergio Garcia's Fireballs GC on LIV Golf
  • The £29.99 Urban Performance polo is 92% polyester and 8% spandex, with 4-way stretch and UV50
  • The Zenith waterproof jacket (£99.99) and Shard waterproof trousers (£69.99) are rated 10,000mm, with taped seams

Pros:

  • Full prices close to Stromberg's: polos at £29.99–£49.99 and waterproofs at £69.99–£99.99, bought direct from the brand
  • Free UK delivery over £60, next working day for £5.99, and refunds that include the original delivery charge when the whole order comes back
  • A phone line as well as email, and a Trustpilot score of 4.2 from 669 reviews in October 2026

Cons:

  • Men's clothing only, with no women's or junior clothing, both of which Stromberg covers
  • Sizes stop at 3XL, and its waterproofs are rated 10,000mm, half the Bandit's 20,000mm
  • No exchanges, and you pay the return postage

Verdict:

Stuburt is the closest like-for-like swap: similar prices, a full men's outfit from polo to waterproof trousers, and a brand you can phone. It's men's only, stops at 3XL, and its rainwear is built for showers rather than storms. Buy it if you want to spend Stromberg money with a brand that sells direct.

ProQuip Golf: Best for Guaranteed Waterproofs

Available on: proquipgolf.net · Read our full ProQuip Golf review

Key Features:

  • Golf weatherwear specialist founded in North Berwick in 1981, with its head office now in Carlisle
  • Says it has supplied 20 Ryder Cup teams since dressing Jack Nicklaus's US side in 1983, more than any other clothing maker
  • Hot-melt sealed seams, and a three-year waterproof guarantee on all of its waterproofs
  • A lifetime waterproof guarantee on stormFORCE PX jackets and trousers, including the 2026 PX9 jacket (£180)

Pros:

  • Guaranteed from the entry Tempest jacket (£90) upwards, and the lifetime-backed PX9 costs about half a Galvin Green Arlo (£359)
  • Rated 4.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 326 reviews in October 2026, and 4.5/5 by Today's Golfer for the PX8 jacket
  • Proper women's rainwear in UK 8–20, and juniors' rainwear for ages 9–14
  • Free UK delivery over £50 (£5 below), arriving in 1–3 working days

Cons:

  • No waterproof rating published for any product, where Stromberg prints 20,000mm on the Bandit
  • Return postage is at your cost, and exchanges mean buying again and returning the original
  • A rain-first range with basic polos and trousers, and no listing at American Golf, Scottsdale Golf or Function18

Verdict:

ProQuip is the move if rain is the main reason you buy Stromberg, because a written guarantee says more than a rating on a swing tag. Its better jackets cost more than the Bandit and come without a published mm figure. Pair it with someone else's polos.

Reflo: Best for Recycled Performance Fabrics

Available on: reflo.com · Read our full Reflo review

Key Features:

  • British performancewear brand founded in 2021 by Rory MacFadyen and Peter Philippou, with Harry Kane as an investor and global brand ambassador
  • Recycled polyester as standard, from 42% to 100% depending on the garment; the £49 Bohai polo is 100% recycled
  • Officially licensed by The R&A for Open collections in 2025 and 2026
  • Polos, chinos, trousers, shorts, quarter-zips, hoodies, gilets and light jackets, each labelled Regular or Athletic fit

Pros:

  • Recycled content stated garment by garment, and its tree funding can be checked on a public Ecologi profile
  • Free UK returns and exchanges within 30 days, and same-day dispatch on weekday orders placed before noon
  • An average of 4.72 out of 5 from 377 on-site product reviews in October 2026

Cons:

  • Dearer: polos run £49–£79 and the Sidra chinos are £89, against Stromberg's £49.99 Hampton trousers
  • No women's golf range, and its golf jackets are water-resistant only
  • Names no certifications on its site, and in October 2026 it shipped to UK addresses only, with email support on weekdays

Verdict:

Reflo answers the question Stromberg barely addresses: what the clothes are made from. It costs a good deal more, offers nothing for women and won't keep you dry in a downpour. It suits a golfer who wants technical kit with a credible recycled story.

Slazenger Golf: Best for the Lowest Price per Garment

Available on: sportsdirect.com · slazenger.com · Read our full Slazenger Golf review

Key Features:

  • British sports brand founded in 1881, owned by Frasers Group since 2004 and Wimbledon's official ball since 1902
  • A budget golf range of polos, zip tops, trousers, shorts, water-resistant jackets and caps, plus women's and junior basics
  • Sold mainly through Sports Direct, and on slazenger.com at full RRP
  • Wide sizing: the Check polo runs XS–5XL, and Golf Trousers come in 28–50 waists with 29, 31 and 33in legs

Pros:

  • The cheapest here: in October 2026 Sports Direct sold polos from £9.50 and Golf Trousers at £15, against RRPs of £22.99–£34.99
  • Junior polos, trousers and zip tops at prices that suit a growing child
  • Items bought in a Sports Direct store can go back to a store within 28 days

Cons:

  • No genuinely waterproof jacket: both jackets are listed as water-resistant
  • £4.99 standard delivery with no free threshold, online returns from £4.99 and no exchanges
  • Generic polyester basics with no named fabric technology, and no customer reviews on the listings

Verdict:

Slazenger is the honest answer if price is your only complaint about Stromberg. A polo costs about a third as much, but there's no rain protection, no free delivery and no free returns. Treat it as a beginner's or spare-bag wardrobe.

Quick Comparison Grid

Brand Best For Price Range Sustainability
Stromberg Golf Budget weatherproof trousers and waterproofs via American Golf ££ Low: recycled polyester on some lines, such as the Knebworth polo, with no third-party certifications listed
Ping Rated waterproofs and a full family range £££ Low: a 100% recycled-polyester Lindum polo and partly plant-based insulation, item by item rather than a programme
Island Green Golf Budget British kit with its own shop £ None: no sustainability claims or certifications on its own site
Three Putt Golf Golf streetwear for off the course £–££ No recycled-content or eco claims; tees are 100% cotton
Stuburt Men's club kit with Major-winning heritage ££ Minimal: recycled polyester in one pair of shorts, no certifications
ProQuip Golf Guaranteed waterproofs £££ Low–moderate: evoPel recycled polyester and fluorocarbon-free finishes on ProPac-Lite, no certifications
Reflo Recycled performance fabrics £££ High: 42–100% recycled polyester by garment and tree funding on a public Ecologi profile, though certifications go unnamed
Slazenger Golf The lowest price per garment £ None: no claims or certifications on its golf listings

Summary

Stromberg is better than its low profile suggests. The Weather Tech trousers and the 20,000mm Bandit jacket deliver real performance for under £100. In October 2026, Galvin Green's GORE-TEX jackets listed at £249–£359 on the same American Golf rails.

The catch is the route to buy it. One retailer sets the price and the service, postal returns cost you, and the tops are forgettable. Ping sells direct and through several shops, and covers women and juniors properly. Island Green and Stuburt sell direct at similar money. ProQuip backs its rainwear with written guarantees, Reflo brings recycled fabrics, and Slazenger is simply cheaper.

Three Putt doesn't compete for the round. Its golf tees and heavyweight hoodies are for the clubhouse, with free UK delivery. For more home-grown labels, see our guide to UK golf brands.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stromberg Golf

Is Stromberg golf clothing Swedish?

No. Despite the Scandinavian-sounding name, Stromberg is a British brand from Brighouse, West Yorkshire. A 2016 Yorkshire Live profile says Rodney Taylor launched the family business in 1982, and that it became a golf clothing brand in 2000. American Golf, which bought Stromberg in 2019, dates the brand back to 1977.

Who owns Stromberg Golf?

American Golf bought Stromberg in September 2019 and runs it through its American Golf Brands business. American Golf itself changed hands in February 2026, when Dragons' Den investor Peter Jones and his investment group bought it from private equity firm Endless. Stromberg is now American Golf's in-house clothing label, so the retailer controls the range, the prices and the service.

Where can I buy Stromberg golf clothing?

Through American Golf: its website and around 80 stores across the UK and Ireland. American Golf describes Stromberg as sold exclusively through its own channels, though a few small independents still carry odd lines. There is no Stromberg webshop, and stromberg.co.uk is a parked page. Standard delivery is £2.99, free over £50, and click and collect is free.

How waterproof is Stromberg golf clothing?

It depends on the line. The Bandit jacket (£99.99) and ladies' HydroPro jacket (£69.99) are rated 20,000mm waterproof with 10,000g/m² breathability and fully taped seams. The Weather Tech jacket (£79.99) is rated 5,000mm, so it suits showers more than all-day rain. The Weather Tech trousers (£59.99) pair a 5,000mm membrane with a thermal lining.

Are Stromberg golf trousers any good?

Yes, they're the brand's best product. The Weather Tech Stretch trousers average 4.6 out of 5 from more than 500 verified reviews, and Today's Golfer named them its best value all-weather trouser in March 2026. The £49.99 Hampton is the lighter everyday pair, with a stain-resistant finish and a rubber-lined waistband that keeps your shirt tucked in.

Does Stromberg make women's and junior golf clothing?

Yes. Ladies' sizes run 8–20 across polos, trousers, skorts, gilets and waterproofs, though a few lines stop at 18, and ladies' polos list at £24.99–£34.99. Juniors get sizes for ages 7–14, including polos at £19.99–£24.99, midlayers and Bandit waterproofs. Of the alternatives here, Ping and ProQuip also cover both women and juniors.

What is Stromberg's returns policy?

It follows American Golf's policy. Online orders, including click and collect, can be returned within 30 days of receipt if unused with labels attached, while store purchases get 14 days. Returning in store is free, but posting items back is at your own cost unless they're faulty. Christmas purchases made from 6 October 2026 can be exchanged until 31 January 2027.

What is the best alternative to Stromberg?

For most UK golfers, Ping: it sells direct and through several retailers, rates and guarantees its waterproofs, and dresses women and juniors. For similar money bought direct, look at Stuburt or Island Green. For rain, ProQuip; for recycled fabrics, Reflo; for the lowest price, Slazenger. For golf streetwear off the course, Three Putt.
